DH.
DH.
00:23
YES

2 hours later…
02:45
@KevinvanderVelden oh god did you do the thing again?

5 hours later…
07:28
@DH. NICE
WANT
How did you get the slime?
@DH. yup :D
@Ieuan what thing? The thing with the squid spawning? Be glad it's not witch water (... and in your base)
@KevinvanderVelden the thing with the rows of cobble
Not yet
There's only one transfer node with 1 world interaction upgrade
But it's keeping up with the generation of things and stuff so it should be fine
I am sad railcraft tanks don't render =[
@KevinvanderVelden why? They're pretty cheap
Apart from you know.. the diamonds and stuff
@KevinvanderVelden then fix it
1) at work, 2) you're the dynmap person
07:49
if you have a grinder you don't need a drop shute
just a dark room where every block is covered by the grinder.
A grinder is 3 by 3
or in range of the well of sacrifice
My drop shute is as well
I thought it was 5x5
Internal/external
Ooh the grinder?
Right that was different wasn't it
Yup 5x5x4
Meh
However the thing above the drop shute is like 19x19 or something
And easily scaleable
So the massive thing into a grinder provides much more space for spawning
07:53
6 grinders will cover 25*6 = 150 blocks of spawnable area
and you can keep it out of AI range
6 grinders is also a lot of crafting steps
autocrafting ;)
Yes possible
But the vat is still a horrible thing to use
just 1 grinder with a 5x5 darkroom will get quite a few drops
especially in a sky block ;)
A 19 by 19 will get you even more things and fans don't require AI
07:55
but it's more lag
Compared to?
@KevinvanderVelden there's a recipe with milk and something cheap to get slime from a ex nihilo barrel
milk and dirt? something like that
just checked, water in the barrel and right click it with milk
@KevinvanderVelden simply killing them without needing to search the mobs in range for pushing + all the movement and collision of the mobs as they get pushed
08:03
ugh, my kinesis pipes aren't keeping my machines full of power
@Jochem needs more input or bottlenecked?
wow, apparently input
my capacitor is dry, because I'm out of fuel. totally didn't expect that
see you should always blame the right culprit
I'm autocrafting food fuel for culinary gens, it should've been enough, but I ran out of base components apparently
See, you should have gone with my giant farm idea
@ratchetfreak but is N machines checking the 19x19 area constantly more or less expensive than that?
08:14
AI is one of the most expensive things in minecraft
less, the grinder is quite smart in how it detects mobs
and collisions are always awful
keep an eye on the count down
it'll only check when it reaches 0
if it finds one it'll kill the mob and wait a few ticks and check again
if it doesn't find one it uses a longer timeout
I have the horrible feeling that my base is using all my diamonds to produce chipsets right now, but I'm at work so I can't check.
Well it's not like diamond chipsets aren't useful :D
08:18
@KevinvanderVelden Well no, but I also don't know what it would do if it had no where to put them.
Which I'm almost certain it won't.
@ratchetfreak preferrably one that does not explode
Also grinder needs power, why not go blood magic?
Need to try find a proper dynmap config folder
@Ieuan Is that the one you can see through a web browser?
@Ieuan because grinder is simple to craft and bloodmagic requires hours to get to a grinder
@Ieuan Oh right, yeah.
08:23
The pinned thing =p
Or, the pinned thing that is not discord
@KevinvanderVelden but blood magic is pretty fckn powerful and a grinder is just a grinder
Yes
Blood magic is on the to-do list
Not sure what the recipes for blood magic are in this pack but regardless it's probably worth it
@Ieuan you need to have some progress in thaumcraft, witchery, and botania to get the altar. Not much, just livingrock, manasteel, an alchemical furnace, and an attuned stone, but some
@Jochem Thaumcraft and botania is no problem
Witchery is impossible
08:31
@Ieuan it's a bit less fun
though honestly, I'm super done with thaumcraft research, myself... really not looking forward to having to do that more
@Jochem it looked like lots of fun when Direwolf did it on Forgecraft, but it's not nearly as fun when you try it yourself
@Jochem would be reasonable to get one of those skip all research books at spawn I'd say for who wants to skip it
I would not be opposed to that
yeah, same
Though it might be better to do the config thing where everything is bought with points
@KevinvanderVelden so just scan all the things?
