8:34 PM
@GraceNote Thanks Grace.

Let the 75th hung....err. 1th full-site elections begin!

@Hohmannfan That may end up being a decent analogy.

8:57 PM
@James who's our Trump? :)

Two people have been nominated already. Both of them long time, high rep members. @TimB and @Samuel

for the questions to be asked to the candidates, I think some important points on WB, is probably how the scope of the questions is handled. Like broad, and plot/single characters. I don't know if that would make a good question to ask the views of the candidates on that. Or should be expect the new mods, somehow to abide to the previous agreements?

@bilbo_pingouin I could try and channel him, I think it would be funny to get banned while trying to become a moderator.

@Hohmannfan 3 candidates... JDugloz joined in. But The Anathema who nominated themselves earlier came out of it.

@bilbo_pingouin I think that is probably the single most important question around here.

9:02 PM
@James ok adding it to the list of potential questions

@bilbo_pingouin It is still showing me only 2 candidates after refreshing. But they warned us about slow updates

If there's a question you think should be asked of candidates, please do add it to the meta post. You can always refine them in light of feedback.

Done. Well I'm not used to be active in a moderator election...

Is it a coincidence that the Iowa Caucus is happening today and we're starting the election process here?

Seasoned Advice also started an election today. Clearly this calls for WB questions about alien cuisines. :-)

9:08 PM
4 candidates: ArtOfCode joined

Wow, this is ramping up quickly!
Nice to see!

@MonicaCellio we could make a challenge about cuisine... good idea ;)

What I am most interested in about the candidates' views are scope. Currently, a lot of questions here are closed as [Too broad] . The value of most of them are questionable, but I am fine with giving brief overview answers. What do the candidates think about the broadness scope?

in need of another 3/40 candidate ;)

A: 2016 Moderator Election Q&A - Question Collection

bilbo_pingouinOne of the main difficulty for moderators (as well as high-rep users) is to consistently respect the scope of the site. There have been quite some discussions about it here on meta. But I would like to know the views of the candidates on two critical elements of our scopes, namely idea generati...

9:12 PM
I am mulling over a run...

I hate running, but I might try a dignified walk.

@James it'll be fun if each and every regular chat user would do.

Good point maybe a saunter.

@James I might stand. Why get hot and sweaty if I don't need to? :-)

@MonicaCellio lol, there is a joke in there somewhere but the moderator election chat room is probably not the appropriate venue.

9:15 PM
@James something about saving getting hot and sweaty for other contexts? Yeah, we can leave it there. :-)

@MonicaCellio Yeah those are more the in person flavor of jokes.

Americans run for election; I understand that Brits stand. I've no idea where I picked up the latter convention, but I tend to stay "stand" rather than "run". But not completely consistently, especially in a US election year with lots of associated antics.

The antics are ridiculous this year. I am so glad I don't live in Iowa or New Hampshire.

I don't think I've ever heard that much about Iowa than in the last 3-4 days. And I don't live in the US.

Those poor people get completely blasted with campaign ads via every possible delivery method not to mention door to door visits and more...

9:20 PM
You're doomed. This is going to be going on for the next nine months.

@MonicaCellio If all you watch for news is the daily show its not too bad ;)

PA primaries aren't until May. By the time we vote it doesn't matter any more; game's pretty much over by then. But we still get all the leakage from elsewhere...
@James that could work. :-)

@MonicaCellio and at the end, there's a big baby coming out... ^^"
@James they used to allow watching it on the website, regardless of country... but they changed that...

@bilbo_pingouin Did they really? I used to do that. . .
@MonicaCellio I'll be too young to vote in the primaries, but old enough to vote in the general election, which kinda sucks.

@HDE226868 yep, about 2-3 years ago I'd say... we get a "we're so close and yet so far away" thing...

9:25 PM
Oh, just a general reminder to all: Feel free to comment on the nominations, adding positive or negative remarks. If there are any issues you want to get out in the open, this is a great opportunity to do so.

@bilbo_pingouin I am actually watching the episode from the 27th right now at work.

All these nominations coming up. I feel I need to make my stump speech before all the good meme's are gone!

Wow, six candidates already!

@bowlturner I got in a Sanders reference (if anyone gets it). I'm still waiting to see a Trump parody come up.
I considered promising to build a firewall to keep the outsiders off our southern border, but that seemed a bit much. And not how I wanted my nomination to sound.

I am trying to figure out how I can do a trump parody without getting banned from the site.

9:31 PM
@bowlturner, you start to have some pressure as most of our 20k already went for it, if I'm not wrong :)

@HDE226868 Wow! You are almost as young as me!

@Hohmannfan Really? I had no idea.

@bilbo_pingouin I know. I almost have to do it just to save face! ;)
@HDE226868 yes I saw that and thought it was funny

@James Talk about guns religion immigration the outside world uh, maybe bouncy balls?

