@jmac I just did some googling, the fantastic answers already existed! whats amazing is that was from 2009, and still applies and works fine now

A: Protecting resume against recruiters, double-presentations, and MS Word?

Lei YuIf you really want to send a protected PDF version of your resume, you can try Tagleo. You upload a PDF to their site and their service prevents copying, forwarding, and screen grabs. Check it out at https://tagleo.com/w/prevent_pdf_sharing.

does this count as advertising?

9:28 AM
@RhysW Yes.
@RhysW (or at least I think so)

@jmac thats what i thought, will flag it as such then
but will leave a comment to the poster, just incase its salvageable

Generally speaking, link-only answers promoting a site, especially on old questions, is considered bad form

@jmac yeah, but it seems to partially answer the question, specifically the part about how to keep stuff protected would be answered by using that site, it was an edge case, just wanted to be sure i was being 'fair'

@RhysW Any mention of other sites which do the same? (and how can you really prevent screen captures? I mean c'mon)

9:44 AM
@jmac true true! thanks for the reassurance!
did that YQL and jQuery solution help? or are you yet to try?

9:58 AM
@RhysW The solution as posted didn't work for me, but I'll make it work, have to try from home after logging in

it might have changed slightly in the last 4 years or so yeah

It doesn't let you crawl non-indexed sites, at least not while logged in
so I'll give it a try logged in and see how it works

10:34 AM
ahh didnt think of that

Q: Looking for new position, but skills out of date

ajbI'm been a software developer/engineer for over 30 years. My problem is that at the very small company I work for, I haven't been able to keep my skills current. The specific skills I've been using on the job aren't skills that are in much demand elsewhere, and there's not much prospect of bein...

I feel like this needs another edit to make it appropriate for here
I removed the "poll plz" part

Q: How can I delay an interview?

quimicaI am a chemist who has recently been contacted by a former supervisor to interview at her current company. My current company has strict deadlines (clinical trials) to meet and is reviewing all requests for paid leave. The company has denied several coworkers requests "for business reasons" (th...

seems like this question is rapidly picking up points still - even with only two answers

1:40 PM
@enderland It was my awesome edit.

woah those answers soon got votes, they were both 0'd when i last saw em

1:57 PM
@RhysW I dont know it is exactly what the OP asked for... If it was the OP of the question that put the answer then i would say yes.

@enderland hm 9 hours, two answers, votes and views are "just" reasonably good. Maybe. I haven't seen any official announcement yet though

@jmac It is a good edit but I think the OP was just overwelmed. I suspect once you boiled her question down she knew the answer her self
it is pretty obvious

@Chad Likely... (is it a her? I thought the boss was a her, but this is a him)

I suspect.. I do not know many guys who ramble on like that... but know lots of women... I know that sounds sexist but

2:28 PM
@gnat If this question is getting a lot more attention from the hot list, I think that is worse than the previous behavior. It currently has 30 points, 8 upvotes, 2 answers with a total of 18 upvotes, and is 10 hours old
@gnat (2 * 8 + 5 + 18) / 6 ^ 1.4 = 39 / 12.28 = 3 or so -- the equation has definitely changed.
@gnat Sorry, not worse. That is a lie (because it isn't a bad question and doesn't have bad answers). But I dislike hot questions in general. So perhaps it's just bias talking.
@rhys, @enderland, @chad (@et. al) -- do you think there would be merit to doing a bounty a day (week?) for the best edit on that day? Or would that encourage people to make stupid edits? Take the delay interview question above -- the effect of the edit is far greater than any answer I could have given, encouraging people to think of quality rather than rep could have good consequences (by encouraging them with rep)

@jmac "quality is better than rep, i will prove it by giving you rep"
something doesn't feel right about that! :P
i think that would encourage editing for the sake of editing, and not editing for the sake of genuine improvement
people will try to make massive overhauling edits to 'win'

@RhysW Yeah, I get that part. At the same time, I would post it on meta and in here (so the rabble wouldn't read it most likely), I wouldn't make it an 'absolute' (I would 'encourage' regular users to reward good edits with bounties on other answers by that person), and I wouldn't award it for gaming efforts (nor do I think anyone else would)

@jmac i think its sort of misusing the system
a new user might see that bounty and think 'wow this must have been a good answer to get rewarded' when really it was for a different reason

3:18 PM
I need 4 people to commit :p

@Chad already committed, sorry!