08:33
I'd prefer the book, I also don't want to scan all the things
Massive warp from that though
Oh nice @KevinvanderVelden you actually changed the symlink in /root
Though massive warp can also be fun
hm, how about we do the easy-mode config and then a commandblock to give a ton of research points to whoever wants them?
Is there a command for that?
08:35
yeah
I say we do all the things
Put one book at spawn for who wants to completely skip it all and enable the easy research
/thaumcraft aspect <player> <aspect | all> <amount>
If I didn't have like a hundred other things to do first I would really like to get started with the magic mods.
isn't most of the setup of magic pretty cheap?
08:45
@ratchetfreak I'm sure it is, and I guess I could do it in between doing the hundred things I need to do.
well you will want a mana setup pretty early
Yeah that's true.
that's some white flowers for the living stone and wood at the very least
You do realize what modpack we're playing right?
That's several generations of crossbreeding to get to the flowers
there is a method to get the botania flowers directly
dire used it
08:52
I'll probably do the breeding anyway, for some reason I like doing that.
@ratchetfreak Hmmm
Changed the thaumcraft setup for easy research, you'll have to bug @KevinvanderVelden if you want him to spawn in the book for you or setup a command block
Currently at work though so =p
Also there's a command for it
but is it op only?
@ratchetfreak Should be
08:57
I should bloody well hope so =p
@KevinvanderVelden MC bitching about Java version, should I just go ahead and do a dist upgrade since it's just Minecraft running anyway or try get a backport working?
Asking you because @TimPost isn't here and you're probably the only other person who'd care
I haven't dared because it's not my server
@KevinvanderVelden yeah same, but right now it might actually start causing issues since we're on jre5 or 6 instead of 8
I dunno, I'd say go for it but it's not risk free
@KevinvanderVelden only real risk is rebooting once it's done which could knock it out and then we'd have to get @TimPost to fix it
Hmm
I'll send him an email
Email sent
Let's hope he reads it
@Ieuan just make sure you have a recent world backup
worst case scenario, we can put that up on a different server
@Jochem yeah I'm not going to do anything before Tim emails me back or gets on here and okays it anyway
But when I do give it a go I'll take a full backup first
And if it goes wrong I have about 8GB RAM left on my VM host so getting a different server up until Tim fixes it would be no problem
It's mostly CPU that's the problem =p
@KevinvanderVelden Honestly it's not that bad
Like we tested before, network was a way worse bottleneck than CPU
09:10
@Ieuan network isn't going to affect your TPS though
Still don't really get why it's throttling into those sawtooth patterns, it's like the server host doesn't like constant network usage
isn't that standard TCP probing?
climb slowly and back off by half as soon as a packet drops
@Jochem True but I've seen us at <15TPS with ~50% CPU usage too
@ratchetfreak could be but then there'd be packet loss right?
TCP resends lost packets
50% on one core, or 50% over all cores? also, that's more likely to be IO then
I can't see how network could possibly affect TPS. It's limited by IO and CPU, with more RAM being a potential cure for the IO part
09:13
@ratchetfreak alright, regardless we saw sawtooth patterns and low overall network traffic with lots of lag and no spiking CPU/RAM
When generating chunks and stuff
@Jochem Pretty sure that would be it
We maxed out the RAM but not the CPU
genning chunks is a disk-heavy operation
Not sure how linux or java or w/e handles that exactly but I can imagine constant IO because not enough RAM dropping the TPS more than high CPU usage
yeah, that happened on the server I ran as well. more ram fixed it. The server was swapping like crazy
GC and thrashing RAM
@ratchetfreak ... that would indeed explain
09:15
I think I went fro 2GB to 3GB and that was enough
@Jochem we're running on 1.5G now and I think we ran at a little more at some point but not a lot
@Jochem We had exactly the same problem a couple of years back with one of the arqade minecraft servers.
Well actually we fixed it by telling minecraft not to try and use literally 100% of the server RAM.
@Ieuan the problem is the actual amount of memory on the machine as well
Oh wait
That was a lie lol
java -Xmx6144M -Xms4096M -XX:MaxPermSize=1536M
@Ieuan skyblocks should need a bit less RAM, but if the server has more, we should up that once the TPS starts dropping
lol, that seems excessive :D I like it!
