Right, that privilege requires 1000 reputation. I've taken up your request in the tagging chatroom. There are already forty posts that combine fractional-calculus and ordinary-differential-equations tags, so I'm inclined to accept that a critical mass of material can benefit from your new tag. @hardmath Concerning the tag fractional-differential-equations, I do not have strong opinion either way. (Input from people who know this are would be nice - but that's unlikely to happen.)

Still, I will point out the obvious - there are only five place for tags. After introducing this tag, three spots are very likely to be already taken - by the tags fractional-calculus, fractional-differential-equations and probably ordinary-differential-equstions or calculus.

If some question is only tagged [tag::fractional-calculus] and fractional-differential-equations, that decreases the chance of question to be noticed - since both tags are small and do not have many followers.

Another disadvantage of the new tag is that currently we have one tag in this topic which isn't properly maintained - so this would make sense only if somebody tries to help with properly tagging posts from this area.

At least my impression is that there are many questions about fractional-calculus which do not use this tag - for example, if I search for fractional derivative or fractional calculus, I get plenty of questions without this tag.

Or if I try some questions tagged calculus. (This search has more false positives than the two searches in the previous messages.)

If creation of this tag is considered, do you have a suggestion what the tag-excerpt and the tag-wiki should look like. (If you do have some suggestion, you could include it in your answer - or at least edit them after the tag is created.) — Martin Sleziak 9 secs ago
