Q: Why do comments cost 50 reputation, but answers don't cost anything

Graham LewisSeems to me like this is broken: If I don't have an answer, I shouldn't be posting one, but that is the only way to ask a question or get clarification. Also, why should I be able to answer anything if I have no reputation? What good is my word?

Holy shit I never knew! I'm just gonna put bounties instead of comments from now on

@hBy2Py honestly, I don't know what to say...
03:12
i can only thank you for your kind words...

@GaurangTandon so you did say something for his kind words
I don't think there's a good enough body gesture for a thank you
Oh man, Dave's got a point though
Changing 2 to 2 and 4 to 4 is hellishly nitpickish

I imagine @Gau found out he can edit posts, then he went crazy with the red, googly eyes spinning and a frantic laugh
HEEERE'S EDITORRR!!!

@GaurangTandon @AvnishKabaj Are we supposed to learn pH ranges for all indicators?
14:47
@Abcd methyl orange and phenolphthalein and you're good to go...
OK

I wouldn't wanna be in Gau's shoes right now
Act in good faith . . . Do exactly like trusted users and mods say . . . End up being yelled at. Well, not yelled at, but been grumpiered through

Yay, I invented English
@M.A.R. What happened is Dave still grumpy?
I wouldn't wanna be yelled at.
. . . WHY THE HELL DID YOU DO 1250 EDITS IN COUPLE OF WEEKS?
@AvnishKabaj nah, I am being rudely awakened
Realizing I wouldn't wanna be in his shoes. They're tiny, baby shoes
@M.A.R. I wonder what a grumpy M.A.R looks like
Also, I hate an inactive chat. Had to spew something
@AvnishKabaj GET OFF MY LAWN
@M.A.R. shizzzz this is your chat
16:18
@M.A.R. ha, I was just collecting interesting many posts to read and learn new stuff; I edited them simultaneously as I read them; look at the humongous favorites list I generated - chemistry.stackexchange.com/users/5026/… that's not to count the many chrome bookmarks I have, phew...
i think this break will give me the necessary time to cleanup my bookmarked stuff
@M.A.R. I did not have a better way to say that, and it's almost exactly what I feel...
Can someone please help me enable chem jax?
I have asked it three/ four times here
Whenever I type $\ce{}$ in chat, it is displayed in red
(I am using the website, not the mobile app)
16:39
@Abcd you have loaded MathJax without mhchem
@M.A.R. So how do I get mhchem
@M.A.R. so, \require{mhchem}?
@Abcd make a bookmark of Mart's code in the answer to how to enable MathJax meta post
Drag it every time you wanna turn it on
@GaurangTandon that didn't seem to work last time I tried
Which was two years ago, I think
Oooh, this one instead actually

A: How can I enable MathJax in chat?

mhchemUpdate 2017-05-01 The MathJax CDN retired and the javascript-URL idea is not so easy any more, because of browser security. (Chrome stips away any leading javascript: when pasting into the URL line. SE modified the javascript: link so that it does not work.) So here is my take. I modified the ...

$\ce{chemjax <=> enabled}$
Stappit it's annoying
not enabled yet..
I cussed quite a number of times before getting it right.
It didn't break after that, though
My laptop broke sooner
$\ce{Hi -> Bye}$
Woah! Done!
$\pu{pK_a}, \pu{1 L atm}$
[pings organic chemists] do you guys use this site anymore? organic-chemistry.org
?
i mean, the letter requesting donations is more than five years old
that means the founder either should've got the amount of money he requested (and remove the letter) or have abandoned the site due to lack of money
this site turns up in every single google search i make, and it's UI is like that of 2008
very very disturbing
16:54
Ha, it uses that bright red color . . . Pink! Right.
no offence, but that site almost feels like a 13yo kid just beginning to learn CSS styling
for those coloring reasons, exactly
@GaurangTandon maybe he discovered the perfect unbreakable polymer, earned billions and now lives on the International Space Station.
i meant styling, not content, the latter I think is probably awesome, but I don't know
@M.A.R. hehe, who knows :P
I've read content from there before
I can't remember whether it was good though
Which means it wasn't too bad.
My autocorrect loves wad and hates was.
@M.A.R. hold on the word, it should give you an option to delete the prediction (assuming swiftkey)

Q: which atom's better at forming coordination?

Yaya Sriin [Fe(CO)5] both C and O can form the coordination bond with Fe but why Carbon atom forming the bond instead of Oxygen arom which has lone paired electrons?

I tend to think of @ortho as a foretelling parrot.

Damnit, joke pooper

Alright @Secret, I read your explanation in the transcript and understood most of it. I saw the dissociation constants here
Now, as far as Option iii) and iv) are considered, I'd like to ask you if we can use Fajan's rules? $\ce{Ca(CN)_2}$ has more covalent character than $\ce{KCN}$, so it would dissociate less in aqueous medium.
Hence, the final order we get is:
$(ii)<(i)<(v)<(iv)<(iii) \space{} (\text{option 2})$

Can you suggest what you've tried so far and why it didn't solve your problem? — ericksonla 6 mins ago
It has a warm and fuzzy feeling to seeing someone you don't even know remind an asker about the homework policy
Like Logan watching Laura slash some throats
So cute
BTW, Logan is an awesome movie. Go watch it.

A: Correlation between 1H and 13C shifts - coincidence or not?

Peter BeynonApart from other specific effects, chemical shift is a function of electron density around the nucleus, so it is reasonable that proton shits roughly correlate with those of the attached carbon.

> . . . so it is reasonable that proton shits roughly correlate with those of the attached carbon.
LOL
Considering most of the atom is void, no one would notice the proton shitting

@Abcd How did make it work for the mobile site. The bookmarks don't work for me! Teach me master
