@JoelDerfner Quando est hoc "serius hodie" tuum? Non est festinandum, se ne obliviscendum quidem.
Dixisti enim te in metasitu quaestionem facturum de materiis variis in situm addendis.

Now that we have the ad on Christianity we should figure out a good one for ELU. An edgy line might be "All the best words come from Latin–learn more about it at Latin.SE". Not sure how that would play.

Q: Is it ok to ask a big list question for all words corresponding to an English word?

Joonas IlmavirtaIn a comments to a recent question on various ways to kill in Latin, the OP suggested this idea: Every answer should contain one and only one Latin word translating the English verb "to kill" and explain what it means in detail and how it differs from other options. This kind of question could po...

@Nathaniel I think a more humble ad is more attractive. To me it is, anyway.

@JoonasIlmavirta "Serius hodie" vertere in serius hodie videtur, quædam difficultas interveniente. Sed hoc hodie illo verius confido!

@JoonasIlmavirta I'll keep thinking :)

@Nathaniel I hope I didn't come across as too aggressive in the list question discussion at meta. I'm happy to agree to disagree on some things and leave things for a wider community to decide. I just want to learn how to go about this thing.
I have high hopes for the good sides of list questions based on prior experience on other SE sites, but I really don't know if we should really have them, at this point anyway. Allowing some list questions would make it quite arbitrary what "too broad" means. And not all list questions work well.
@JoonasIlmavirta Not at all. It's a tough question. I'm used to stricter standards, but I'm not sure yet if we need them here.

@Nathaniel That was an interesting read. Some of those issues seem unlikely to appear at our site, though.
In any case, we should mainly focus on sufficiently narrow, clear, answerable questions. Whether or not we want list-like questions on the side is less relevant than getting a constant stream of usual questions and answers.

Q: Request for most-needed resource questions

Joel DerfnerAs discussed in this question, we seem to have reached a way forward on compiling "big lists of resources for Latin learners" questions. In general we've reached a consensus that that's not what this site is about; at the same time, it seems like a good idea to have a few such questions for peopl...

@JoelDerfner Thanks for getting the resource thing started! I will wait for a while before I upvote any answers so that I know the options.

@JoonasIlmavirta I think the issue (or at least an issue) with the question in question is that the list isn't just in the answers, it's in the question, too. If the question were something like, "What are the Latin words for 'kill' and what nuances distinguish them—ne word per answer, please?" then it would be easier to think about as a list question. (Note that I am issuing no value judgment on such a question—just saying that it would be less fuzzy to discuss.)
