12:00 AM
probably the cooperative elements (from what I'm reading on the killing floor wiki)

FAE
@GnomeSlice Playing co-op with friends. You can tell L4D was heavily, heavily inspired by it.
(KF mod came before L4D)

Oh, interesting.
I didn't know that.

FAE
It is not as easy either.

Dear roommate, please add to your playlist of 3 songs so I don't have to listen to the same 3 all freaking day, kthx

I had fun with L4D the few times I've played it with friends on Xbox 360.

FAE
12:01 AM
They also still regularly do events during summer and Christmas.

Wait, 4.

I'm tempted to get Final Rush but I bet I would have nobody to play with.
Since none of you have it or will have it.

@GnomeSlice and you feel important?
btw @kalina, that is called birdbrain....

@Braiam What? No, I just mean it's obviously a multiplayer focused game and if none of my friends have it then I'll have nobody to play with.

... ohhhhh...

12:05 AM
> WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 4 AM EST SUNDAY
...well yes, I expect winter weather in winter. Thanks, National Weather Service!

@Unionhawk Hey, at they're not like me and listen to the same song a million times in a row.

meh, I have 3 compilations of 10 hours each of my favorite songs...

Okay, apparently this playlist comes from before christmas.

@OrigamiRobot I do that too.

12:21 AM
yawns
@GnomeSlice this doesn't seem to have the appeal of L4D
obviously it's still pretty early in development

12:45 AM
wtf I'm back watching Buzzfeed videos

anihilnineThe summary you are looking for doesn't exist. You would be far better off asking questions in the FAF forums from now on. http://www.faforever.com/forums/

I count like 5 free spam flags there

It's not really spam, since it is the official forums. I was just thinking of editing out the link, though the first post there doesn't even stand as an answer without the link

12:48 AM
True

Oh my gosh this site is AMAZING
Especially after just finishing The Great Game.

1:03 AM
@RedRiderX There are a couple of them, and one Twitter account

@RedRiderX I must be missing something, this site looks like brain damage to me

@kalina I think it's more of the fact that it's supposed to link in with the show.

Q: Is the satellite rush tactic sustainable on classic?

Oblivious SageI picked up Enemy Within during Steam's winter sale, and I just finished a normal playthrough. Enemy Within seems to have added the tactical & strategic depth I felt the base game lacked, so I'm still in the mood for another playthrough, and I figured I'd try classic difficulty. I haven't had mu...

@Wipqozn At this point I'm confident that you will run out of content before I even figure out which box my DS is packed in.

But yes, the design does look terribad.

1:12 AM
@Yuki right, I guess I was missing the link to something else

@kalina That's oddly appropriate in a few ways.

Mythbusters Star Wars Myths episode time
it will be confusing, since I've never seen Star Wars
oh god
jamie hyneman just ruined the story
in like the first line of the show
now I know that darth vader is luke's father, and leia is his sister

Star Wars fans look away now, unless you want to have a heart attack, or something

@Unionhawk Pretty sure all the Star Wars fans already had heart attacks when Disney got Star Wars.

1:21 AM
True, true
Another heart attack then
I'm basically saying everyone who has the right to call themselves a star wars fan is old

If anything, Disney can get the Star Wars franchise to use Jar Jar-like characters properly. They did pretty well with Olaf in Frozen.

He was there for comedy relief moments, but disappeared quickly when the drama/plot stuff rolled around.

@Yuki Frozen was a really good movie, overall

user15026
1:24 AM
@Unionhawk I still need to see it.

@Unionhawk Yeah. Pretty sure it's going to get the Oscar.

@AshleyNunn Yes you do
Rectify this situation.

@AshleyNunn I've been kindasortanotreally pushing you to see it since at least a month ago.

user15026
@Yuki yeah i knowwwww I am the worstest ever ever

user15026
I have no money currently

1:26 AM
@AshleyNunn Well, might be hard to find it in theatres now...

user15026
True

I will accept this excues on the grounds that movies cost a million dollars these days

I mean, it opened in November 2013, right?
Right around Thanksgiving?

user15026
Sorry, cannot brain, been selling tiny owls and other wonderfulness all day have no brains, very tired

It was out still like, a week or so ago here

1:27 AM
@AshleyNunn If you can find a theatre that's still showing it, I will literally mail you $15 to go watch Frozen.
Granted, it wouldn't help since it'll be in US dollars.

user15026
It would be more money than I need then :P

I could send you 10 (British) pounds, but that wouldn't be any better.
@AshleyNunn I don't know how much ticket prices are up there. I just figure $15 would cover admission and maybe a snack.

@Braiam @kalina @KevinvanderVelden beep, you jerks :P

user15026
@Yuki Yeah, it likely would :P

@bra !

