I attempted to write an answer to the adrenochrome question but realized a few minutes in that the word "adrenochrome" is being used because it sounds more mysterious than "adrenalin". There's no scientific way to put that.

@Avery That is part of the package? The slang aspect is documented in drug enforcement papers: at least by/in the early 80s (the one handbook I found online) it is simply a street word for 'hallucinogen'. Because it 'sounds cool'. Stood in for DMT, another chem found naturally in the brain, powerful when injected/snorted, but abs useless when drunk/eaten.

Please don't be deterred by the adrenalin angle. -chrome is not the same substance and the whole story to it is way more interesting/important than one incomplete answer. We need to do a better job here and would probably benefit from more rather than too few answers.

Yeah, I found the original sources for that claim in newspaper archives. I guess if I have time this weekend I can finish an answer on the actual properties of adrenochrome
