Sup yall?
@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M hows life my brotha? :D

3 hours later…
9:22 AM
o/

@StanShunpike How does waiting for school feel?
@pH13 \o
I feel like someone who waits for their death and can't do anything about it @Stan.

why that?

10:09 AM
@pH13 Imagine waking up early in the morning, going to study the same boring stuff over and over and over and over.
And fighting with sleep.

:))) I know that quite well

Well so much wasted time again.
9 hours everyday are gonna be spent in school.
Outta which only 1 hour will be worth spending it, almost.

that's school

I needz to get some repz. Gimme something to answer.

@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M Theoretically, is 1+1=2?

10:15 AM
@pH13 No.

+10

Of course not, what idiot says that?

some iranian boy I know
what question would you like to answer? ;)

Oh yeah? Well, theoretically, you're a goose, and I'm a wolf.

:o

10:21 AM
:O

@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M imo, the key to doing school is bringing something else to do in class. Then pay attention during that 1hr out of the 9 u mentioned.

@pH13 Chemistry question.

@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M but what kind of question

@StanShunpike The teachers are always watching students like what. I always bring a book or two there but I hardly get time to read 'em.
47 secs ago, by inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M
@pH13 Chemistry question.

xD

10:24 AM
My biggest remorse is that I can't seem to find Clayden in any bookstores here.

Yeah, teachers are annoying like that.
Unnecessary. They need to learn to accept smart students are hard to entertain lol

And legend says this year's teachers are lamer than ever.

How (not) nice

The only cool and nice teacher we get is our Chem teacher, most probably.

Ah, well at least chem will be fun
A good science class brightens my day

10:27 AM
Bio teacher, they say, is one big braggart.
Math teacher is a close relative of our principal, who's notorious for being hated. So I don't think we'll have fun with him either.

:/
The thing is, its okay for teachers to have flaws as long as they aren't crappy teachers. But if they cant teach and they have major flaws, then thats the worst
I have had a bunch of bad ones, but since I got to college, I havent had a bad one
Not yet anyways

5 hours later…
3:17 PM
@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M

1 hour later…
user161117
4:39 PM
I just finished drinking 10 mL of hexanes am I gonna be ok or should I try to wash it down with some lead benzoate

user161117
Nitric acid is in my stomach, so it should be safe to drink right? If it's good for cleaning out glassware it'll help me detox

6:21 PM
@StevenGrigsby WHAT?
@pH13 WHAT?
@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M WHAT?

@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M teh other chat r00m

I saw it.

I saw that I was in the wrong chatroom after pinging you
but then I thought that pinging you could never be wrong

Yes, it could only end up in someone's death.

so you admit on researching the nuclear bomb?
bad guy iranian!

6:27 PM
Yes, and we're going to bomb Earth.

1 hour later…
7:40 PM
@ron Can you please check if you got a new privilege? They (SE) seems to have rolled outv a new 25k privilege.

ron
8:02 PM
@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M Where would I check?

@ron Hullo, um, I think it should be somewhere right there.
Can you check your notifications and achievements?

ron
is that on my profile page?
tell me exactly how to check, I'll return later

Probably. You can also check your privileges.
"Achievement dropdown" is where you go when you see a +10 @Ron.

8:43 PM
@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M the site-analytics stuff?
@ron maybe somewhere here?
if it is the site-analytics stuff

user161117
pH13 what's your display pic, some kind of shiny molecular orbital?

9:00 PM
@StevenGrigsby a very shiny orbital, yes
one of the useless high lying virtual ones of pyridine

user161117
Nice, 5th quantum number, b for beauty

if you write an @ before the name, the resp. user gets pinged

user161117
Oh pyridine is one of my favorites

user161117
Well, I'm a little more fond of pyrrole though

wait ... it's not pyridine ... it's the one with two N in 1 and 4 ...

user161117
9:04 PM
1 and 4? 1 and 2?

pyrazine
this is it
and the image was made with iboview.org

user161117
Oh fancy, so why the affection towards pyrazine?

