room topic changed to Documentation Beta: Everything is on fire and broken (no tags)

@KevinMontrose Those were quite some combustible tyres, to have caught on fire when kicked. ;-)

Setting realistic expectations

Q: Welcome to the Stack Overflow Documentation Beta!

Kevin MontroseIt’s finally here! Before we get to the tour, we’ve put together a couple examples of the quality of Documentation we’re hoping we can produce. We encourage you all to take a quick read through the StackExchange.Redis and Dapper topics. Go! We’ll wait. The Purpose Of The Beta During this, t...

welcome, to the wooooorld of tomorrow

Writing documentation is like riding a bike. Except the bike is on fire, and you're on fire, and everything is on fire... and you're in hell.

7:37 PM
Also the bike keeps changing shape while riding

Sam
Hello all

welcome

hello!

I submitted my first .NET draft :D Now where can I find it?

7:41 PM
@CarlosMuñoz That's why versions are so important.

@CodeCaster it's now a proposed change
^ though your's probably say "view"

Yeah you're right, thanks :)

dueling proposals there :)

Hehe
I "accidentally" rejected Daniel's O-) Now that vote is final as usual I guess/

Hi all
is it just .NET docs being done ATM?

7:45 PM
.NET and C# language
there are two SE libs too from earlier testing

ok

If I'm gonna ask why my bug question doesn't show up in the question list, you're probably going to blame caching, right? :P

Ah, there it is. :P

@DLeh hmm, your C# 6 features change isn't really C# 6 - maybe you meant to document the new String interpolation feature?
i.e. $"the current time is {DateTime.Now}"

Sam
7:56 PM
Do proposed changes follow the standard suggested edit rules when approving/rejecting (e.g., 3 approves result in the change being applied and vise versa for rejects)?

2 approvals required

Sam
Ok

But now I can't find anymore where I read that

Sam
Is that just during beta?

we're honestly unsure
Something that we'll figure out in beta. Right now it's 2.

Sam
7:58 PM
Same for rejecting, right?

I can vote on my own example. +1 ALL the things

ha
@JarrodDixon ^

THAT'S WHAT I GET FOR TRUSTING PEOPLE

hi, and congrats for going beta :)

8:05 PM
thank you

Congrats guys! Looking forward to this beta, should be interesting.

I have too many tabs open already, making it even more confusing...

@JarrodDixon Oops yeah I was just thinking "C#" features in general, and just picked one. Was still figuring out exactly how topics work, feel free to reject that one.

@DLeh I took care of the string interpolation thing, but I can't post it for some reason.

I flagged a post, yet my flag list is empty on my profile. Intentional?

8:13 PM
none of the new docs actions are reflected on the user profile yet
first round of bug fixes rolling out in a few minutes

8:31 PM
Is the whitespace left of the body also intentional? docs-beta.stackexchange.com/documentation/proposed/changes/81
(Chrome)

@CodeCaster currently, yes - it's where example voting controls normally go

@Jarrod of course. Thanks

we'll just add the voting controls, but disable them (and have visual styles to indicate that)

Take the link that CodeCaster just posted - are there plans to be able to see the markdown view of proposed content such as this? It's sort of annoying having the green overlay over everything, and can sometimes be clearer to see the actual source when reviewing

Yes please @James

8:35 PM
sure, we'll add that to the list!

i just got a downvote on my question. I hope the one who downvoted wanted the critic badge

@Carlos just refresh the badges list and wait till you see who earned it :P

So much for privacy :P

Hi all! I wonder if I got invited to the private beta because I asked for it, or because it was just my turn. Anyway I'm glad to be here.

What happens to your input when you downvote?

Sam
8:42 PM
Well, there goes my first edit.
@Konamiman Hiya!

@Konamiman glad to see you here too

@Konamiman welcome!

Playtime's over, time for bed. I'll see what you made of it tomorrow. Good job and good luck

Sam
@CodeCaster Night.

Q: What needs improvement?

James ThorpeSomething needs to be improved around here! I just don't know what:

nn

Sam
Ah...
Didn't see that.

I'm going to do some writing in the C# 6 new features topic.

53 mins ago, by CodeCaster
I can vote on my own example. +1 ALL the things
yeah, that's kinda a difficult problem - you really don't "own" documentation content
you participate in its creation

Hmm... Comments on proposed changes would be nice (eg for asking a clarification)
2

that is a good idea

8:55 PM
not going to worry about voting on examples you created/edited right now - pretty sure there won't be any rep gains for that action [status-deferred] :)

First draft created. It's bedtime in this corner of the world, more tomorrow. Bye!

9:11 PM
Has the number of approvers requirement dropped to 1 already? docs-beta.stackexchange.com/documentation/proposed/changes/88
Or is it perhaps because I was a previous contributor on that example?

ah, I dropped that limit actually
thought I posted it here...
guess not
since people are trickling in 2 was a little slow

ok, makes sense
Anyway - time to pop off this evening. Looking like a solid start!

thank you!

9:31 PM
another round of fixes have gone out

kudos for the reactivity ;)

10:18 PM
@KevinMontrose bug reports go in as documentation entries?

quiet you :p

@KevinMontrose the websocket update says "1 question with new activity" when updating
hah, no, I was being serious, wondering where I should mention that.

wat
screen shot?

I'll wait for the next websocket update
ah, it appears there's lots of places that reference "question" instead of "document" or "post"
so my guess is status-6-8-weeks

which page?

10:23 PM
/questions/ask route
"What's your Stack Overflow Documentation question? Be specific.", "Is your question about Stack Overflow Documentation?"

the site's basically a meta, so technically?

oh, I'm an idiot. The front page is in fact "questions", the documentation is elsewhere.
The "1 question with new activity" happened on the root route so guess that is valid
Yeah, I need to just go play some fallout or something.

another round of fixes building

signing off for a bit, the team will be around later though
so far probably my favorite topic: docs-beta.stackexchange.com/documentation/c%23/18/…
