Q: Why is BiCl5 not very stable?

AashiI read this in a textbook - Bi(V) is very unstable and is a good oxidizing agent Why does it happen that way? Is it because in +5 oxidation state Bi pulls in more electrons and hence gets reduced fast or there's a different concept? Also then BiCl5 should be more stable than BiCl3 becaus...

@GaurangTandon In Row Major etc Address calculation, if I use the simple logic of counting number of rows etc and show steps (instead of that big formula), will marks be awarded?

Q: Valence bond theory and molecular orbital theory — how do they complement one another?

ANZGC FlyingFalconBased on my readings, valence bond theory (VBT) and molecular orbital theory (MOT) tend to complement one another in explaining a molecule, but I don’t understand how VBT helps us explain the properties of a compound (other than bond angles). How does VBT complement MOT in aiding our understandin...

Q: How to get unblocked from asking questions?

MasonI got down votes on some of my questions and some of them closed, so, I got blocked from asking. After a period of time from being blocked, I regained the privilege of asking, but only one question that I could continue asking after it if it was positively recieved. That question got two upvotes,...

Is the mathematical stuff related with hybridization explained in advance classes?

@Zerix Huh? "High school hybridization" doesn't have much math stuff. More developed like with fractions etc. is a bit prosthesis for proper s-p mixing I think, which gets into serious theoretical chemistry.