1:29 AM
@kalina Hi!

@AshleyNunn <whiny voice>People are being mean to me because I like Disney so much.</whiny voice>

USD $15 is about CAD $16.44

user15026
@Yuki Apparently I can still see it in my city :P

So, probably

user15026
@Yuki hugs, gives cookies

1:31 AM
@Unionhawk USD is worth more than CAD again? It was pretty big news when the CAD was worth more, figured there'd be news when/if they changed places again.

user15026
Its been worth more for a while now

user15026
our supremacy was short lived

Apparently, I don't know

@AshleyNunn Yeah, people like to post pictures of "alternate takes" of Disney films to me. Invariably, these alternate takes involve zombies, undead monsters, and really really dark stuff because these people have no sense of childhood innocence.

@kalina ALL TEH SPOILERS!

user15026
1:33 AM
@Yuki Poke them in the eyes.

FAE
@Yuki I love stuff like that.

@FAE I don't mind it, but I didn't like it in high school when people would send that stuff to me in what I assume was an attempt to break me of my love for Disney.

user15026
....I am seriously considering sleep. SO MANY PEOPLE today.

I don't care about how you feel about Disney. That's your business. Please don't push your cynicism onto me though.

FAE
@Yuki Ah, I see.

user15026
1:36 AM
I like Disney because I don't have to think about adult junk for a while. I can just kinda escape and junk.

FAE
@Yuki I have a complicated relationship with Disney. On one hand, there's a lot of good childhood memories there and such, and of course, good songs. On the other, there can be some pretty crappy messages that they're sending to children in their films, as well as the problems with racism and such (cc @spugsley).

As we're on the topic of drinks, my cucumber lemonade has another big success!
I made some for my parents' poker night and everybody likes it, especially the cucumber flavor.

user15026
1:38 AM
How do you make it?

FAE
@Yuki I have never heard of this

@fae not to mention their business practices.

FAE
It sounds like it would be refreshing though

@AshleyNunn I first boil some water, and then add a bit of sugar (not very much) for a base.

FAE
@RedRiderX That's a whole other conversation entirely.

1:39 AM
Squeeze some fresh lemon juice.

True

And then blend and strain cucumbers.
This last batch used about... lemme check the pitcher.
Last batch used 1.5 liters of water, 1/8 cup of sugar, three lemons, and 2 cucumbers.

user15026
That sounds like it would be pretty tasty

I know 1/8 cup is quite a bit, but the original recipe asked for about four times that much (which was waaaay too sweet for me).

FAE
@Yuki Good lord, that's a lot of sugar.

1:42 AM
It's very refreshing, and would probably taste even better in summer.
@FAE Yeah, my eyes bugged out when I read how much sugar they wanted.

FAE
Also @Yuki, given your Disney fandom, have you watched the documentary Waking Sleeping Beauty?
It's on Dutch Netflix at least, I'm not sure about the American one. It's a documentary about the studio from the 70s to the 90s.

@FAE Hmm... I don't watch a lot of documentaries that aren't nature.

user15026
I suspect they wanted a really strong simple syrup, which would be balanced by using a lot more lemon, generally

I'll give it a look-see.
@AshleyNunn I just wanted a stronger cucumber flavor, which I'll grant sounds a bit oxymoronic.

user15026
@Yuki No, I totally understand :)

FAE
1:44 AM
@Yuki It's really quite interesting. It shows a lot of the struggle they went through business-wise in that period and the lead-up to the success of the 90s films. Lots of background information I never knew.

@FAE Awww... unavailable to stream...
;_;

FAE
Aw. :(

So I saw How To Train Your Dragon again.

FAE
I only just saw that a couple months ago for the first time.
I am sad I did not see it in theatres.

...just realized I'd been listening to Menu music for the last 5 minutes.

1:46 AM
@FAE It was really good. I think the only reason it didn't win the Oscar was because it had the big misfortune of being released in the same year as Toy Story 3.

FAE
@Yuki Y'know, I still have not yet seen Toy Story 2 or 3.

@FAE 3 was a bit weird
2 was a bit meh

I've not seen Toy Story 3 or HTTYD.

FAE
@kalina I heard kind of meh things about 2, yeah, which is why I never prioritized it. I did hear good things about 3 though, which made me want to see 2.

watching 2 isn't required to see 3
they're chronological in terms of when they happen in the toy story universe but 3 kinda stands alone

FAE
1:48 AM
Huh, didn't know that.

Well, I'd say 1 is pretty much required going in to either

I know Sid (from Toy Story the First) makes a cameo.
As a garbageman.

