Oh no.
Did Keen leave the site completely as well, as opposed to just stepping down from moderation?
That's bad.

@b_jonas yes. his account was deleted completely

This is sad. Two established contributors leaving.
I know it happens all the time on websites, but still.

Neither @Keen or @Gilles completely removed their accounts. Just from scifi.

@Mithrandir understood. still, it's sad.

I can't say that I'm not disappointed at the election results. My top two choices were Null and Jason as they clearly displayed the most presence in my opinion. I'm not sure what to make of someone so controversial being elected as a moderator. To be honest I would've preferred someone without proven misbehavior on other sites. It's nothing personal, but obviously you'd like your favorite site to be in safe hands. Jason, I hope you nominate yourself again next year.
And nevertheless, congratulations to the elected.

I saw a couple of mentions that if the election results were calculated with 3 seats available instead of two, @JasonBaker would win #3 place over @JackBNimble who was eliminated last in the current 2 seat-calculation.
Can anyone explain why and how this works?
Actually, I'll make this a meta post.

@SQB with 3 seats, the threshold would be lower

SQB
@Loong Ah, so votes would be transferred differently?

@SQB I think you're referring to:

Out of curiosity, I ran the results through all the other election methods in OpenSTV's short list. The two winners are the same no matter what I pick. Third place is usually Jack but under a handful of methods comes out as Jason instead.
Meek STV was one of the methods where Jack wins, so everybody else who said Jack was #3 was basically correct

SQB
@Ixrec That's one of them, yes. After Keen left, there was some talk of rerunning the calculation as if 3 seats were available.

12:42 PM
ah, now that you mention it I never tried running it with three openings

SQB
Also, scifi.stackexchange.com/election looks weird with two missing userboxes.

@SQB I guess, in this case, after about round 5, the votes would be transferred differently

@JackBNimble Jack, I voted for you (well, one of my votes). I have seen your comic before. I found it awhile ago, from one my firsts visits here. Then I would see you answering questions, commenting.

@EllieKesselman Thanks for your support and for reading the comic.
@SQB Way to crush my spirit.

@JackBNimble I was complaining about that.

@SQB Spirit crusher!

SQB
@JackBNimble I was going to suggest adding your comic to the Mos Eisley feed.

@SQB That would be interesting. They aren't always on topic though.

because mos eisley is always on topic

Always

3:47 PM
@JackBNimble Beverly Crusher, Wesley Crusher, Spirit Crusher?

@randal'thor Perhaps.
