@C.M.Weimer Or a future participle, just as in Greek?
I would use a supine or a gerundive in Latin.
I'm afraid the Google Books link won't display for me.

12:52 AM
@Cerberus A boo. Yeah, a supine or gerundive both work, too.

I think we have 4 legal constructions!

4 hours later…
5:01 AM
@Cerberus How many of them are metrically legal?
@C.M.Weimer Oh yes, abeo ut cenem would have been much better than abeo cenans.
Improvised hexameter is rarely great.
What if we practiced with a hexameter-only chat every once in a while?

5:27 AM
@Cerberus Do post that answer! It's a good one.
I just added mine. I'm not sure how good it is, but I wanted to advocate a different point of view.
@C.M.Weimer I find it amusing that someone puts more effort into analyzing my structure than I put into composing it. (Not that I would be immune to reading more into things than was meant.) I learned something new about the present participle, though, so I'm happy.

5:44 AM
If we are excluding questions about NT Greek, does that mean we can ask questions about the Septuagint?

@ktm5124 Judging by the spirit of the decision, I'd say no. Judging by the exact wording of the decision, I'd say yes. In conclusion, I'm confused.

Hehe.
That's how my friend feels about conservative Judaism.

14 hours later…
8:13 PM
@C.M.Weimer I see you are getting up to speed with asking questions. Very good!
@ktm5124 When will we see fundamentalists who insist to interpret Latin SE meta literally?

8:30 PM
I have yet to see the benefits of autocorrect myself, but this is pretty convincing.

@JoonasIlmavirta Heh, that's awesome

@JoonasIlmavirta Just trying to give back.
And in fact that last question gave me a surprise, as I did not consider the Greek adverb as a possibility.
Also, you mods encourage people in the En Marche question to submit their comments as questions! I got Palizsche to do so, but @Cerberus, Hugh, and now Alex B. all have comments still, as do a couple others.
Figured it would be a timely question that could generate interest across SE.

@C.M.Weimer I agree. It is very good HNQ material. But it requires that people actually post their answers.
The number of answers is hugely important in the HNQ formula. (I recently advocated changing this, but I'm not sure if anything will happen.)
I could not resist a macron pun in my answer.

8:48 PM
Good luck with the exhortation. I'll return later.

2 hours later…
10:59 PM
@C.M.Weimer Finally done!

@Cerberus +1.
Now if Hugh and Alex B. post their comments as answers, the question will be good. I hope people will see my comment.

Mercy.
We could CW Alex's answer tomorrow?
I find Hugh's less convincing.

11:17 PM
@Cerberus I would prefer to see the answer posted and let the community judge.

Sure.
But what if he won't do it?

@Cerberus We can let him know that it's going to appear as an answer anyway to further incentivize posting it.
@Cerberus I don't see a reason to treat those two differently.

@JoonasIlmavirta That might rather do the opposite...

@Cerberus I honestly don't know which way it works.

I know how lazy I am...

11:20 PM
Some might think that they'd rather post their own thoughts themselves in a form that satisfies them.
But laziness is a strong motivation to the contrary.

That sounds like a paradox?

I don't think AlexB is the type to care about either points or spending the effort to do it right if someone else would take a stab at it. A couple times a request for further clarification in one of his posts went unanswered, but at least the info got out. He does it on his own terms.
That said, I don't think CW is the way to go.
Let others who want to take a stab at it, imo.

11:38 PM
@C.M.Weimer I'm a bit like that, too.