3 makes sense just from watching 1, there isn't an arc between 2 and 3 beyond the characters existing

I have not seen Toy Story 2 and yet 3 made perfect sense.

2 is more a sequel to 1, but 3 is more about the toys in the futurre

FAE
1:54 AM
I had no idea about any of this.
I hadn't seen 2, so I just tried to avoid information about 3.

It came, like 10 years after 2, right?

3 is a moderately well written attempt to revitalise a dead franchise imo

1 and 2 were my childhood

@RavenDreamer yeah

About yeah
stupid internet mixing up the order of my messages
HATE

FAE
1:55 AM
@kalina Meanwhile, Cars, Cars toys everywhere still.

@FAE I only watched the first Cars

1, 2, and 3 seemed to be pretty well timed out. I was about the same age as the boy for every release.

FAE
@kalina Same.

wasn't really my thing

FAE
I just can't believe how much merchandising they've gotten out of it.

1:56 AM
@FAE It's as if Disney/Pixar launched its own Hot Wheels franchise.

it's pretty easy to merchandise cars

FAE
@kalina I imagine it may resonate a bit more with an American audience, given the nostalgia factor and Americana buttons it hits.

there's already a market for toy cars to begin with

I liked the first Cars. Haven't seen any of the others.

FAE
Like, for me, my dad used to be a trucker who actually did drive on the old Route 66, so it was neat to me.

1:57 AM
@OrigamiRobot Good. They brought the comedic relief to the spotlight, a la Jar Jar Binks, from what I've heard from reviews.

FAE
@Yuki Bleh, that sucks

@Yuki I don't hate Jar Jar Binks.

While I'm thinking about it; @Yuki Did you get my ping earlier re: Hunters for Hire?

I acknowledge that he is a useless character, but I don't really have any strong feelings either way.

@OrigamiRobot I don't hate the idea of Jar Jar Binks. Comedic relief is great. The problem is when they keep trying to be comedic relief during the dramatic parts of the film.

1:59 AM
There were supposed to be dramatic parts?

@RavenDreamer Yeah, I don't know about Hunters for Hire rewards, but I'll see if I can find a list.

Also, @#$* carpenter bugs, again...

@OrigamiRobot I dunno, I assumed the war/battle they had at the end counted as a dramatic part.

Q: Is there a hotkey for the crafting window?

Stafford WilliamsOften when I open the Inventory window with Tab, the crafting window is minimized and I have to click the Crafting button to open the window. Is there a keyboard shortcut I can use to open the Crafting window?

That was an action part, but I don't think I'd call it dramatic.

2:02 AM
@OrigamiRobot Uh...
Drama is the specific mode of fiction represented in performance. The term comes from a Greek word meaning "action" (Classical Greek: , drama), which is derived from the verb meaning "to do" or "to act" (Classical Greek: , draō). The enactment of drama in theatre, performed by actors on a stage before an audience, presupposes collaborative modes of production and a collective form of reception. The structure of dramatic texts, unlike other forms of literature, is directly influenced by this collaborative production and collective reception. The early modern tragedy Hamlet (1601) by Sh...

@Sterno floor 27

:13272737 Perhaps he meant suspenseful

I always saw "drama" as anything didn't attempt to elicit laughter or typical "comedic" reactions.

@Yuki There is a difference between action meaning "doing something" and action in an "action movie" sense.

I dunno if I have the right definition in my head.
I should probably go grab a glass of cucumber lemonade before it disappears. I made a whole liter-and-a-half and it's going quick.

2:05 AM
when are serial voting reversed? 0300 UTC?

@Yuki ...is that like lemonade, but made with a cucumber?

25 mins ago, by Yuki
Last batch used 1.5 liters of water, 1/8 cup of sugar, three lemons, and 2 cucumbers.
Basically lemonade with cucumbers.
Technically, cucumber juice, I guess.

You're saying "cucumber", and I was thinking "pickle".
Cucumbers make tangentially more sense.
Quickpoll: Anyone here played Warframe?

@RavenDreamer Once or twice.

I suppose I meant to ask: Any good?

2:08 AM
@RavenDreamer quite a few people in here
I gave it a go and I didn't like it but I only played it briefly

@RavenDreamer Meh? I don't think I played it enough to give a good review of it.

@3ventic and some others play it a lot though
think @3ventic has >100 hours in game

Well, free to play, so I suppose it can't hurt to download it.

Not to mention I played awhile back and things might have changed.

And see formyself.

2:09 AM
@RavenDreamer ... he said before his computer crashed in a great ball of fiery explosions.

@Yuki Luckily, I have 3 ways to reach chat within arms reach.
Oh, well, time to go poke some G-Rank Gobul until it dies.

