Q: Synthesis of Alkalide Ions

H. KhanHow are alkalide molecules synthesized, for example, I have read in a paper that the reaction $\ce{2Na -> Na+ + Na-}$ is exothermic with a $\ce\Delta$H = -438 $\frac{kj}{mol}$ I have also read that in the presence of a certain type of crown ether, under specific conditions, $\ce{Na+}$ crystalliz...

Fluoride is making a comeback with room temperature rechargeable fluoride liquid batteries
The new iron molecule also has the ability to glow long enough to enable researchers to see iron-based light with the naked eye at room temperature for the first time.
... findings open up other potential areas of application for iron molecules, e.g. as materials in light diodes (LEDs).

@Loong Thank God it became a HNQ! I'd have closed it, but now I don't actually see the point any more.
@Loong do I see that wrong, but did we ever act on something within the post?
It's still on the help page, but so is the computational stuff, which we are also handling differently now...

@Martin-マーチン I agree. That's also why I didn't close it.
However, what if someone would have answered something like "sugar makes the body acidic because of [pseudo-scientific reasons]"?

Q: Conditions for imine formation

Tan Yong BoonFirstly, note that this is not a duplicate of Acid in Imine Formation. Clayden, Warren, & Greeves (2012) states explicitly on p. 231 that imine formation requires acid catalysis, and that the reaction takes place optimally under slightly acidic conditions, close to neutrality. This makes sense as...

Does anybody have any insights to share regarding my query?
I am puzzled by this because theoretically, in basic conditions, how can OH- possibly leave, considering that this isn't E1cb?
I am referring to the step where the hemiaminal kicks out water and forms the imine.

I think we didn't get any agreement there. I think the pseudo-science answer stuff is most problematic if it gets up-voted. In any case, there should be post notices and there will probably be flags. And then we would have to open up the conversation about that.
