I choose to be cautiously optimistic. I expect Trump to be his usual selfish, egotistical self, but I think that most of what he does will likely be reversible in the long term. And, failing that, SpaceX might help us settle Mars before the world craps out completely.

@StrixVaria I don't think it should have comeback mechanics. I think it would be great if both teams had access to the same weapons and vehicles at the same point in the game. You would still have to play better to recover from being behind, but fighting against people who are ahead and get better weapons and vehicles is just depressing.

@murgatroid99 I wasn't implying that you thought it should. Just pointing out another pitfall that makes competitive balance so difficult.

Slippery slope mechanics are harder to avoid, though.

The advantage you gain by doing well early should be purely strategic. Maybe you have better positioning for engaging in the next battle. Once you start making it numeric too (you do more damage), it makes for a wide variety of problems.

Basically, in my experience from over 700 games, about 90% of the time, the team that pulls ahead in the first 5 minutes wins 10-15 minutes later by a substantial margin

Actually, I think Waypoint counts Firefight games. It's probably more like 600 actual Warzone games

@murgatroid99 That's a pretty common theme in the few AAA shooters I've played in the past few years. In Modern Warfare 2, you got air strikes or whatever sooner. In Titanfall 2, you get your titan sooner.

I don't know that I've seen a single comeback in Titanfall 2 so far, and being in a losing game is pretty unfun.

@StrixVaria you know what's really unfun in Titanfall 2? Having your whole team play super well and somehow still losing

In the worst cases, I've seen Warzone games where the winning team is just bombarding every exit from the losing team's spawn areas, and the losing team can't even take effective potshots

I suppose games like MW2 and Titanfall 2 aren't meant to be competitive, though.

Overwatch and Counterstrike are specifically balanced to try to make them thrive as e-sports. CoD and Titanfall are...not that.

They have different core audiences.

Halo overall is supposed to be competitive, but Warzone is explicitly a casual variant

I would say for games like Titanfall 2/CoD are more about getting to feel occasionally like a huge badass.

As long as it delivers on that feeling with some regularity, people will keep playing and it will draw in new players from that target audience.

They're willing to put up with some losses in between to get back to that high point.

I think the percentage of gamers who value a truly competitive experience is actually pretty low.

So some AAA shooters are willing to sacrifice that segment to cater to the rest.

I would value it if I was actually good

No, I just don't like losing close matches.

I honestly wish I just had time to play competitive regardless of where I place.
