Q: Why is the RPG question closed?

Monica CellioI've killed my colleagues' characters during RPG session, now they won't talk to me is closed with the following notice: "Questions require a goal that we can address. Rather than explaining the difficulties of your situation, explain what you want to do to make it better. For more informatio...

@MaskedMan speaking of HNQ, my highest rated question got over 100 more positive votes than the question. I have no idea why it got such a positive reception.

A: Coworker is easily and often offended and doesn't want us to mention offensive topics like facial hair

Richard UAlert HR as soon as possible. This person is going to be disruptive as long as this person is allowed to be. In fact, give this person a taste of their own medicine and tell HR that a hostile work environment is being created by a person being offended on behalf of other staff who have expresse...

Q: Truth vs sparing people's feelings

Richard UFirst off, I'm going to say that I'm not going to advocate being a jerk towards anyone. There is never a cause to be rude or abusive in our responses. While we obviously shouldn't be rude or abusive, I don't think we should walk on eggshells either. Sometimes a topic is about bad behavior on t...

@enderland thanks for the edit ^^^^ I sometimes forget that I can come across as a bit pedantic in my terminology.

5:02 PM
@RichardU yeah, I wasn't sure what that word meant and so I figured I might not be the only person

@enderland I've been accused of having swallowed a dictionary on more than one occasion.

I'd never read it but figured it out from the context. Having said that, while you shouldn't use your vocabulary to make people feel inferior, never hesitate to use a word that is appropriate and that you genuinely would use with someone of equal vocabulary.

@ChristopherEstep being tiny and nerdy growing up, I learned to tone my vocabulary down. Get beaten enough times and you learn. :D

@RichardU I'm pretty well versed, which is why I edited - I sometimes get accused of similar things

@ChristopherEstep the only time I've deliberately used my vocabulary to make someone feel inferior is when said person was an online bully trying to make other people feel intellectually inferior. People don't like the taste of their own medicine.

5:11 PM
@RichardU ditto. i'm 6'1 now but graduated high school 5'6, started HS at 5'1".

5:22 PM
@ChristopherEstep Yeah, I filled out as well. The last time I got a beating was a few years ago when a drunken runt attacked me and I was trying too hard not to injure him. Oh, and this was in a library. I have a weirdness magnet of epic proportions

Hey, looks like they changed the visited hyperlink color!

@RichardU Am I weird if I knew what that word meant? :|

There's a part of me that wish "require a goal we can address" becomes invalid once there are multiple answers that have positive responses. Kinda disproves that reason.
almost like they mean "require a goal that I want to address"

Q: Shareholder bullies and doesn't like me. How to deal with this?

WorkingBearI have been working for over three years for a really small tech company (about 12 people in the team). This is also my first job ever. I have two bosses, the company owner who works almost always remotely (let's call him John) and a shareholder (let's call him Jack) that had been working with my...

exactly that one. It's weird how we go in cycles. For a while it was "company specific..." and then it was "everything is a dupe" and now it's "goals we can't address"

7:25 PM
@ChristopherEstep oh, the dupe craze was bringing out the sarcasm in me. I think that phase comprised the most amazing collection of definitions of "duplicate" I have ever seen.

Q: Can we reopen question " Shareholder bullies and doesn't like me. How to deal with this?"

Richard UShareholder bullies and doesn't like me. How to deal with this? This has been edited several times and is asking how to address behavior, which IMO, is a goal we can address, as opposed the the close reason.

Q: Asking for project change post maternity leave

user64479In less than a month I will return from maternity leave. I had been working in a project prior to leaving for maternity leave but I am now looking for a change in project due to certain concerns with my previous project. Monotonous work that does not give me career growth and does not enhance m...

9:51 PM
@RichardU The question is really too verbose for what it needs to be. It has nothing to do with leave.

@ChristopherEstep I got a phantom downvote for that one too, LOL. I always get at least one.
@ChristopherEstep The question she's really asking is how to use her new status to get out of a project. It comes across as a bit selfish to me, thus my reply, which I tried REAL HARD to not make it sound mean, but.... well, as asked, it would be a serious CLM.

10:10 PM
It's being appropriately downvoted (meaning that's how most are expressing their opinion of the Q) but there are still 2 close votes for "goals". /boggle.
Maybe goals we can address should be changed to "I don't like your question and I have enough rep to close it"

10:55 PM
It's sort of an XY problem, though
