@TomWijsman Why would it be? It's 2 floats either way. And with storing the relative velocities, I can just go xpos+= xvelocity and ypos += yvelocity instead of xpos = math.cosine(angle)*magnitude
If you need to make relative adjustments to the angle, using the earlier becomes costly. If you never need to make adjustments to the angle, using the latter becomes costly.
The question thus becoming, if you go by angle-magnitude, then the position change has to be calculated on a more complex level derived from the result. Meanwhile, if you go by x-y, then angular velocity is what would need to be calculated.
I'm on my second fortress, and I've encountered a problem I didn't really expect: I'm chronically short of wood. I embarked into a forested area, so I had plenty to begin with, but now I don't have enough to do all the crazy stuff I want to. There are plenty of saplings on the surface, so I hav...
Starting with 1.8 prerelease, Minecraft players earn XP when they kill mobs!
What are the benefits of leveling up? More health? More damage? Larger inventory?
@Lazers I don't think anything regarding the exp. system has been implemented in the 1.8 pre-release yet (then again I only played about 10 minutes of it).
True story: my wife saw me browsing this site from across the room and asked **are you looking at personal ads?!** (Uh, no. I'm browsing a gaming site. Yes, really. See? It has a heart icon. Hearts? Gaming? Get it? Sigh.)
My current theory is that the icon was created in order to facilitate relationship problems. How else are you going to have more time for video games? ;-)
When you're looking at one and it's running at you really fast, you know you're in deep trouble.
The question would be what is the best tactic to kill those because they seem to teleport behind you or on your side which is kinda hard.
@RavenDreamer Also also if you're looking for LP's for Minecraft, a friend of mine has started doing some and is looking for subscribers and views and stuff, if you're interested. :) I like watching it because he's not like, super-pro, he just does regular stuff and gets distracted by sheep like normal people. XD
I noticed that the weapons in Dead Island have prefixes on their names. The ones I've seen so far are:
Damaging
Feeble
Tiring
Weak
Flimsy
Spiteful
Disabling
In examining the items, it seems that the names are related to the most extreme stats, such as:
Flimsy weapons have very low Durabilit...
Scrip is an American term for any substitute for currency which is not legal tender and is often a form of credit. Scrips were created as company payment of employees and also as a means of payment in times where regular money is unavailable, such as remote coal towns, military bases, ships on long voyages, or occupied countries in war time. Other forms of scrip include subway tokens, arcade tokens and tickets, and "points" on some websites.
Scrips have gained historical importance and become a subject of study in numismatics and exonumia due to their wide variety and recurring use. Scr...
Wow, I've never heard of a deal that makes a computer worse than its normal build until I Googled the computer I currently own and found out that the CNET special build switches out the dual GTX 570 cards for a single GTX 590 card.
@Powerlord I've heard of that usage, though I think always parsed it as 'script kinda, though that may be because of how people in my area pronounce it
But as far as the currency usage, I've not heard of that
I want a software to manage all of my flash games.
I am using a software called "Standalone-Flash-player", but it doesn't have any option to manage games.
Right now the Minecraft Beta 1.8 Pre-Release is out and I went to try it out. I realised that food only recovers your food bar not health bar and if the food bar is full, you recover health slowly, does this mean that we cannot directly recover health in Minecraft Beta 1.8?
So, when we are fight...
A while ago (I think about 15 years ago) There was a tank shooter game that i played with my dad. I do not remember much from the game, just few still images still remain.
The game was a 3D game where you control either a red turret or a blue turret in a grey polygon field. You would take turns ...
I am playing as Xian. Is there a way to kill thugs without being hit by it? It seems to take 10-15 weapon throws to kill the thug as Xian. Is there a better way to kill it?
More Cryptozookeeper: I was going after the ape in the corporate lab when I found a woman hanging from the ceiling of a work room, partially encased in crystals. Scanning her reveals that she's still alive, only unconscious. However, most attempts to interact with her are failures.

I seem to recall this one FPS I played around 1999 - 2003 where there is a apartment room with a corpse lying face down with a stake at his back. And writing on the floor made by the dead man before dying with the word "Buffy" something something.
Here are some FPS I can recall during that perio...

