@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 yeah I remember the days when I had time to write here! My pool of ancient questions and answers aren't putting forth the rep like they used to!

9 hours later…

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 Here's a fun one: driving back from my parents' place in Oklahoma, the serpentine belt on the wife's 07 Escalade snapped. Hooray.
WTF. I must've pissed off the car gods at some point in a former life.

I had the AC set at 60 for about 90 miles. My theory is that it's a little low on refrigerant, the compressor locked up, and voila. About to finish my beer and have a look. For once, AAA made it there in 15 minutes.
@RobertS.Barnes Holy crap. But, now I want the $50k toolset. :(

9:28 PM
@DavidLively - Is your Escalade setup like a typical LS Vortec engine? I mean, with the small belt for the AC compressor? Now I want to get mine changed. I've had my truck since 2010 and I've never changed either one of my serpentine belts! Yikes ... it probably needs it by now. They've only got about 70k miles I've put on them. Who knows how long they were on there before that, lol!
Truck has 177k miles on it, IIRC.

9:51 PM
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 yep, that's the one. 6.2L. I just finished putting new belts on. The old one didn't snap. It's trashed, but it just came off. Tensioner feels fine. Shrug. The AC belt was missing a couple of ribs. Might be related. :/ still, nice not having a car payment.

@DavidLively - Sans car payment ... definitely a good thing. I'll put up with the minor repair bills every once in awhile versus what it would cost to replace my truck with a new one (or even a quasi-newish one). Just doesn't make sense. One of the reasons I keep full coverage insurance on my vehicles ... it would cost too much to replace them. At least I can recoup some of the vehicle having it insured.
Not sure on your belts, but would wonder about the tensioner. Look to see if it's off kilter a little bit (at a bit of an angle). If it still looks fine, you may not have put the belt on correctly or might possibly have put the wrong belts on it? Stranger things ...

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 belts came on it. But, I just notice the new belt is walking off of the crank. Ran for about 30 seconds and its up over the pulley flange closest to the block.
This is the first time I've gone anything to this one other than oil changes. Bought about a year ago.

@DavidLively - That usually means one of the pulleys is going bad and is off at an angle, which takes the belt with it.
Could be an idler or tensioner.

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 PS pulley has a
few mm play.

If you put the belt back on there right, you can usually see which one is off without even running it. If it's walking off the crank that fast, it should be pretty easy to spot.

10:05 PM
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 and doesn't look exactly square to shaft. Barely.
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 thanks.

The PS pulley would not be the first thing I'd think of would be bad.

Yeah... That would be a first for me.
It's weird. Looks like it's sitting back / closer to the block than the matching part of the crank pulley by about 3-4mm. About one rib width. Argh.

Mine isn't nearly that bad but I've got a bit of PS pulley wobble on the Camaro. I feel like it might be a slight design flaw, given that the belt is on a few different "levels" (or not all in one plane, if you will).
something somewhere is going to get some lateral force

@DavidLively That could do it ... Im off to get my daughter a new ceiling fan ... her's makes WAY TOO MUCH NOISE (according to her ... argh).

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 I recommend noise canceling headphones.

10:12 PM
@Zshoulders - Yup. Agreed and ... HEY DUDE! WAZZUP!

@Zshoulders looking for pictures. Might take some video of this and watch it incessantly.

@DavidLively I'll see if I have some time to take one tonight. Don't have it with me right now
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 Hey hey. I was out of town for a little while. I'm back now.
Got a new officemate, haven't had the stones to keep a chatroom tab open yet. We'll see if that changes with time

10:47 PM
I made a video. youtu.be/W_mO14iI_UI
@Zshoulders @Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 I made a video. youtu.be/W_mO14iI_UI
Shows the PS pulley position and a weird tensioner head-scratcher.
If you get a minute, have a look. Cheers.
