@Evil logic, self reflection, introspection, rationality etc is largely a function of the neocortex afaict. have been musing on this lately. it appears in many ways freuds id, ego, superego correspond roughly to mammalian brain, cortex, neocortex. ... and is now known (recently!) neocortex is the last to develop, even into mid20s. defn know ppl who fit that category of "seemingly not fully developed neocortex," have been musing on that also lately... o_O

@vzn I preffered the suicidal or depressed people therapy. It felt right, giving some hope and satisfaction. But this is kind of pointless. It is far too hard to recover from years of mutual bad treatment with good will on both sides. But of course there is no good will.

@Evil it does seem like some ppl might be better off splitting up and think it is now std for therapists to say that to one/ other/ both. there is debate in the therapy community about "marriage positive" therapy or something like that. etc. was shocked myself to hear one therapist say this: "maybe you are in the wrong relationship" o_O ... there is also a lot of question about marriage institution in general in last ~½ century in which its chgd dramatically...

@vzn doctors are far superior in that matter, they really do point-blank controversial opinions.

@vzn Well, as far as there is any hope, and for some reason they want try, it is good thing to do. But the inner itch feeling that it would be far better if they started this good will and all getting together like years earlier.

@Evil one community calls it "new relationship energy" and there does seem to be distinct mating vs long-term partner behavior in all humans.... suspect there is definitely some biological element here that is not very well explored/ understood yet. aka evolutionary psychology. long noted informally, think there is a definite scientific basis.

@vzn there ae dozens of reasons for this "new energy", some not explored for sure. But the old logistic equation for love with attractors seems to give quite good explanation about cyclic, not necessary in same phase, changes.

@vzn I recently thought about nice, of course the best, way to handle it. It worked. Just the plot differs a bit than the sequence, and then after several thousands of steps decides to crash land.

It is fascinating how probabilistic ANN works. Some time ago I was biased towards such algorithms, but they work and work very fast. With proper epsilon it is no longer approximate to me, but still speeds up.

Does anyone have recommendations for books/resources on introduction to machine learning that are accessible to people with little/no CS background (me)?

I want to incorporate Machine Learning into the project I'm working on.
