A: Why don't car manufacturers treat rust-prone parts of a car with rust converter?

@Movemorecommentslinktotop ... I really like POR-15 as well. One trick I learned from a buddy of mine is if you have holes in your floorboard in the car and you want to fix it up without doing a lot of metal work, use some fiberglass mesh, apply it where the hole is, then cover that in POR-15. It hardens up like rock and you'll not have any more rust there, either.
It seals up the hole without a large amount of fuss. Don't ever plan on using the paint brush you are using again, either. It will harden up like a rock, too. I'll pick up a pack of utility paint brushes from Harbor Freight if I'm going to bust it out.
I pulled the rearend on my Camaro when I was putting a girdle on it and some other suspension parts. I cleaned it up and covered it in POR-15 ... The black look under there was great! That stuff is like black gold, I tell yah!

@Paulster2 Nice, just the mesh. and no resin? I guess the POR takes place of the resin?
I bought a Tahoe from Massena, NY a few years back. That stuff worked like magic on the frame, it looked like I had done a frame off restoration under there. It goes on with a paint brush and looks like it came out of a paint booth, it's really unbelievable. I think they say it bonds molecularly with the metal, you can beat on it with a hammer and not chip it or anything.

@Movemorecommentslinktotop ... Yes, basically takes place of the resin. The POR-15 shuts down the rust which is there and you have a leak proof, sealed up floor board. Works like a charm, especially for a vehicle which is still basically sound, but has some pin holes in the floor board. No more wet feet :P
