Two new tags and were created. I will replace with - I believe this was discussed a few times. I am not sure whether (dimension) is a good name of tag - since it is used in various contexts.
Looking back in this room, there was for example this: chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/3740/2022/3/16

There were some discussions on meta around and (the latter currently exists, but has only a few questions): Can we delete the [basis] tag? and Creation of a Hamel basis tag.

Occasionally, there was a suggestion to have : chat.stackexchange.com/…

Q: Should I post link as a comment or an answer?

insipidintegratorSituation: A question was asked. I tried to find a solution, but got stuck. So I asked for help from MSE and am currently waiting for answers. If I get a suitable answer, then I plan on posting this link on to this question. My question is: Should I post it as an answer (considering that this was...

Q: Should we divide [tag:dimension-theory] into 2 tags, one for topology, and one for algebra?

AndrewsA discussion in chatroom about tag hausdorff-dimension draw attention to tag dimension-theory again. Here's some data about how tag dimension-theory is used questions about topology and algebra. My question: Should we divide dimension-theory into 2, one for topology, and one for algebra? Are...

@XanderHenderson IIRC that's a bit different - does not include dimension of vector spaces.
The tag-excerpt: "Questions about dimension of vector spaces, and rank of linear transformations are better placed under the [linear-algebra] tag."

From my answer to the thread linked above:
> Finally, there are a lot of very elementary questions which show up in the dimension-theory tag which really don't belong. These tend to be of the type "What is the dimension of this subspace of a vector space?" These questions should probably be tagged linear-algebra (and nothing else, probably). I think that they end up getting tagged with dimension-theory because the askers start typing "dimen..." and see a tag which they think is appropriate, without actually reading the tag description.

A: Should we divide [tag:dimension-theory] into 2 tags, one for topology, and one for algebra?

Xander HendersonMy own area of research is fractal geometry. In fractal geometry, there are various notions of dimension (Hausdorff, box, Minkowski, Assouad, packing, complex etc.). Very roughly speaking, the dimension of a set in a metric space describes how the "volume" of a set scales when the set is scaled...

@XanderHenderson So you agree that isn't suitable here, right?

@MartinSleziak Yeah.
is sufficient.

Ok. Since your first message could have been understood exactly in the opposite way.

Oh, sorry. I was just trying to add more context about "dimensions".

As in: Why are you asking this? We already have .
Anyway, even if a separate tag for dimension of vector spaces is created (as suggested, for example, by Daniel Fischer - long time ago), I don't think that would be a good name.

The word "dimension" in mathematics has a lot of meanings in different fields, and these various notions of dimension don't necessarily have a lot in common. A tag seems like a very bad idea---totally useless.

I see that I did not actually link the question where those two tags were created - now both and are removed from that question: math.stackexchange.com/posts/4488480/revisions
TBH, I was surprised that I only found two past occurrences of .

@MartinSleziak Yeah, that surprises me, as well.

We'll see whether the two tags will be used again before the tag-pruning script runs.

Heh.
