@Sklivvz concerning this cold you elaborate whether your comment still applies? As "Is the Mitre hat meant to worship Dagon? Clearly not" Is in my reading one aspect of exactly what is claimed and widely believed. Why shouldn't this be answerable, when you answered it with "clearly not" (although that should be elaborated of course).
"Was it historically adopted by the Church in imitation of Babylonian customs? Could work but not being claimed" In all versions of this claim that is the crux for these theories, not only in "imitation" but in outright inheritance. Isn't the current form of the question explicit enough for this?
If anyone could offer some insight on why this Q might attract DVs and CVs would also be interesting. The main tags are history and fashion, not theology, should that be of concern.
Considering the results for searching the net for "fish mouth hat mitre" or variant combinations I feel at least quite sure in believing this to be very notable.
And as I understand our mission statement, it is a real pity that people don't want the question and also not a good answer to this question, neither on this site nor in search results.
The popularity of a quite lazy answer leaves me doubting again what processes are going down here. Did the question gather any flags as well?
