@Hohmannfan i suppose you've already seen the news that norway is the happiest place on earth?
20:07
Ping 1: It was a lot of fun. The group of finalists was a fun gang to hang out with, and the competition did not come between us. I think I am going to stay in touch with a few of them. Very enthusiastic people who can randomly start to discuss odd things (I think that describes me as well).
Ping 2: Scandinavian countries tend to end up on such lists. Usually, I never thrust the methodology of such research, but there must be something to it.
@Hohmannfan awesome. it wouldn't surprise me at all if that is the best thing to come out of this.
@Hohmannfan canada does too. it deserves to be taken with a big grain of salt, but i do think it points out some valuable things about how to create stable, happy societies.
(hint: don't leave anyone unprotected, treat everyone fairly, and make sure there are plenty of opportunities for self-improvement.)
Yeah, I guess we agree on that. I think defining number 3 is the most difficult question though.
What are those "opportunities"?
well, easy access to education, and to the kind of medical support long-term disease requires.
prisons that don't treat people like animals...

High incarnation rates are often a bad sign as well.
Wrong word, perhaps, I mean like "lots of people in prison"
incarceration

The game is still running in a background tab. I try trading so I can get more housing to house more kittens who can be woodcutters to earn more wood to create beams to create scaffolds to build observatories to get more room for science for researching chemistry to get oil for calciners to obtain titanium for creating alloys to create tools for my hunters to get more furs to create parchment to create manuscripts for compendiums used for blueprints needed for steamworks to achieve automation.
All other grinder games are ruined :)

there is something fascinating about such games alright. it is part of what could be done at some point with the virtual colonies.

1 hour later…

it would probably be good if you could vet that post and my response.
i spent rather a long time on it, but i'm trying to sharpen my skills in this arena.
(0). Ouch, our spreadsheet is ugly.
1. Collisions: I don't really know any hard numbers
2. Fuel savings The largest part of the fuel saving is about using ion engines instead of hydrogen. The hoisting mechanics are interesting though. Equations coming soon.
3. Oscillations: Dampening is trivial, I am not concerned.
4. Maybe, at least partially. Again depends on the equations from 2.

We need a tether calculator ASAP.
Can you list all the things you want to get calculated?
oh, what a dangerous statement that is... :)
let me get back to you in a bit - today is a holiday, and we are spending couples time :)
23:28
Sure.
I am not going to focus on the UI in any way, we just need the numbers.
tools/teth.html is currently growing.
