1:41 PM
Hey there peeps.

Woah, is that really you?

3 hours later…
4:49 PM
I had a funny interview today. I have 4 30-minutes round with different developers (I know bit weird) and finally with CEO. CEO asked me 2-3 times if I still want to join them.

5:27 PM
I need little advise about salaries if anybody have idea. I had a funny experience. I quoted €45K-€55K in one interview, and then sent me job offer with €45K. Today I quoted €50K-€60K and they said it's reasonable amount (will decide upon offer next week). I have another interview tomorrow (final around) at a different company. I'm wondering if I should ask for €50K-€60K or €55K or €55-€65K?
I ideally want to get €55K but can settle for €50K

Never ask for a range. 99% of the time they'll ask for the bottom number because you indicated you're willing to accept it. I'm surprised they said your counter offer was reasonable since you already said you'd accept 45k
@varunagrawal Also, don't be afraid to ask for high. They may surprise you and accept it or they may just come back with a counter. They may also be surprised and come with a way lower counter offer. And in uncommon cases they'll decide you're too expensive and not make an offer (which means they're stupid and you don't want to work for them anyway).

@VarunAgrawal I think asking for a salary "range" is absurd. I can see no circumstances under which a company would offer anything more than the lower limit. I mean, what are they going to say? "We are offering you 52k because it falls within your range of 45k-55k"?! If they were going to offer that anyway due to their "internal policy", "market benchmark", etc., just make the offer and be done with. Why bother asking for range?
When someone asks me for a "range" I always turn the game on its head and use it to my advantage. So in your case, I would have said my range is "60k-70k". Then they either accept that and I get more than what I expected or they are forced to reveal their hand or I find out they are not worth my time.
I have had companies respond to my range with, "Uhm, actually 54k is the max we can offer" (and then I have a hearty laugh at their stupidity) and companies which just don't come back, in which case it is a bullet dodged because as Chris says they are stupid and don't know what they are doing.

7:27 PM
@ChrisE No! It was company 2 who I quoted new salary range
@ChrisE I was bit worried about this case
@MaskedMan I was hoping the same. They will take the mean and offer me
@MaskedMan 60-70 or 55-65?
Oh btw all companies seem to ask for a salary range her in Germany at point or another

7:45 PM
@VarunAgrawal I don't get what you mean by "same". Taking the mean is not what I said.

I mean, what are they going to say? "We are offering you 52k because it falls within your range of 45k-55k"?! ;)

@VarunAgrawal Why do you think 60-70 means 55-65?
@VarunAgrawal You are not very good at sarcasm detection, are you?

No! I got what you mean
But earlier I really thought negotiation work like this

If you go to a shop to buy a widget, and the shopkeeper offers to sell it to you in the range of $10 to $20, how much would you pay?

i don't know. i just remember reading it somewhere lol
lesson for future i guess
@MaskedMan if I want to settle for 55 (I find it very very good for my level), won't 60-70 be too high?
anyway doesn't matter. i got your point
