@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 Yeah, I thought I had prepared it well, but it's my first time so I just realized I didn't after applying the paint. I was still surprised with how many details show through the paint that you don't realize when it's primed

Like, some defects were "expected" as in I wasn't sure it was well prepared, but some parts that looked fine showed some defects too haha

hmmm? Am I the only automotive design engineer here on this forum? If you don't understand how a car works, and you don't understand the root causes that drive design decisions, you can't really be a good automotive mechanic. You are guaranteed to be just mediocre. You can do band aid repairs, but is that really serving the customer well? Are we aspiring to mediocrity or excellence in repair? What's up with closing all automotive engineering related questions?

And yup I’m talking about folks closing automotive design / engineering related questions unnecessarily.

@zipzit Be aware that your statement here is needlessly confrontational. Many good mechanics understand very well how the bits they are fixing work, and understand torque requirements as rule of thumb, but don't necessarily have the skills or training to design those bits, to know the mathematical calculation of stresses and loads etc

@zipzit But there are some design/engineering questions that have been closed as they were not a good fit for this site's scope

Which ones specifically were you disagreeing with closure?

Worth a discussion - obviously 5 other members of the community thought they should be closed

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 The result without clear coat, the spray can is only arriving saturday. The second is the one that has the ugly mark that I stupidly thought I had sand down enough but hadn't. At least it's something that can be fixed after I have my windshield back on and am riding the car again