somehow it was there and I thought a fancy orbital would look nice
and somehow I need to take his challenge: We are commited to making quantum chemistry more shiny! The first person who uses IboView's super-shiny mode in an actual publication (and cites the curly arrow paper) will receive my personal Friends Of Shininess award! 8]

user161117
lol

I hope the award will be as shiny as the orbital

user161117
9:14 PM
So you do quantum chemistry, what kinda stuff do you do? I've got a bachelors and I have been looking more and more into computational chemistry

user161117
To be honest I feel like my knowledge is so damn flimsy

I will do my master thesis on Ruthenium dyes in comp chem

user161117
That sounds really pretty cool

user161117
So you're basically modelling the HOMO and LUMO and energy difference to predict the pretty colors?

user161117
Ok that sounds like I'm talking down on it but I am really into that sorta stuff

9:16 PM
we are more interested in oxidation/reduction stuff

user161117
Can you tell me more nitty gritty stuff like how you model it? Are you looking at potential energy surfaces with hartree fock and slater determinants or

user161117
I don't really know how you'd go about doing that, or what sorta software are you using, Gaussian, Spartan, GAMESS, something else? I am trying to see if this is something I can survive the next 4 years or so doing

afaik, no one should actually do hartree-fock

user161117
Yeah as far as i know it's an average-field approximation that's not so great

there are so many comp chem groups out there doing so many fancy things
I'm not sure if the group where I'm in is represantative

user161117
9:20 PM
Well I've been reading through Frank Jensen's Intro to Computational Chemistry the past week or so

where using mostly gaussian, turbomole and molcas
@StevenGrigsby the complete book in one week?

user161117
Hell no haha

user161117
I'm sorta lingering in chapter 3 right now

I don't think that you should look for sth that you can "survive" but sth that you really want to do

user161117
Well that's basically what I mean

user161117
9:22 PM
I won't survive unless I can enjoy it

exactly ... but I don't know how you can find that out :D

user161117
How much math do you actually do

I took comp chem courses during my bachelor study and since then I am into it

user161117
Because I love math, I don't want to be a computer monkey just inputting data

;D
I think that strongly depends on your group/professor ...

user161117
9:23 PM
Fair enough

I don't do much math and I'm glad that I don't have to ... but in the future I bet I can't ignore it too much ;)
but when you love math stuff, maybe comp chem stuff and maybe in general theoretical chemistry or physical chemistry can give you what you are searching for
@StevenGrigsby the input stuff is the one thing, but from my small experience, that can be hard enough
but the main part will then be about what you need to do with the data that you produce
and that can be another hard task
especially if you're doing stuff for which no common programs exist and you either have to write your own programs on doing the further math or have to use/figure out how to use some programs by others from your group ... there is much to do to kill time ;)

user161117
9:42 PM
Sounds good

user161117
At least you seem to be where I want to be

user161117
you're sorta doing research and trying to make new stuff to solve your problems

We have to

user161117
You have to know the math and also programming and chemistry

user161117
I like that broad range of skills

9:43 PM
in near future I will, yes ... or at least I will have to learn it ;)

user161117
Yeah I've been teaching myself programming the past 2 years now in my free time

which language?

user161117
I think it's kinda paying off, I really enjoy programming now while 2 years ago I hated the idea

user161117
Java

user161117
but now I've been branching out to Javascript and Python since a lot of people seem to be using those

9:45 PM
afaik, there is not much Java in comp chem

user161117
I wouldn't mind learning FORTRAN although I heard that's a killer

user161117
Honestly it doesn't matter much from what I see, Java is just what I happened to learn, a good solid OOP language and python and JS are fairly similar, just some different syntax here or there but the concepts are more or less down

sure

user161117
Oh and MATLAB but that's just cause I love linear algebra

user161117
is Gaussian a programming language or more like tools or

9:47 PM
meh ... I never got a friend of Matlab

user161117
how does it work

it's a comp chem program

user161117
So it's like a calculator basically

basically

user161117
like ph 13 basic?

