Nemo me respondabat. Difficile estne respondam componere?

@Narusan Equidem possim modo partim respondere. Si quis mi hic adest, credo me posse tibi melius adesse.
@Cerberus Woof!
@Cerberus Scisne an Romani canes et lupos inter se similes habuerint?

1:41 PM
@JoonasIlmavirta Nesco, sed suspicor idem opinatos esse tunc ac nunc.
I am guessing by "inter se similes habere" you meant "considered themselves similar"...?
Oh, wait, I misread.
You said Romani, not Romanos.
Mehercle!
Immo, Romani eos dissimiles habebant!
Sed conexos.

Forsitan plus rogare debeo in situ ipso.
Iucundum sit scire, quam similes et quam dissimiles species eas habebant.

Est!
Et colores.

Colores canum antiquorum?
Paene nihil scio de canibus antiquis.
Crediderim Romanos chihuahuas non habuisse...
Rogata canina quasi omnino absunt!

Colores quamvis modi!
Ut adiectivum croceum. Qi color erat?

1:56 PM
@Cerberus Numquam istud verbum sentivi.
Nonne credis quid narrant L&S?

Haha.
Puto croceum et rubrum designare posse.

@Cerberus Colores Latinos male novi. Utile sit plus legere, aut in situ nostro aut alibi.
Praesertim usui sint exempla. Videre malim, quaenam res rubrae sint quaeque glaucae.

2:13 PM
@JoonasIlmavirta *Latinos?
@JoonasIlmavirta Bene, scientia empirica in litteris est observare locos!

@Cerberus Ita! Passive scribere coepi, active finivi.

Etiam professor meus in universitate persaepe casibus vitiosis utebatur utcumque Latine loqueretur, quamvis doctissimus esset.
Haud dubio quin ego persaepissime errem.
Praecipue in rebus mihi bene cognitis.

Exemplis careo.

2:26 PM
Idem sentio.

@mjo @Qrtn Salvete! Hello there!
@Cerberus Esne tu canis aut lupus?

Canis!

Prima causa, qua de canibus et lupis rogabam, erat me voluisse te lupum appellare.
Sed sic non faciam si canem te habes. Et nise memoria mea me fallit.

Nemo te prohibeat ne metaphoris utaris!

4 hours later…
6:16 PM
@Cerberus Jack Vance is interesting. He seems to be underrated and relatively unknown.
@JoonasIlmavirta That's adorable! Recently I saw a man with three pomeranians all wearing sunglasses. That is, the dogs were wearing sunglasses! They made everyone's head turn along the way.

@ktm5124 That's a good way to attract positive attention!
Now I imagine Cerberus wearing three pairs of sunglasses...

Lol.
To protect him from the UV rays in Hades.
There's more of those in Hades than up here on earth, you know?

6:31 PM
Because of the fires?

Yeah, all those fires.

I'm not sure if the Greco-Roman underworld had the heat the Christian one does.

Hm... might make a good question.
"What are some descriptions of Hades from Latin sources?"

It would indeed! I never thought of that.

I guess a big one would be Virgil in the Aeneid. He depicts Aeneas visiting the underworld.

6:32 PM
Or perhaps you could ask for the most detailed description or a description of a specific aspect. It could be a little broad otherwise.

Hercules also visited the underworld. That's when he stole Hades' dog and brought him to our chat room.
@JoonasIlmavirta Yeah, that might be better.

@ktm5124 I'm not sure if that's originally in Greek or Latin.
But there's a good chance that Ovid or someone has told that story in Latin as well, and Greek wouldn't be off-topic either.
@AdamHaun @Gazouu Hello there!

Wow. It's a full house in here.
What's the occasion? Is it a festival?

@ktm5124 No idea, but I'm usually oblivious to all kinds of festivals.
@Dent7777 Hi!
@ktm5124 You're not far from a Socratic badge. :)

6:49 PM
Ah, we lost two visitors.
Whoa, am I a room-owner here?
When I click on someone's avatar (not yours or another mod's, but for instance Dent7777) it gives me the option to add him as room-owner.

@ktm5124 You are!

@JoonasIlmavirta Oh I am? Yay!

I faintly recall adding you at some point, but I forget.

Is that the equivalent to being a chat moderator?
Or is it one step below?

No, moderators have some extra tools (which mostly collect dust).

6:52 PM
I see.

Being a moderator on one site makes me a moderator in all chats network-wide. If someone flags something in a SE chat, I see it.
Which is mostly silly.

Yeah, too many moderators.
Too many cooks spoil the broth.
It also floods you with too much information. It's not your responsibility to moderate e.g. ELU.

@ktm5124 I get surprisingly few flags. Maybe there's a delay before it goes to all mods.
But I mostly ignore them completely. I couldn't even judge most cases for not knowing the context.

7:13 PM
@JoonasIlmavirta Hello, just visiting. My latin is extremely spotty, been too many years since primary school.

@ktm5124 How is the Hades description question coming along? I have an upvote waiting.
@Dent7777 Filling in those spots (or between the spots?) is what the site is for. :)

@JoonasIlmavirta Unlikely, I'm abysmal at memorization, translation, and grammar. Love Roman history, mythology, archaeology tho. I was linked here from latin.stackexchange.com/questions/6843/… and thus from the Hot Network Questions and thought I'd check it out.

@Dent7777 I see! It seems that question hit the HNQ list.

@JoonasIlmavirta Haven't started it yet!

@ktm5124 But you've already thought of thinking of planning to start, so it's almost done...

7:20 PM
@JoonasIlmavirta Indeed. I have thought of thinking of planning to start. The rest is automatic.
Hey Google, write me a question on Latin.SE.
(Does anyone get that joke?)

@ktm5124 If it does as good job as its translator with Latin, you're doomed. ;)
@ktm5124 I assume you refer to one of those voice controlled things.

@JoonasIlmavirta Yeah, like Google Home or the Google Pixel.

@ktm5124 I've seen one of those in use, but it didn't look like it would help my life much.
If there's one that actually understands Latin or Finnish, I might reconsider.
@ktm5124 Hmm... I wonder if some find it awkward to give voice commands and would prefer to message the thing.
@ktm5124 I just wrote up a question for tomorrow. I don't think I want to build a longer queue now...

@JoonasIlmavirta I just asked!

@ktm5124 And I just voted!
@ktm5124 That's not the first question today to start with "I chatted with Joonas and we ended up with this question".

1 hour later…
8:34 PM
@JoonasIlmavirta You're an inspiration!

@ktm5124 Should I put that in my CV?
I tried the mythology site today. We'll see if I have any luck...

8:59 PM
@JoonasIlmavirta It might inspire more questions! From those reviewing your CV.

@ktm5124 I assume that would require that the CV itself is somehow inspirational, not just listing "an inspiration" under "titles and honors" or what have you. :)