I was playing a Steam game yesterday and remember taking a Steam screenshot with the F12 key. I distinctly remember the "shutter" sound and the Steam popup which appeared with the small version of the image. But checking the screenshots section of my Steam profile today, I can only see old screen...
I've not played Minecraft in a while so I'm not sure if this is new in 1.8, but I don't seem to have the shearing touch anymore with sheep. Is there a new way to get wool or do I have to murder all the sheep?
With the Minecraft release in the near-future, would it be worth it to systematically go through all the old questions (say, 621 of them) when games are officially released and make sure they are still relevant?
This is a problem with any game that receives updates to a point, but Minecraft has ...
Sometimes I just can't figure out how the unit strength value is calculated in combat. For instance, yesterday I was sinking poor out-dated barbarian ships with my sub, and when peeking at the combat preview I saw this:
Why is the caravel's strength listed as 6 and not 15? And why is the sub's...
I'm trying to find this abandonware game where you play some sort of a medieval townsman and you buy all sorts of buildings, run for offices and marry you kids to other nobleman. I'm pretty sure that the title has a year in it and that it's from the '90. Anyone knows what game I'm talking about? ...
I usually run a good fiscal policy so my gold is always positive. I've read somewhere that if you get to 0 gold, units start to sell themselves. Are there any other repercussions? Also, what happens if you have a trade agreement with someone and you need to pay them X gold per turn, and you just ...
Yesterday, when I was playing as Polynesia, I tried to understand if Ironclads will be stronger for Polynesia than for other civs. On the one hand Kamehameha has the wayfaring trait, allowing all units to enter coast and ocean tiles from the get-go. On the other hand, the Ironclad explicitly cann...
I like the idea of LoU to make never-ending-game but I do not like the game because of financial discrimination, more here. I am looking for a similar never-ending game with co-operation but hopefully finitely and on the board or in such a way that I can research the game independently (without h...
once you start NFS:Hot Pursuit the first time, it gives you sixty-six pages of legal and privacy material you're supposed to review and accept while in game
Yes, I screenshotted them all
sixty fucking six
and then the thing failed to log me in, and once you're logged out it appears you must restart the game to log in again
"I return to find... creative mode in pre-release! Gasp! Needless to say, TMI will have to become even better than creative mode (in addition, it looks like since creative mode is "separate" from survival mode, people will still want TMI for survival mode worlds). "

So far in Dead Island I've noticed white, green, blue, and purple items. These seem to indicate different rarities, similar to the classification system used in Borderlands, but I don't know what these colors actually mean. Is green more rare than blue? What are the different rarity colors?
I've already altered the FOV in Dead Island, but I'm noticing that the constant "wobble" of the screen when making attacks is getting a bit disorienting and distracting. I'm OK with the camera shaking and such when not-so-common events happen (even getting knocked down is fine), but the constant ...
There are a number of behaviors I've seen slimes exhibit that I think are bugs, but I'm not sure of. Which of these behaviors, if any, are intentional and which are bugs:

Not burning when in lava (or at least not dying, sometimes the burning animations show...
Yeah I just got Deus Ex: Human Revolution downloaded....It told me I needed a thing called Steam. So I downloaded that, made an account, linked the game to the Steam thing, and now when I play it brings me to the Deus Ex: Human Revolution home page on steam, telling me I can buy the game again......
More Cryptozookeeper: my collection of chimerical creatures is swelling out of control. I've got a rough idea of which ones are strongest, but there's so many of them now that I should probably take the time to scan them with my third eye and do a statistical comparison.

