@Pacerier. I found the resolution to the above problem
A Dictionary of Basic Japanese Grammar. Page 317.
There is a distinction between の1 and の2
今の and そんなの belong to different type's of の altogether
の1 is the possessive の. の2 is the indefinite pronoun
For possessive の, something can come after it because it is due to ellipsis. So 今の人 is grammatical
for the indefinite pronoun の2, そんなの人 is not grammatical
the の2 used in そんなの is a indefinite pronoun. And it does in fact refer to "one".

Yes そんなの人 is not grammatical.. that's exactly what I was talking about in http://japanese.stackexchange.com/a/5332/264 (the part on *"we can't simply chain nouns together unless to form compound nouns"*). the の in そんなの is a "noun", which means thing. Your evaluation is that the の in そんなの is an "indefinite pronoun", but in Japanese all pronouns are actually nouns, so they are actually the same thing.

Btw I've found some flaws with your original argument. If I understood correctly, you said that the “今の” in “今のは誰” is considered a synthetic noun, however.. http://japanese.stackexchange.com/q/

Well then it most definitely cannot do 今ののX
Hm...
Cursory googling does find other things
Right now I'm really not sure if it's correct or not.
I guess we'll wait for answers.