Gorgeous stuff

Welcome to Arqade, Jamesg, unfortunately this isn't really the right place to ask this as it's primarily opinion based so I have voted to close this. The hardware you've chosen so far seems about on par for a budget machine though. — kalina 22 secs ago
@kalina I love you.

You actually gave him helpful info about his problem anyway.

well that's the right thing to do

@kalina Yes!

no point in just saying "NO, OFF TOPIC, GO AWAY"

Wasn't there a test that GraceNote said people failed all the time, that was a stupidly obvious reject. Like "I changed the code some" obvious

Oh god, the sausage my mom bought are chilli and garlic flavored

@PrivatePansy Oh god what

@AshleyNunn Did you determine if you liked that album I sent you last night?

user15026
@GnomeSlice oooh, trifle! It is like a cake parfait aaaaaaa I am so hungry but so tired

Great signal strength, but has only loaded google's search page once without timing out

Everyone loves parfaits!

@Unionhawk HELP HELP MY MOUTH IS ON FIRE

2:26 AM
iPads and such work fine on wireless though

You never go up to someone and say 'hey let's go get a parfait' and they say 'hey I don't like no parfait'.

@PrivatePansy WELL PUT OUT THE FIRE THEN

user15026
@GnomeSlice Not super my thing. But thanks anyhow :)

@GnomeSlice Have you ever met a person who doesn't like parfaits? Been like "hey you wanna go get parfaits" and they're like "no I don't like parfaits".

@PrivatePansy I'm not sure if you consider this a good thing or a bad thing.

2:27 AM
@Ktash ;]

@GnomeSlice Secret of Kells, apparently.

Goddammit now I have Shrek in my head I hope you're all happy

@Unionhawk Boom! Came in like a Shreking ball!

@AshleyNunn yeah, I totally understand people that prefer this method because there are perks to having a warranty, support, etc

@Unionhawk Yes I am

2:27 AM
@GnomeSlice bvghv n <- literal facedesk

I would always build my own machine though

user15026
@kalina That and I have no idea what I am doing, and don't really need a beefy machine because I don't play a lot of AAA titles or anything that need OMG computing power. I just like being able to walk in, point at a thing, give them money, and go home.

@AshleyNunn another advantage of buying something from a shop, for sure

In other "things from my childhood" news, this is now my background:

building a PC is like adult lego though

Good whatever it is where you are, all

Watching the first season/series of Sherlock, I remember what I missed in the 3rd season/series: the rapid deductions that Sherlock would just rattle off.

2:32 AM
@kalina Those links you posted in the comments of that build-a-pc question are pretty useful

user15026
@Yuki omg yes

@Brant You know @kalina, she just prides herself on being helpful in comments.

@AshleyNunn I haven't seen it yet. Premieres tomorrow night here.

@Brant well, I always think that if a new user posts something that's off topic and we just turn them away without providing them help, the next time they need help they'll go somewhere else
5

@kalina take all of my stars

2:34 AM
@Yuki I do think it gets old fast, though

@PrivatePansy Yeah, but you have an entire year and half between seasons/series for it to stop being old.

The writers don't need to do it over and over again just to establish the fact that Sherlock is brilliant

@PrivatePansy It's the whole point of Sherlock Holmes

@DavidM That.

And anyway I do recall the rapid deductions happening in the first two episodes. Visually in episode one, and as a game in episode two
Episode three is a bit heavier on drama than actual crime solving.

2:40 AM
Has anyone here read the original ACD books? They're entertaining enough to be worth a read.

@DavidM I have the entire short story collection
In one huge volume. Fantastic read.

@PrivatePansy Yeah! I didn't want to over-sell it.

Moffat is a terrible writer and you Brits should stop giving him work.

Read it when I was 12 and unfortunately didn't have a good enough vocabulary to understand all the words, so I should go back and read some of it again

@PrivatePansy That's how I feel about Dostoyevsky.

2:42 AM
@Sterno Moffat is bad when he runs shows he fanboys over.
Sherlock is actually fairly good, in my opinion.

@Yuki It's VERY good.
Made more so by the very short season runs.
But, I also like Elementary.

@Brant :D

And all of my stars, as is the norm

I don't know why everyone keeps wondering what took Sherlock so long to come back, Watson went off to Middle Earth for a while.

2:47 AM
@GnomeSlice So did Sherlock

Oh, right.

I'm so so sorry (Sherlock S3E1 spoiler)

"Oh just the usual . . . Sex, rage, my mother . . ."
I'm watching Hitchcock, and the writer of Psycho told him that's what he and his psychiatrist talk about daily.

@PrivatePansy ♫¿Que pasó? ¿Que pasó, Yolanda?♫

@Yuki I didn't watch the clip because it's a spoiler, but that's a great song.