09:19
@Jochem not sure if @KevinvanderVelden did that or leftover from previous pack, but I approve
as long as the server can actually handle it of course :)
Only thing I changed is path and jar file to run, nothing else
Not sure if wasted resources or timesaver
you will probably end up throwing all the gold chests away when you get to AE
That's still a ways off though
At least several days to just run the bloody reactor
09:25
and then a few more days to UU replicate the irridium
@KevinvanderVelden why not multiple reactors at the same time?
@Ieuan I should have 32 of each chipset in stock at all time, so I wouldn't say that's overkill.
@Ieuan I 'unno. It's possible
I'm also planning on stocking like 16 of each machine frame.
09:26
@Ronan I've got a stack I think
the craftign required though
You only really need basic ones and resonant ones
@KevinvanderVelden Yeah, it's not difficult to scale up.
@Ronan I'm pretty sure you only need 2 machine frame types
@KevinvanderVelden That's true, once you can autocraft there's no point going half in.
09:26
(Well and IC2 but that's not what we're talking about)
And enderIO.
That as well
Curse you lumium
Or maybe not, I guess that's just crafting.
Oh no, lumium.
just keep a stock of lumium?
If it's really slow I can add it, or keep lumium stocked.
09:27
hell keep a stock of everything that requires more than 5 seconds to craft
Hehe yeah.
I've got 127 steel stocked automatically
Because that's what you could put in one slot
I'm not sure what to do about steel.
Oh and coal coke, can you make an autocraft that has two outputs?
not on logistics pipes
@Ronan coal coke only has one right?
09:29
a way to deal with that is to use gate conditions to stop an autostocked machine when threshhold is reached
actually, there's a crafting byproduct upgrade now I think
@KevinvanderVelden crushed obsidian
I haven't used it yet, but it has a crafting recipe so I assume it'll work
Ah
@Jochem i've not gotten that to work yet
@KevinvanderVelden Creosote oil.
09:30
it also cannot deal with chance outputs
@Ronan that's a fluid =p
@ratchetfreak nothing can =p
@KevinvanderVelden Logistics pipes can transfer fluid.
@KevinvanderVelden yeah it's something where you have to make it keep a stock ready
I typically deal with it by either playing the odds and just sending enough for 99% chance of getting it or just letting it autocraft all the time
09:46
Not sure how to automate this
I guess use steve's carts and MFR?
Automating trees or crops?
From the water I'd guess crops, then you only need an MFR harvester
@KevinvanderVelden crops
But I want to make something fancy and not just harvester and pipes
You require inefficiency?
@Arperum Yes
Also you don't need a planter for crops
09:54
I don't know if Steve's Carts harvesters are compatible with the agricraft crops
@Jochem I'd just use a cart to pick up the stuff from the MFR harvesters
@ratchetfreak I want it to be inefficient and pretty but still work so golems aren't really an option
Even a vanilla minecart is smarter than a golem
@Ieuan ah, then you don't need steve's carts, regular booster tracks and a chest cart would work
@Jochem I'd still need to set up stops and loaders right?
all doable with railcraft
I mean, if you want complicated...
10:04
@Jochem idk, I just want to have a minecart going around picking up stuff then dropping it off again
you don't need a locomotive for railcraft, you can just use this with certain types of track: ftbwiki.org/Item_Loader
or go for multiple minecarts and intersections and signals
Or go for 1 hopper minecart and weep as everything is tossed to the ground
yeah, direwolf20 is using a railcraft system for autocrafting that's just three tracks long, because it's one few systems that can deposit a set of items only when the full set is available
doesn't the item buffer in project red do something like that?
10:08
@Jochem Where is he doing that? :o
a recent episode
Which series =p
expert skyblock
I don't think he's automating botania on the serverplay series
@KevinvanderVelden it's a couple of episodes ago on the skyblock one, yeah
21-22 I think
10:10
it's for the botania runes. super inefficient, but it works. It requires a 5x5x5-ish area for every run, because the entire setup can only craft one recipe
it is possible to adjust it to only use one unloader and everything underneath
using rail signals to block more carts from unloading until the craft is done or distribute the crafting using switches
you'll need a ton of carts in the end though
oh there'll be issues when crafting runes that require other runes unless you disable the item pickup until the rune is crafted
DH.
