Q: Does central tendency (Geometric Mean specifically) always lie in between the two numbers or can it lie outside the interval of the two numbers?

tatanDoes central tendency necessarily have to lie between the two numbers? For eg. I understand $2,4,8$ are in GP with $4$ being the GM of $2,4,8$. But what about $2,-4,8$ if we consider common ratio to be $-2$? $-4$ does not lie between $2,8$.Still is it acceptable? If we say $a,b,c$ are in GP,shou...

In statistics, a central tendency (or measure of central tendency) is a central or typical value for a probability distribution. It may also be called a center or location of the distribution. Colloquially, measures of central tendency are often called averages. The term central tendency dates from the late 1920s. The most common measures of central tendency are the arithmetic mean, the median and the mode. A central tendency can be calculated for either a finite set of values or for a theoretical distribution, such as the normal distribution. Occasionally authors use central tendency to denote...

Q: Spoof lecture for beginning first year undergraduates

LetGBeTheGraphI have been tasked with performing a "spoof" lecture for the new math undergraduates at my school. It is supposed to be a bit intimidating and confusing, but not too bad, and still humourous (at least for those that understand the stuff). I also want everything I say to be true, so no jokes about...

at user8795: AFAICT you are creator of (lecture-notes) tag. For this reason, I wanted to mention that I made a post on meta discussing the tag: What about (lecture-notes) tag?Martin Sleziak 1 min ago

Q: What about (lecture-notes) tag?

Martin SleziakThere are many questions asking for lecture notes on some topic. And about a week ago also the tag lecture-notes has been created. The question is to which extent this tag can be useful and whether it should be kept or removed. (In any case, since the new tag can affect many question, I think it ...

But then the question, where the tag was created, has been deleted: Common roots and AP and GP.

I don't think that we really need a lecture notes tag. — Asaf Karagila 6 hours ago
Asaf is certainly consistent in his default stance towards new tags:
Martin, I haven't fully decided yet what I think about it. It's just my "automatic opinion" to start with a negative bias towards new tags. — Asaf Karagila Oct 15 '16 at 6:22