3:36 PM
@Chad I committed. but... just curious
:)

you committed and he fled the room xD

@jmac that was an awesome edit, though

4:04 PM
I'm going to get serial downvoting :(

@enderland why?

woah

I'm not sure what it takes to be answer banned but he's going to get it quick since almost all his answers are negative or 0

i wonder if it thinks its serial if more than one person agrees on most of them

4:13 PM
guess I'm glad I'm on the way to hitting the rep cap with a stupid answer

@enderland really? nice!

@RhysW this answer has 15 UVs so far and imo it's pretty bad. meh

A: How can I delay an interview?

enderland What is the best way to approach the company that wants to interview me about delaying the interview? Most companies should be flexible on this, did the company you want to interview not say, "what dates would work" or "does date XX work?" I think you are making this into a much bigger deal...

hehe mine is on it, i dont think its bad, its a straightforward answer to a straightforward question

well I guess I mean it's not really an answer worth 15 UVs. though, to be fai the question wasn't really profound

Q: Salary negotiated during interview - is it set in stone?

AnaAfter reading several posts here, I realized that negotiating your salary once you get an offer is a good practice. During an inteview I did last week for an entry-level job, the manager asked me about my salary expectations. Once he got the figure, he said they could not match it because they h...

this is a great question for a new person

@enderland indeed, i threw my vote at it, i hope it gets good answers

5:00 PM
@RhysW hmmm it's always weird to me when people accept answers so early

5:24 PM
@enderland yeah its a bit odd
i handed my notice in at work today, my boss looked like he was going to cry

@enderland Thank you
@enderland Looks like he spent alot of time at band camp
I want to create my own version of SE and I can disallow morons from posting :p

Q: How to get a controlling colleague to work collaboratively?

user10687I have a colleague who keeps interfering in my work. Basically, she is used to the place being smaller where she was in control and likes to order everyone else around. Up to now I have managed to keep out of her way but recently, she took it upon herself to redesign my processing systems. I am c...

can this be salvaged?

6:06 PM
@RhysW SE community manager here. Just wanted to drop by and thank you for the in-depth question evaluation write-ups you posted on meta. I love seeing that sort of involvement from "regular" users. :)

@RhysW I missed this - sad! I've had a couple people tell me I should try to get a position created for myself. Might investigate taking them up on that...

6:31 PM
@AnnaLear Much appreciated!
@enderland could be worth it, you do already seem to have a split role

:)

6:55 PM
I stole a box of pens from the office workroom today. However, I noticed that each of the pens had been replaced with an empty pen of a random assorted variety. It appears someone has already beat me to this box.

@Shiester most people usually take a pen or 2 home, any reason why you needed the full box?

@RhysW to fight off swashbuckling cutlass-wielding pirates who want to steal our stuff of course! The pen is mightier than the sword, so a box of pens must be an apocalyptic weapon!

Well, I can't argue with that type of logic I guess

7:29 PM
^^^ Has this been covered today?

7:55 PM
@JimG. haha

8:06 PM
@Shiester I would get security involved...

Q: Temp worker looking for full-time offer. How to approach?

KruugCurrently, I am working in a nice position within my field of study as a temporary worker. It has been discussed multiple times that my direct supervisor would like to bring me on full-time, and it sounded like the local HR personnel would as well, but the company just got recently acquired by a ...

Great question here
@AnnaLear Can we get rhys promoted to mod?
2

@Chad in theory

How about in practice?

In practice, the current mod team seems to be doing alright and doesn't need additional hands on deck.

8:28 PM
@Chad my ears are burning :P

@RhysW She said you suck so no
I was like no Rhys is great but she held out... sorry man

@Chad pahaha that definitely sounds like paraphrasing to me :P

She suggested that perhaps if you were willing to trade certian favors... but I told her no way you were far to ethical for any shenanigans like that

@Chad Doesn't bother me, will wait for the elections when we become public like everyone else!
@Chad :P I can't say i've seen this....almost playful side to you before chad!

I am serious... it was in the subtext...
@RhysW We wont be going public... we are like a 2000 era web app forever in beta

8:34 PM
writers is still a beta, they have been for 3 years, and they still have hope, so im sure us, a relative baby in the field, will make it!
a few more jmacs, michaels and joe strazzere's and we will be set
speaking of which i wonder what happened to @MichaelGrubey hopefully things are going better for him now

Dont forget meridith poor she can throw answers at every question too

9:31 PM
@Chad justquit answers? Anyone can throw crap like that. Heck I can throw justquit answers 20 a day - that's probably main reason why I am not doing so...

@RhysW I have seen lots of suggestions on meta to reward non-rep-rewarded behavior that way. I don't think it should be an issue so long as the answer is decent, no? It doesn't affect ordering at all, and we could award to the top answer that person has (which would likely be a decent one)