@santiago I think, you got a new friend.

user161117
Haha

yay for me!
another know-it-all-nitpicker
well, I have flagged it

10:13 PM
@santiago WARNING: ARROGANT JERK DETECTED. THIS BACKWARDS NAME GUY HAD HAD A CONVERSATION WITH HIM, AND THE GUY THINKS HE IS A GOD OR SOMETHING.
Just don't engage.

user161117
I keep seeing this guy's backwards name and thinking it says P.A.M.Dirac

ron
@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M Yes, there is a 25K priviledge, I can view site analytics.

I haven't engaged and don't intend to - but, I am not willing to be labelled as a 'stalker' in any capacity
but, my flag on that comment was declined

user161117
I don't get the philosophy of these stack exchange sites

user161117
like the point stuff

user161117
10:18 PM
Like are all these super smart dudes just in it for the points?

user161117
Like is there a way to just remove the points on this site so I don't see them or get bothered by them I don't want to earn badges or play this game thing I just want to learn some chemistry lol

@StevenGrigsby crazy ... it's all about the repz!!!!!!!1111!!!111
and for @inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M it's about flipping tables (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

user161117
lol well I better go load up on some memes next time I come here

@StevenGrigsby Well then we have so much to talk about the philosophy of SE.

@StevenGrigsby japaneseemoticons.me ... no thanks needed ... just put them all on @inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M

user161117
10:23 PM
I am 1,3-cyclopenta-dying right now

user161117
halp

@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M actually likes to get pinged with ಠ_ಠ

@pH13 You're lucky I'm on mobile.

user161117
ping me, I dare you, I already turned off my sound

as you say halp ... there is a funny picture that I HAVE TO show you

10:24 PM
@ron Thanks for acknowledgement!

user161117
gr8 meme m8!

that's the magical HALP-car
call it when URGENT HALP is needed
like the safety car in formula one

user161117
"HALP-car grant me ur magical octane, so that I may chug your glory"

user161117
I'm trying to calculate the LUMO of cyclomethyne can someone help

@StevenGrigsby what's your problem?

user161117
I don't know what's worse there

user161117
the guy ranting or the people responding as if it matters

:D

Didn't you need help with calculating LAMO?

user161117
yeah LAMO of cyclomethyne

10:36 PM
Sheesh you people need a hobby.
Like me.

@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M did you mean LMAO?

Sheesh you people need a hobby.

user161117
I actually meant HOMO

@pH13 If that's the Spanish for lame, yeah.

user161117
of the hetero atom

10:37 PM
5 mins ago, by pH13
@StevenGrigsby what's your problem?
@StevenGrigsby

user161117
lol

@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M like bicycle-kung-fu?

user161117
well first off I don't know what the molecular formula is

@StevenGrigsby I bet, google knows

Here's what Google knows Mr. LMGTFY.

10:40 PM
then the name is wrong

user161117
nope it's right

what is the context?

user161117
it's a cyclic one carbon chain with a triple bond

how can a chain consist of "one carbon"? it's late here ...

Should I laugh or cry?

10:42 PM
@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M cry, that makes me laugh

@StevenGrigsby I am seriously reconsidering my involvement here

@santiago ?

user161117
cyclomethyne it's just organic chemistry guys

user161117
simpler than methane, only 1 hydrogen since the other three bonds are tied up in a triple bond to itself

1 min ago, by inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M
Should I laugh or cry?
ςερτυθιοπλκξηγφδσαζχψωβνμ Hey this Greek keyboard is cool.

10:46 PM
@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M I mean my participation across the SE network

@StevenGrigsby cyclomethyne does not make sense ... so there must be sth around that name ... or do you only want to calculate CH?

@santiago Nah, don't let it get to you. If it's annoying you a lot, take a break, and come back when it's fun again.

user161117
I feel like I took this joke molecule too far

user161117
so I have to end it

user161117
:'(

10:49 PM
Well I did not cry, don't worry.
I made @pH13 cry though.

@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M it's not 'getting to me' - other reasons..

