There seems to be more people answering the questions that people asking them. Quassnoi answers them so quickly that nobody else has the chance =) Please take no offense!

@Olga You can answer questions also with an already accepted answer. :) Don't worry too much about it!

Hello everybody, can someone please help me with bringing tags into a nice system? In particular, I need to decide about "usage" tag, it is confusing and I would be glad to discuss it with someone else. I think tags is something that matters for everybody, and I don't feel good making decisions alone...
@Olga Can you explain what you mean?
:)
19:49
@Alenanno The usage tag covers questions like "how is word (or phrase) X used?" and "Is Russian used in area A?". I think that these are two different types of questions.
@Olga Oh... In that case, I'd leave the tag in the first question-type. :)
I personally want to separate it into two groups. But I'm not sure if the second group needs any tag at all, since it was said that questions like "Is Russian spoken \ understood in ..."
Also, there is about 150 other tags without wikis and some of them repeat others.
like spelling and orthography
Uhm... Isn't usage good for both question-typeS?
@Olga You can provide wikis, I did. :D
Orthography and Spelling are not the same thing.
Spelling is how you write a word.
Orthography is how you correctly write a word.
More or less.
Usage: it is good for both types, but imagine of someone is using tags to search for a question, for example, in order to check if it has already been asked before
Spelling vs. orthography: you're fun. But seriously, do we need both?
@Olga I wasn't trying to be fun, but thanks... Let's check on other sites.
Ok, on EL&U they're tag-synonyms
On Spanish, they're not...
uhm.
Ah
I feel a bit stupid now. I answered a question on EL&U about this.

A: What's the difference between orthography and spelling?

AlenannoI agree, they sound similar and synonymous, but they have a definite difference. Like Lefteris Gkinis said, orthography comes from the Greek and means "Correct way of writing". It includes also punctuation and spelling. So, rather than a mere activity, it's the part of the Grammar that studie...

In French it just doesn't work, they use the same word for spelling and orthography. In Linguistics, there are two, but they cover very similar topics sometimes, and spelling doesn't have a wiki
Do you mind if we continue later? I have to go now. :/ I'll be back online later though. :)
I think that you are correct, spelling and orthography are different things, but I am not sure whether we need to keep both, the distinction is very light.
Sure, no problem. Enjoy your time of the day.

@Olga Have you considered the position of a moderator by the way? You seem interested in keeping the site clean. :)
21:35
@Alenanno I am thinking about it, but I think there are better candidates.
@Olga You can nominate yourself or other ones.
:)
@Olga Why do you think there are better candidates?
@Alenanno I don't feel ready.
@Olga Well, I could help you! But in the end, it's up to you.
21:50
If I were you, I wouldn't worry that there are no candidates yet. Maybe people just want to sleep on it.
@Olga Probably. But I was serious about you. :D
@Alenanno So, do you think that we need both orthography and spelling?
@Alenanno I promise to think about it.
Actually, I have more pairs of duplicate tags: english-to-russian and translation, saying and expression, terms and terminology, swearing and mat.
But that's about it. So, the end of me correcting every post is near =))
english-to-russian and translation: keep the second
saying and expression: sound like two different things to me...
terms and terminology: first one is useless, all of our questions are about "terms"
swearing and mat: keep swearing
:D
OK.
Would you mind removing the mat tags and writing a wiki for saying?
@Olga Nope! :) I'll do it later.
22:01
And a wiki for swearing would be nice, too =)
I'll try. :D
Cool, thanks!
You do the rest?
22:23
Not today, I've done something already, see my post in here: meta.russian.stackexchange.com/q/38
Oh nice :)