@HDE226868 See! Impossible.

9:34 PM
@James Just claim everyone is your best friend, Tim, HDE, Sam and at the end say what rotten people they are because they don't think your the best thing since sliced bread

@HDE226868 You forgot to add "Don't Panic." to your nomination :D

@James Say you're rich.

@Hohmannfan Crap! I'll do that. Thanks.

lol

9:58 PM
room topic changed to 2016 Worldbuilding Moderator Election: Open Discussion for worldbuilding.stackexchange.com/election/1 (no tags)
Let's get that one right, shall we?

the nomination rate has slowed down...

It would. I wouldn't expect that many candidates, honestly.
10-15 on the high end

Well @HDE226868 bets that we will get at least 20...
and he's betting Trump Tower ;)

On the other hand, WB does seem to be a pretty popular site. We might get that many.

Well so far, we have essentially big profiles. Earlier a lower profile went for it, but apparently reconsidered

10:02 PM
@bilbo_pingouin I'm not quite such a big profile.
Used to be, perhaps.
Real life knocked me out of that tournament.

it's all relative, isn't it?

True that.

The Anathema tried, and had 1/40 score, with 1k. I don't know how much I would/will get, but I'm pretty sure it is much lower that yours :)

I can show off my network profile, if I really need a boost. But even that's pretty small compared to some of the candidates we've got already.
I'm what, 17?
Yeah, that's mainly a function of low rep.

The thing is that, for example, Monica or Michael do not have so high rep, but they are good mods either way
nevertheless, it is probably a bonus to have more rep/score...

10:06 PM
Exactly. I don't know what their candidate scores are/would be, but I'd bet on something similar to mine. Less rep, more badges.
It's my first election, too, rather than getting picked by SE - should be interesting at the very least.

well it certainly will be interesting...

Well, first. I ran in one long long ago in a land far away while I was still low-rep and green.

a lot of regulars of the chat are already in or considering

@bilbo_pingouin if you want to check meta.stackexchange.com/questions/253781/…

@Ghanima ohai
That's a useful query
I thought I'd seen one, but I couldn't find it
Monica and Michael are apparently on 14 each; Vincent has 23.

10:15 PM
@Ghanima thanks, useful script. I'm at 12 apparently.

my 33 is pulled down because mods don't tend to get a bunch of the moderation badges (ironically)

@TimB Pssh. It's not like you need many more points :)

@bilbo_pingouin lucky you, I guess I'll spare myself the humiliation with 3

If this was stack overflow you'd need 39/40 to be even worth running, I expect the race here to be a lot more open on that front

@TimB 33 is still pretty reasonable :)

10:18 PM
@ArtOfCode pro-tem mods also might be missing some badges that we might have were we regular users, too. Mods aren't eligible for Deputy/Marshal, and we tend to leave close/reopen/low-quality voting to the community so no review badges there. We'll see how that affects things!

@MonicaCellio Yep, I'm headed for the same fate on OS. Do you get points for Constable, though?
No, apparently. Perhaps I should feature request that.

@ArtOfCode heh. No, but maybe we should. :-)

runs for Meta

in any case, I don't think that score will make everything here. On SO, or the like it is much more critical

Aye. One hopes that people look more at the person and their qualifications, rather than a number.
Then again, this is the Internet.

Q: Include Constable in moderation badges for elections

ArtOfCodeIn moderator elections, according to this candidate score query, the Constable badge is not counted as a moderation badge. Constable, being the badge one gets for being a pro-tem moderator for a beta site, would seem to be worth including - after all, the pro-tems for a site have proved they can...

10:23 PM
@MonicaCellio btw: if a Q is flagged for closing by a user and shows up in the close queue, and - lets assume - the flag is justified, so that a mod agrees to close it (w/o 5 votes) why does the closing message show only the mod not the user too?

@ArtOfCode Wow, thanks for saying that after I put a lot of numbers in my nomination. :-)

@HDE226868 Ah, no, I'm saying people shouldn't judge based on one number. Clearly, if you've got lots of them in your nomination, you'd be an excellent mod.
crosses fingers behind back

@ArtOfCode I'm joking. Don't worry. :-)

Joking? What's a joke?
;)

@Ghanima I think the list never includes flaggers, just close-voters. The flag is important to send the question to the review queue, but it might confuse people to see names of people who don't have the rep to vote to close.

10:26 PM
@MonicaCellio but there are cases when the closing message shows three names, e.g. two users + one mod

@Ghanima that's when those users did vote... before the mod

ahh, so the flagger does not show up, but voters do
makes sense, kind of
TY
@HDE226868 first copy editor, worked for me ;)

@Ghanima do you know of cases where that happened and the two users didn't have enough reputation to vote to close?
@Ghanima right.

@MonicaCellio no, no. It's the way you said, I was mistaken

11:31 PM
Hi, all. I've just nominated myself.
