Q: How to provide Git Hub links on my resume?

user1429322I am a new graduate and starting to apply for jobs. While designing my resume I decided to include the links for the code samples that I have worked on ( I have pushed them on Git Hub). I have a few questions on how to provide the links. 1) Should I provide only my git-hub profile link or the li...

This is the sort of question that will get The Workplace a lot of traffic in the future from google.
It shows up fifth on Google for the question, "how do I list hyperlinks in my resume?" which is awesome, and incredibly useful.
Here are the first two hits (4th is a link to a closed question here, unfortunately):

Interesting perspective, Telastyn, I thought we did alright at editing and improving. Wonder if @jmac has any data on that. :) — jmort253 2 mins ago
@jmort, I do have data on that in the answer below it:

Leave comments telling users that their posts are getting negative attention, and more importantly, how to fix it
Aggressively edit posts (especially closed posts) where the asker has stopped participating (doesn't respond to clarifications) and there is a good core question that can be drawn out

Our track record as a community isn't too good on these of late.

Q: How can a manager of technical specialists stay relevant in a field with rapid technological change?

EkrodimtoI am a new manager, promoted from within, and spend less and less time doing hands-on work with the technology my subordinates work on. Yet technology changes rapidly in my field. (Imagine I am a web designer/animator. I was promoted to the manager of web designers/animators, and now I spend mos...

I believe it was more rant-like, saying, "My employees always badmouth me in front of my boss, and I'm not working with technology every day, and I was always the best on the team but am no longer confident with my abilities 200% (though I'm still right a lot of the time), and my coworkers go over my head, and how do I handle it?"
Found it!

Q: How can I keep my job and grow when my former peers undermine my promotion?

PuppetPrinceI feel like ever since I have been promoted to their manager, some of my employees (former peers) are trying to remove me, or at least to overtake me. They openly criticise and complain about anything, including minor flaws, especially when our superiors are around. I feel like they do it on pu...

You guys missed the best post today. It has long-since been nuked to oblivion, but someone made not one, but two accounts just to swear at TWP members. Meredith got a special mention as well. It was quickly handled, but I was amazed at the amount of malice.

@jmac link!

It's gone
Banished

not even just deleted? sad

It was maybe 8-10 hours ago?
This was it:
Oh, it wasn't nuked

wow. bwahahahaha

Apologies -- THREE accounts just for our sake.

we must be really important people

Hey Stormy, and welcome to The Workplace -- I'm a bit confused by the question, you say "I was in charge of a team of other software developers" and then "The word 'Senior' often causes confusion with recruiters who think i was in charge of a team" -- what exactly is the problem? — jmac 10 secs ago

@enderland This was awesome too: workplace.stackexchange.com/questions/17308/…
Also - If I was @Meredith, I would take issue with this one: workplace.stackexchange.com/posts/17311/revisions

@jmac Just to be clear I mean close first for questions that require a "heroic" or significant change in the question to save them. For questions that can be easily saved with some minor rewording then I do not have a problem with a quick edit,
I do not have a problem with agressive edits on closed questions where the OP seems to have abandoned the question.

3:03 PM
I agree with @Chad on both points.

If the op comes back after teh agressive change and whines I think we just need to show him our pimp hand and say STFUB
but nicely

Stormy really goes out of his way to ask for opinions. It's a shame, because they are generally interesting questions.

(btw, I want to point out that this ongoing career advice in chat is precisely why its such a poor main site question (and a good chat subject) - its been going on for how long, with how many opinions, and tailored very specifically to the person with the question... not that this should come as a surprise to anyone here)
so TRUE!

CMW
haha, absolutely
"How to express that my tech-lead has bugs" also is an awesome way to begin a question
maybe we should start TheDoctor.SE

Q: Should I give my current company a discount in negotiations?

Ben SteevesI've been working at my current company for 13 months. This is my first full time job after graduating university. I work in an analyst position fixing bugs, as well as working on a few solo development side projects for the company. I was recently recommended for a job at a new company, got the ...

@Chad Yeah, I figured as much, it's just that most of the closed questions seem to need a significant edit from my perspective. Usually stripping out 80% of the detail in the post. (Who coined the term 'Heroic Edit' anyway? I like it, because it sounds good, but jmort always referred to them as 'Aggressive Edits'. Whoever it was is a marketing genius)

You know, this is actually a great question if made a bit more general:

Q: How to title my last programming position?

StormyMy previous job title was 'Senior development engineer'. I was basically a sole developer in a midsized manufacturing firm and the go to guy for programming / supporting any software project undertaken by the company. The firm titled it 'Senior' due to my 8 years experience in programming and to ...

I think I'll make a canonical version.