DH.
10:44
@KevinvanderVelden Milk in a Water Barrel. Wait for it to spawn, if you're lucky enough you get big slimes then killing it will wield more slimeballs
Then craft the Congealed with a 2x2 square of slimeballs, and sieve it: 4% of getting the Slimy Sapling
or the slime from one of the MFR machines
or use a slime substitute
DH.
DH.
To get started with Botania, there's the Floral Fertilizer, no?
Agricraft is certainly the best way to get an infinite amount of it, but if one really wants to get at least a daisy, it's a worth shot
@DH. that's the one I was talking about
11:08
floral fertilizer -> Jaded Amaranthus, if it isn't disabled
you only need a couple of flowers to get infinite petals in botania
combine with the drum and a good range item pickup and you have instant infinite flowers
DH.
DH.
One question about this, because I never used this plant: Does this need a petal planted on the ground or the plants grows out from nowhere?
it needs grass
ok, never mind, jaded amaranthus takes a t3 bloodmagic slate
and then it works like bonemeal
11:11
so not a good way to get started
@DH. the amaranthus takes in mana, and spawns flowers on grass nearby
DH.
DH.
I've never played with blood magic, I only crafted the Orb and that's it lol
recipes are in NEI and the description of the rituals are in various places online
DH.
DH.
Ah I know, there's was even tons of books
I don't think there is a guide book for bloodmagic
DH.
DH.
I was only being very lazy, I prefer tech mods over magic, though I really liked fooling around with Botania
11:14
there are a ton for witchery though
DH.
DH.
Is it witchery that has over 3 books?
it has a few
DH.
DH.
I played with Witchery until I got a Rowan tree, didn't know what to do next
there's supposedly a book now, but I've never used it (for bloodmagic).
for the minimal just play around with the rest until you actually need something of witchery and then go for that
11:19
Witchery has a ton of "this is how this section of the mod works" books, but no real guide. What you need it for in this playthrough will mostly be NEI-able though
@ratchetfreak yeah, that :)
popets can be useful though. Is there one to let you keep your inventory on death?
I've never really used them much, though I know there's interesting ones
anti death and curse protection are the more useful ones for personal use and SSP IIRC
DH.
DH.
Hm... I was thinking here: Will I ever need a Skeleton Head? The not Wither one
I know Slice'n Splice uses heads, but I'll only need Zombie and Enderman ones, right?
general mob heads? you'll zombie and endermen for enderIO stuff
but for skellies and creepers I don't think so
DH.
DH.
11:27
Yeah that I was thinking
except to stabilize the infusion crafting
DH.
DH.
Infusion crafting?
thaumcraft
DH.
DH.
Never got to that point in TC lol
the large multi blcok structure with curves on it
well "large"
the essential bit is a 3x3x3 with some pedestals and jars around it
11:29
Isn't there like a 40 pedestal recipe in this pack?
for the infinite mana pool
That definitely falls under 'large' then.
but by the time you get that you shouldn't need any more mana
DH.
DH.
Well, I was asking this because I was thinking of getting one step forward and making my mob farm with Wtich Water instead of normal Water
This will turn Skeletons in Wither ones
@Ronan that's a creative item. It's a trophy to craft
11:30
@DH. but make creepers charged
You don't need that many for the general case
and various other effects which can be ... destructive...
DH.
DH.
@ratchetfreak The Nitro ones actually, the red ones you see on Nether
What can go wrong, really?
And it turns squids into ghasts
It also spawns squids
DH.
DH.
Ah fuck, true
11:31
no it'll make creepers behave as if they got hit by lighting
@KevinvanderVelden So nothing else goes above the normal ~10?
super sizing the explosion
@Ronan I don't recall the max, but yeah the 40 pedestal one is the only one of that size
you'll be building a whole setup for just that one craft anyway
Also yeah I should totally make my spawner have witch water in it
DH.
DH.
11:33
I can test it later today, but I'm pretty sure Creepers become Nitro ones when you have Natura in the pack
Do we have natura in the pack though? I don't think so
I've seen charged creepers on dires videos (or was it soaryn's stream?)
Also I'm fairly sure those just explode fast, soaryn proved it was a big explosion
DH.
DH.
