@MartinBüttner Think I might have some fun tonight and dig up Golfish's source. I've dropped the goal of making it a golfing lang, but I do really want a "><> that's easier to use"
Gonna steal the int input from Lab

@Sp3000 you're welcome to do so ;)

Thanks :) Trying to decide whether float input's more useful though, and if so how to handle a case like 123.456.789

. turns ints into floats and is a NOP on floats?

I mean if 123.456.789 was STDIN input, and you used the read int/float instruction (e.g. one behaviour could be to interpret 123.456 as a float, and stop reading once it hits the second dot)

oh I see
yeah I think that makes most sense

9:54 AM
k, will do :)

@MartinBüttner Hmm I'm running into a bit of a problem with the number input actually
? in Labyrinth pushes 0 on EOF, but the input could be 0 as well
Is there anything that distinguishes the two cases?

1 hour later…
12:56 PM
@Sp3000 no there isn't

Hm...

add a null type? :P

Ahaha no thanks :P
I'll keep it as -1 I guess, that way it at least distinguishes for nonzero inputs
(Although, speaking of null types I should probably do something about the complex numbers you get from exponentiation...)

Urgh, Heroku problems :(

I've never used Heroku

I got the interpreter to work (golfish.herokuapp.com) but I've somehow broken it and can't update it any more

how does that work under the hood? does it send the program to some server, where it's run and the output is sent back?

I assume so. DJango's involved somewhere, though I don't really know what that is

I think it's a web app framework, like Rails

2:44 PM
Well from my point of view, I commit, it builds, and ta-da
... plus the occasional frustration of things not working right, but usually pretty good
I chucked everything out, pulled the repo and magically things work again
btw did you ever get a good answer for your do-while loop question?

nope... I need to get back to some comments on that
there is a proposed conversion on esolangs (the BF talk page)

Hmm k...
Yeah I was wondering because I used to have while loops in Golfish until I realised I had no idea where to jump to if the while loop doesn't run
Seems like the BF talk page discussions lasted as long as the comp sci SE post :P

3:00 PM
;)
well, and feersum claims to have a working translator

Oh? :o

yeah... I don't remember if he posted it here or in the 19th byte though

Do you know what the {} braces are in feersum's program?

well, the do-while loop of BF*, I'd assume?

Ah, right
Hmm either my interpreter's wrong, or feersum's program isn't working :/

1 hour later…
4:18 PM
If it wasn't for the last test case I'd have 22 for task 7 in Golf><> :D (no hope on most of the other challenges though)
Oh you updated yours - nice :P
@MartinBüttner 9: q_{_')>+)}%W%+_W%N@N3$ is that right?

1 hour later…
5:38 PM
@Sp3000 oh right, thanks

Huzzah 9 problems :P

:)
I think the most promising tasks for further shortening are 8, 12, 6
