@Joonas: Yes, I thought Cerberus was saying, in English, "I bark." whereas his alter-ego, on guard-duty outside Hell, would've spoken Latin.

@tony I see. I took it more as "woof".

There was actually more onomatopoeia in that chapter than just the dog. If I recall correctly there's a sound for sheep baaing and a worlf howling.

@Adam A worlf sounds scary! :P

@JoonasIlmavirta Haha!They r scary!

@Adam Are all the animals introduced in the same section of the book?
I wonder how it compares to the classical animal sounds we have listed on our site.

@JoonasIlmavirta Those that i mentioned are, but there could be more elsewhere in the book.

I have yet to see a copy of LLPSI myself, but I grow ever more curious as people keep bringing it up here.
I did see this in the grocery store and I misread it for LLPSI but decided that it's something else instead...

@Adam: "If you want a friend in Washington, buy a dog."

@tony I'd say that doesn't need to be limited to Washington.
@JoonasIlmavirta Looks much sweeter and more difficult to chew than LLPSI, but I'm not sure how you chew an eBook.

@Adam It's a popsicle, so chewing is indeed ill-advised.
Although far better an idea than chewing an electronic reader.

@Adam: Absolutely. I've heard it said of London. Capital cities can be cold, unfriendly places. An exception is Rome. It has a small-town feel; people are friendly and don't mind amateurish attempts at Italian.

@tony I find that to be true of Italians in general. They seem friendly and helpful when someone tries a bit of Italian. My experience of the French is way worse.

@JoonasIlmavirta Well, the new answer to the "Brute" question certainly diverges from the existing answers about the vocative of filius and also about the spelling of "vocative" ;-)

@tony I still think about those offers to buy a property in southern Italy or Sicily for $1 (requiring you to put forward a certain amount of money to renovate, though).

@SebastianKoppehel I noticed. :) I just wanted the user to elaborate before they vacate the premises.
It looks like one of the those hit-and-run answers, but with elaboration it might prove to be good. Just rephrasing and giving a new focus is good, if done well.
@Adam È sicuramente una bella opportunità! Se la prendi, credo che tu abbia bisogno di imparare italiano. Ma sarà abbastanza facile.

9:35 PM
@JoonasIlmavirta True, it would be wise!
Villa Adami faciam
er

@Adam Have you learned any yet? At least you seem to have understood.

Villam Adami faciam?

@Adam Yes, although Adam is usually treated as wholly undeclinable in Latin.
It's typical with Hebrew names.

@JoonasIlmavirta I haven't tried to learn any yet, although I've considered it. I wasn't sure if I could properly devote the time to it and Latin at the same time. I had to use... Google Translate ;)
@JoonasIlmavirta Adam the Undeclinable has a certain ring to it.

@Adam It works pretty well with Italian, fortunately.
As does Duolingo.

9:40 PM
@JoonasIlmavirta Interesting - finally a use for me for duolingo.

@Adam None of their courses is without issues, but the Italian one has been useful. If a small daily dose works for you, you should certainly give it a shot.

@JoonasIlmavirta Maybe I will. I wonder what it affect it would have on learning Latin on the same time, if anything.

@Adam There will be some interference, but probably also support. I wouldn't be too afraid of it unless you find yourself confused after trying it out.

10:17 PM
@JoonasIlmavirta I'm considering German as well since I had 6 months of German when I was 12 or 13.
Not quite as helpful for Villa Adam, though.

@Adam It might if you end up conquering all of Europe from your Italian headquarters.

@JoonasIlmavirta Anything is possible.