@TomWijsman IMO 'Buy the game' qualifies as a valid answer. We can help him. Just because he doesn't like it, doesn't make it less true. Voting will make up for any issues with an 'accepted' answer.
(Should probably protect the question though if we go that route, to filter out any retards that might actually provide piracy assistance.)
@TomWijsman "Buy the game, because a pirated version isn't going to work" is a valid answer which inherits the spirit of the FAQ, if not the letter. Protecting the question solves the same problem as closing it while allowing for 'buy the game dumbass' to be an answer. because it's a valid one.
I'm fairly sure that the pirated games clause in the FAQ is not to prevent us from saying 'go buy the game because your pirated shit is broken.'
@TomWijsman I'm of the opinion that telling anyone that can't get their pirated shit to work to stop being dumb and cheap and go buy it is generally constructive.
@TomWijsman Does it directly solve the problem being asked about? I'd say that it does. It's about as constructive as you can get. About the only thing not constructive about it was my use of pejorative and profanity in my example text.
(Which of course, was added for emphasis and simplicity here in chat. A more verbose, polite, and complete answer can easily be drafted.)
@LessPop_MoreFizz It doesn't solved the piracy case, you're taking the assumption that he would want to buy the game which contradicts with his pirated version.
@LessPop_MoreFizz There is no need to add stop words that are of no value...
@TomWijsman Hence my statement that it might not ever be the accepted answer, but that's what voting is for. Every once in a while, you have a question where the only appropriate solution is to 'shut up and take your medicine'. We can't (and shouldn't!) ban 'take your medicine' question on those grounds. If anything, that's one of the reasons voting exists, and there are even badges that reward that sort of thing.
@LessPop_MoreFizz Hency my statement that it might not ever be an open question, that's what close votes are for. Every once in a while, you have a question that does not adhere to he FAQ guidelines and where the only appropriate solution is to close that question. We don't need to waste time answering 'solve my piracy problem' question on those grounds. If anything, that's one of the reasons voting exists, and there are even badges that reward that sort of thing.
If you want to post an answer that doesn't get auto-converted to a comment, go ahead, but it's just a waste of time...
@LessPop_MoreFizz No, it says to hide evidence. Your again assuming the crime didn't take place yet. You could answer "You shouldn't hide the evidence, but report yourself to the police." which probably has zero effect...
@Wipqozn Indeed, the reason that we close these kind of questions is so that later low-reputation users or the community user doesn't bump the question again. Less piracy, more unanswered questions that actually need an answer. And then there are still the delete votes...

Some have reported already to have found those in the pre-release and the option to create them is ON. I've tried to create about 20 maps and been looking everywhere and haven't found one.
Where do they spawn ? Which environment (biomes) they live ? What's the best way to find it ?
I've been bitten by a blue spider in a dungeon and now I'm poisoned. I'm taking too much damage when poisoned and I want to be cure.
I know when eating rotten flesh, I can be poisoned too so it could help for those who have eat it.
What's the remedy ?
@LessPopMoreFizz It's interesting; it's very difficult to get upvotes except by posting rage comics or memes, and even then you're risking getting downvoted specifically because you posted a rage comic or meme, regardless of the content
Wikipedia on Wolfenstein 3D development mentioned, that "... early concept of the game included some innovative stealth concepts—dragging dead bodies, swapping uniforms with fallen guards, silent attacks". It seems very interesting. Reason for not having it here was, that it "drastically slowed t...
I just came across #5, but the last one I found was #3. I looked through most of the quest locations in the city already, but I can't find it.
Where is recording #4?
You can turn in food and water (and I guess alcohol/champagne too, but I haven't turned in a lot of these) but there doesn't seem to be any end to how much you can turn in. So far the reward has just been cash each time.
Is this just your standard fare repeated-quest turn in, essentially giving ...
In the first bonus mine, after finding my way through a veritable maze of impenetrable rock formations, I managed to catch up with Satan. What on Earth is he doing down here?
Does he have any kind of significance?
I remember playing this game sometime between 2003 and 2006.
It was a top-down shmup (shoot-em-up) game with full 3D graphics.
I think it had some camera settings, so the camera could position itself in an angle, instead of straight top-down (not very sure about this camera setting; but it cert...
@GnomeSlice Yeah. My cable was out for a couple days, and it missed a few shows it was set to record. The Tivo knew that it wasn't getting a signal, so I'm hoping it will be smart enough to record them the next time they air. I'm not sure where to look that up, though. The Tivo forums have been amazingly unhelpful
Interesting. I just went and looked at my Tivo's recording history and it recognized it missed shows because it was out and recorded them when it aired again. Hooray for not missing an episode of Burn Notice
