@Magisch I would like that as well. The thing is, even if Monica isn't reinstated, I want that to be a mutual decision between SE and Monica. Most of all, they need to look at how they went about things and not just apologise, but redress that and start from there, not from "we know we did it wrong, you know we did it wrong, but we're not changing anything." Which implies the conversations with Monica aren't really in good faith.

@RichardU I'll admit to not being a huge fan of being referred to in a mixed group as "guys", but it's so pervasive in the language now that I tend to just ignore it. Being (senior) in IT and frequently the only female in most of the conversations, I do object to when someone addresses an email to everyone as "Good morning, gentlemen." Yes, I've had that several times. Returning with "Good morning, ladies" tends to be enough to fix the problem ;)

I don't like "guys" or the french equivalent of it. Not only it's colloquial, it carries an implicit idea because we share a gender we can be colloquial. That's being male. I would imagine being female or trans and being refered as "guys" is at least equally uncomfortable

My boss sometimes says “guys” or “chaps” in meetings, while knowing there’s a few female participants. No one minds at all, because he’s and incredibly good boss and respects everyone.

@Snow It's also possible that the female participants mind but not enough to object. Objecting can get you labeled.

Or they just don’t mind. I’m on eye contact with most of the team during these calls. We eye-roll and shake heads at many things, but the opening is usually friendly and free of fuss.

@Snow That's what my boss is like, and why I don't take it as being exclusive of the women (ok, woman) in the group.

@Snow Forgive me I didn't mean to be as combative as I was. I've been spending too much time on MSE arguing. What I mean is: For me I don't like the phrase. I would never dream of complaining about it. It would make me look soft and it just isn't a big enough deal to complain about. (especially if the boss is a reasonable person) I probably wouldn't even roll my eyes.