@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M not quite

@pH13 Yeah right. I already see tears rolling down your face.

user161117
mmmm

10:50 PM
@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M like you heard my aunt screwing me?

Don't tell me now.
Guyses this one's even better.

user161117
lol

there is always a bar over his I ... wtf

@pH13 Hush he's a typography expert and rules us all.

@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M Ī see

10:57 PM
That member is the kind that is insignificant in real life, or is a 'big fish in a small pond' and, like lightness et al, suffers a mind-meltdown when they see that rest ofthe world does not worship them.

user161117
Haha

user161117
Truly poetic

Mathematical

user161117
Wait can you do latex in here $\int_0^\infty x^n e^{-x}dx$

user161117
how'd you do that bar over your I

user161117
10:59 PM
I'm so jealous

user161117
how will people know my planck constants are really reduced while speaking in chat :O

but, I still do not appreciate being called a stalker

user161117
What if they think I'm using the oxidized planck's constant? :(

I don't know what the "Zeichentabell" is in english ... but it is this thing that windows provides for all the extra letters that are no common on your keybord
U+012A
charmap <- maybe the name

@santiago Take a look at their about me in different SEs.
They're sour, and they wanna make you sour.

11:03 PM
one thing that will drive that member mad though, is totally ignoring their remarks - which I am doing - I will be responding to ron in that comment thred though

Don't let them win.

they won't
that is never the issue

Maybe mod-flag and explain that "stalker" is offensive?

user161117
Yeah, I mean who doesn't stalk people on the internet these days

user161117
it's not a big deal

user161117
11:06 PM
backwards kid has the right idea

@StevenGrigsby me.

user161117
If you respond at all santiago, he's already won

@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M tried and it was declined

@StevenGrigsby Teen, there's a difference.

user161117
Oh

11:07 PM
@santiago Then just reply to them and say that it's offensive.

user161117
Sorry I never got out of the habit of calling people kids

user161117
Don't reply don't reply don't reply

@StevenGrigsby I am not responding to that member, another member made a good point in a comment earlier - am responding to him

user161117
Oh ok

@StevenGrigsby he is kung-fu teen ... don't confuse with karate kid

user161117
11:08 PM
can I be the kung-fu infant

there wrote a comment, addressing ron's early comment

@StevenGrigsby DON'T reply!!!

user161117
I'll reply good idea

@StevenGrigsby Son.

user161117
"Hey we were all just talking in chat about how you're a big meanie rude head kid"

11:11 PM
folks, just to repeat, I am not going to reply to that member, not at all

user161117
"first one to chug a whole bottle of isopropyl alcohol mixed with hydrogen peroxide wins!"

@StevenGrigsby \me iz kewl.
@StevenGrigsby I can't do that. I'm a trihydrogen caution.

user161117
woa

Stupid Autocorrect.
I meant cation not caution.

user161117
11:13 PM
cation pronounced like action

it is slightly disappointing that he offensive flag was declined - have re-flagged it as 'not constructive'

Well most of it is OT.

ron
@santiago Hadn't noticed that comment until I read your latest comment in response to my earlier comment. It was rude and I flagged it.

@ron I flagged it as rude/offensive, but it was declined

ron
@santiago yes I understand... strength in numbers

11:23 PM
but, you should ask that question!

Terminology FTW.
Now am I an element, a molecule, an ion, a Godzilla or what?

ron
@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M I always enjoy reflecting on your new avatars, wondering if the dotted lines are really going in the appropriate directions in this one?

@ron What do you mean?
@Mith didn't like the other normal convention for drawing three centered bonds.
So I changed so it'd look like this.
Still, it's not really real, so not much point in arguing over conventions; but how do you expect it to be @ron?

@ron if it is declined for you, might be worth making a meta post

maybe sth like this ... ?
@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M yours looks hand drawn ... did you?

