@MonicaCellio Just wondering: shouldn't there be a feed message about the new blog post from Future? I can see that you edited the Blog Meta Post and the link seems to work, but I don't see any feed message to star in this room or the Factory Floor.

@Secespitus yes, there should have been. Hmm. I checked right after updating meta and it wasn't here yet, but sometimes they take an hour or two so I didn't think that was unusual, and then I forgot to check back. Thanks for pointing it out. I'll manufacture a stand-in.

Q: New blog post: Cuban Missile War (Introduction) (previous: Golden Sails, Part 1)

@Future Did you publish your post first on your own account instead of adding it to the Universe Factory Publication? On the post it says that it was created on 07.12. while the Meta post has been edited yesterday

More or less, yes.

I am not sure how to interpret that, but I could imagine that publishing on your own account and later getting the story published on Universe Factory might have messed with the feed. For example if you look on the main page from UF here you can see that Cuban Missile War and Golden Sails 1 were published on the same day - but Cuban Missile War was published before Golden Sails !, which might be the reason there was no "new" post in the feed.
At least that's how it looks to me.

@Secespitus I think that's it, yes. If you're willing to hold off on publishing to your own followers, it's best to let the publication in UF be the first publication, instead of publishing on your own profile and then adding to UF. It appears that Medium does all its date-reckoning from first-publication date, not when it was added to UF, affecting both the ordering on the front page and RSS feeds.
