@BobCross a computer science colleague conducted some undergrad research in which he compared auto tranny logic across different auto manufacturers. What he said was that the Japanese car makers tended to use fuzzy logic while the US car makers used a more heuristic, threshold-based approach. Of course, it would help to know what cars were used in the study, but I don't remember now.
