the point is, "Samus spends most of the game blindly following the instructions of a male benchwarmer who doesn't know when to shut up" is a well they've returned to like four times now and it's sucked every time
It's not actually the character that's the problem, it's that Fusion and Other M are both really linear games rather than metroidvanias, which Dread fixes mostly
And Other M, in addition to having the "sit down for five minutes while we explain the plot to you, then go here" issue, also has you unable to use equipment you already have until Adam gives you permission
I guess it's like a semantic point I'm making, that the game is doing those things and using Adam to do them, there's no actual issue with Adam as a character
> there's no actual issue with Adam as a character
I mean, Adam as a character I mostly find forgettable, but yeah, my complaint is more about the structure of the games featuring him, and the related characterization of Samus
The former tends to be very linear with lots of exposition rather than environmental storytelling
The latter casts Samus as a subservient and blindly obedient soldier who needs permission from some rando to perform even the simplest of tasks
neither of those are what I enjoyed about M1/2/3 or Prime
Perhaps it would be better if they quietly let us forget about him then
But I think it could have been good in Other M if they had Samus deliberately disobeying the orders when she was in boss battles or something, and then saying tough shit when anyone tried to yell at her
It does kind of feel like nintendo accidentally made a good character and they're trying to fix their mistake
> "Samus, somehow lost all of her equipment who knows how"
Prime 1/2 and Fusion do actually try to explain that, with varying levels of success (I actually think Fusion comes off the best here), but I think "you have most of the equipment already but you aren't allowed to use it until you reach this plot trigger" is probably the most annoying take on that I've seen even if it is mechanically indistinguishable from "you don't have the equipment until you reach this item pickup trigger".
Like, it turns out that fluff and crunch both matter a great deal and changing the fluff can dramatically change the experience of playing the game (including how fun it is) even if the crunch remains unchanged.
MP2's "Dark Samus lured you into an Ing ambush with the objective of stealing or disabling your gear" works better than MP1's "explosion big, elevator crunchy" but I don't think either of them are good, yeah
My personal headcanon is that between missions Samus donates all the gear she found to various archaeological projects because they're all archaeologically significant Chozo (and/or Luminoth) technology
Yeah, I mean, her armour seems to integrate extremely rapidly with any tech it gets to examine and the entire setting is lousy with hidden weapons caches of varying provenance
@Unionhawk Damnit. For a step of a clue scroll I had to do Mourning's End 1 and 2. Completed them, and the next step required me to have a headband and crozier -.-
In New World different fish and bait for each watertype. That said, it's somewhat hard to tell what water type is which. Obviously a beach is saltwater and a landlocked lake is freshwater, but It's a bit harder to tell when the areas mix.
For example, there's a bay/lake/gulf/river thing near Firs...