11:30 PM
Yup.

faaaaancy

Or more like mouse-drawn.

user161117
Clearly this is coordination chemistry

@pH13 First time I hear someone say MS paint is fancy.

user161117
bonded to the atom in the center with atomic number 0

11:31 PM
@StevenGrigsby That's where you're wrong. Z=-1

ron
@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M where do you rank an equilateral triangle in the voting?

user161117
woah we're dealing with anti hydrogen?

user161117
nice

@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M it's a youtube link again, but you might want to watch it youtube.com/watch?v=v2g5qbvb7F4

@ron Oh so you wanted a triangle? Hmm.

user161117
11:32 PM
Correspondingly, anti hydrogen isotopes with more anti neutrons in anti water is called "light anti water"

I might change it now and then @Ron.
And blame autocorrect for capitalizing R.

ron
@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M not wanted, but expected, your "road to nowhere" made me think

So, @Ron @pH13 @Steve, what should my next avatar be? (Am sleeping now, will comeback tomorrow to see your votes.)

ron
@StevenGrigsby light anti water, I like it! I think it would be a big hit in restaurants with the calorie counting crowd.

@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M a completely new one is possible?

user161117
11:35 PM
2-Norbornyl cation

user161117
Yeah definitely, plus we can advertise that it will literally annihilate the pounds away

@pH13 It's not possible, it is an avatar.

@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M touché

@StevenGrigsby among other things.

user161117
details details

user161117
11:37 PM
it's dihydrogen monoxide that's the killer, so the anti molecule of this is clearly good

or an anti-@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M molecule

user161117
@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M Oh I am saying this should be your new avatar 2-Norbornyl cation

It seems one can't simply stop you guys from talking gibberish. Oh well, I'm your leader, so egg yolks on me.
@Ron what do you think my avatar should be? (I've already tried tetramantane)

user161117
is that 4 manatees bonded together

yes, yes it is - an they were not happy

11:41 PM
Not bonded, glued. 123

user161117
I mean I can imagine mommy, daddy, brother and sister manatee having a picnic

user161117
laughing over a good family-themed joke

What were they doing in my profile? :O

@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M here are some versions from a good inorg chem book

Oh no, not boranes, oh wait.

11:42 PM
go with helium hydride

user161117
In organic chemistry, the term 2-norbornyl cation (equivalent with 2-bicyclo-[2.2.1]heptyl cation) describes one of the three carbocations formed from derivatives of norbornane. Though 1-norbornyl and 7-norbornyl cations have been studied, the most extensive studies and vigorous debates have been centered on the exact structure of the 2-norbornyl cation. The 2-norbornyl cation has been formed from a variety of norbornane derivatives and reagents. First reports of its formation and reactivity published by Saul Winstein sparked controversy over the nature of its bonding, as he invoked a three-center...

You aren't over that trihydrogen already?

user161117
that H_4+ is like cyclopropane without the propane :O

I might try a weird conformation of good ol' cyclohexane.
Like the ones that twist like a Boa.

user161117
do the impossible catenane of cyclohexane then

11:44 PM
@StevenGrigsby the book says it's possible up to H_11^+

user161117
"good inorganic book"?

user161117
I'm scared

@StevenGrigsby Then how should I fit that in my profile pic?

user161117
that sounds cool though

degruyter.com/viewbooktoc/product/19732 there is probably an english version

11:49 PM
@pH13 o.O All single charged?

mh
have to look again
H_n^+ (n=1-11,13,15)
yes ... that's what they say

wow

but "only" in electron impact mass spectrometry

user161117
cool

user161117
so like less than a second

11:54 PM
that's not stated ... but enough to measure
H_3^+ seems to be a short time intermediate when passing H2 gas into a super acid

user161117
Maybe I'm weird but does anyone think "acid strength" is backwards

got to go - job interview coming up - @ron let me know if your flag is accepted or declined
hve fun all

user161117
later

cu @santiago
@StevenGrigsby what do you mean?

user161117
Well if we're talking about proton donors

user161117
11:57 PM
acid strength gets stronger the more weakly you hold on to protons

@StevenGrigsby should be like that

user161117
Yeah I just mean

user161117
strength is weakness

user161117
weakness is strength

got it ... ^^

user161117
11:59 PM
:O
