@DavidK in the UK it is the way you would refer to 2 weeks. You'd very rarely use 14 days

@RoryAlsop Huh. I'd usually just say 2 weeks...

@ArtOfCode I'd pretty much never say that. I'd use 1 week, a fortnight, 3 weeks, a month

10 hours later…
10:45 AM
@RoryAlsop thats just weird.

11:29 AM
Nah - just everyday language here

2 hours later…
1:11 PM
If you think UKspeak is odd, let me introduce you to some Midwest slang....
"I tell you what!"
"That dog won't hunt!"
"He's as nervous as a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking-chairs"

2 hours later…
3:31 PM
Dang ol' Tell. You. What.

3:42 PM
He's madder than a wet hen
"Never let a cowboy make your coffee"

I'm like a turnip patch, wade on in and get you some!

Well, remember, you can't baptize a cat.

4:04 PM
Never approach a bull from the front, a horse from the rear or a fool from any direction

Speak your mind, but ride a fast horse

@RichardU in Somerset: speak your mind, but drive a fast tractor

No such thing as a fast tractor.

Oh yeah there is
There are tractors that do 40+
mph that is

That's a 4 wheeler with attachments.

and if you're talking about tractor units off 18-wheelers, they can be modded to do 100+
@AaronHall yeah, tractor

4:16 PM
:P
I used to pop my dad's Cub Cadet into top gear and barely feel the air. I could jog faster than that thing.
Man, I am so glad I don't have a lawn any more...

5:21 PM
@RichardU Grew up in the Midwest. Live in the South. It's goofier than anywhere else.
HINT: "Bless your little heart" isn't someone being nice. :)

5:51 PM
I knew a guy who could cus you out without uttering a single four-letter word.
election starts in a few hours...
Won't know how I'm doing until it's over, I suppose.

6:19 PM
@ChristopherEstep Oh, I know that one is dripping in sarcasm

6:30 PM
Of course there's fixin to, but the weirdest to me is "might could"

And "axe to grind" and bury the hatchet, and various other colorful metaphors
Just 'cause trouble comes visiting doesn't mean you have to offer it a place to sit down.

Q: To cut down on comment chatter, remove support for "@" except to invite someone to comment

djechlinThe most useful comments are aimed at the OP. Some of them should persist long after talk on the answer has died down. Notifications tend to suck people in who have run out of useful things to say to anyone who may like to read the question or answer in the future. And in my experience people ten...

Q: Why is the "Add Another Answer" button labelled "Answer This Question"?

ChrisFIf you've already answered a question the answer box disappears and is replaced by a button that on other sites is labelled "Add Another Answer": The image above is from Stack Overflow but it could be Super User, Webmasters, Gaming or any of the other sites I've checked. But here on The Workp...

@AaronHall tell that to Mr Lamborghini... P.s. good luck

TIL you need 150 reputations on the general SE Meta to vote in elections, and that other Metas don't count :-P

8:43 PM
Voted

The least I can do is link for others to vote :)

Voted
It's been pretty quiet in here, no disruptions

9:05 PM
@DoritoStyle where did you learn that?

I tried to vote and got a message to that effect
Sorry, Stack Overflow Meta, not General SE?

@AaronHall voted for you

I appreciate your support!

It's also at the bottom of the page there. Seems reasonable enough: stackoverflow.com/election?tab=election

@AaronHall no problem, you're one of the better folks in here, no brainer to vote for you

9:10 PM
> Any community member with 150 reputation may vote in the election. Each voter may select up to three candidates. Please make your selections in order of preference, with the most desirable candidate as first choice.
Since the voting is taking place on StackOverflow.com - I think it's about SO rep, not Meta.SE rep.

Yeah, that sounds more correct, thanks!

Precision - it's where it's at.

Precision: What a great quality for a moderator to have!

9:27 PM
The mods here are sane, I like to keep it that way

As a pretty recently joined member, the separation / not-really-separation between the original Stack Overflow and the rest of Stack Exchange still trips me up now & then.

Yeah, Voted for @AaronHall too. Definitely qualified, also had highest score in primary I believe.
Yeah, it's SO rep. That's where I got my badges for voting, not on meta.
I remember when Joel and Jeff announced SE I thought "It'll never fly" :)
I have a long history of dismissing ideas and getting it wrong. :)
"Chicken McNuggets? That's dumb. It's a burger place. I give it a year"

I was right about new coke, crystal pepsi and mcdlt though. :)
I was right about Brexit too.

Listening to the early episodes of the StackOverflow podcast is pretty amusing compared to the current site!

Q: Why was this question cloesed?

Richard UGift for contractor who did amazing work One upvote, no down-votes, one up-voted answer, and an appropriate work-place topic for this time of year. No community close votes, just the action of one moderator.

Moderators gonna Mod. That privilege comes with the position (I feel like that authority is used pretty sparingly).
