@Oddthinking This 'thou shalt not…' is tempting to answer here within the site's scope. But I really wonder why it wasn't moved to Hermeneutics back then. Alas, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thou_shalt_not_covet gives gives a much better answer than Skeptics on this one? Namely that the original is ambigiuous and any yes/no will be a decision, made by the reader, not clear & tidy from the words alone, not even in context?
Seems like Skeptics readers prefer an analytical outcome, when the outcome has to synthesis?
@fredsbend Am on the move now. And since I seem to remember seeing you over there as well: why not take a shot at this? I'd love to see an answer here that goes full theological and linguistics, while still being a Skeptics(') answer…

@LаngLаngС My studies in hermeneutics have always been on the light end. I don't usually try to answer hermeneutics questions because I don't think I'm qualified. Where I excell regarding Christian religion is systematic theology and historic theology to a lesser extent.