Nitro ones explode in half of the time and the explosion is a bit bigger
if you go for the witchwater keep it above y = 64 (or whatever level squids spawn at)
DH.
DH.
11:35
Charged ones explode radius is bigger than a TNT though, so Charged ones are worse than the Nitro one
I'm pretty sure they just become charged
The question is moot anyway
Skyblock does not contain natura
DH.
DH.
Oh, ok then, no Nitro ones, that's why they become Charged then
They probably removed to be an easier way to not generate those annoying Cloud blocks :P
Also it's mostly a world gen mod
and there is no world gen
11:38
Why would you need a world gen mod?
so adding all the resources it would gen into the ex * configs would be tedious
and ultimately not worth it
DH.
DH.
To make Nether Fortress more dangerous
And to have those giant spiders so I could craft the Flamestring bow stuff
which nether fortress?
nether is a void
DH.
DH.
I thought that structures would still be generated
no the entire point of a sky block is to start with next to nothing
DH.
DH.
11:43
I know, I played Skyfactory 2 and it had fortress
Ofc, only the fortress so the best way to explore it is with a Jetpack much like you would search a Meteor
12:22
Someone help me find a dynmap renderdata config for this pack
Or just as many 1.7.10 mods as possible

1 hour later…
DH.
DH.
13:25
It would be awesome if there was an IE render for the dynmap
@DH. mods need to either very specifically supply dynmap rendering instructions or dynmap needs to have them added
But it seems like barely any mods are in this version of dynmap and apparently this pack uses mostly mods that dynmap doesn't like
like chisel
DH.
DH.
By the stupid amount of blocks chisel adds it would be reasonable that Chisel isn't being drawed
13:52
@DH. chisel is actually the easiest to fix since you can just automatically pull all the textures out and give them to dynmap
I really like github's &utf8=✓ parameter
@Ieuan that's hilarious
@Jochem the best part is that it's theoretically failproof
does the X work in reverse?
Unless a browser's rendering engine does not support the same as the URL bar
@ratchetfreak you mean linux X?
@Ieuan eeeehhhh, I generally find that nothing concerning UTF-8 is really foolproof
13:59
@Jochem Well yeah but if that parameter is failing you can be pretty sure that client does not support UTF-8
no I mean if you pass an X instead of the checkmark will it disable utf-8
@ratchetfreak I'm assuming anything that it just does a GET utf8 ==
DH.
DH.
14:11
Is there any better way to extract itens from an inventory other than Transfer Nodes? My Gravel-Sand-Dust resource production is almost done but it sucks how I need to put these transfer nodes on each machine(Auto Sieve -> Compressor -> Hammerer)
@DH. LP, servo's on a itemduct, bc pipes with redstone engines / autarchic pulsers, retrieval nodes
For speed it's hard to beat upgraded transfer nodes
but logi pipes will get close
DH.
DH.
Hm... I don't think that using Logistics pipes just to get stuff from a machine to other is wise, I think I'll stay with Transfer Nodes
well it'll let you auto sort the sieve output
DH.
DH.
Well, I have a buffer chest to split what needs to go to a compressor and what don't
My future LP will need to connect to 4 chests basically: the 3 buffer ones and the Ore Dusts in the final chest
14:24
@Ieuan Oh, they gave me a uft8 cross, I guess they don't know what utf8 is then.
14:34
That iron is 738 ingots
This is going to take way too long :/
DH.
DH.
Just let a Redstone clock on a Casting Basin
Do other stuff, and let it flow alone, in a few minutes it should already gone at least half of it
And by seeing your Smeltery it remembers me how I hate Aluminum and how useless it is
@DH. I have one on a casting table now but I think I might just switch them around
any other fluid moving method to casting basin
or to mulitple casting basins
seriously the smeltery is just a fancy tank no need to stay with its faucet
@ratchetfreak not much other options in this pack
I mean liquid transfer node would work fine
very much better than the faucet
I'm really not helping my case
or the TE ducts
14:47
@ratchetfreak fluxducts?
fluidducts
I'm surprised there's no casting mod to improve TiCo's casting mechanics
it's all liquids anyway
@ratchetfreak hardened glass :/
buildcraft waterproof pipes
best early game is probably EnderIO tanks
liquid transfer node filtered to several enderIO tanks set to auto output to the casting basins and something to pull out of the casting basins
