Hi, what's a good resource to learn computer science at home?

the word "Computer Science" is a very broad one.
What are you interested in? theory/practice? A specific language? A specific area?

I think I want the fundamentals good, I do know programming but most of the people always say that knowing javascript or python doesn't help and that you should learn C or C++ to truely understand computers etc
And also to get good grasp on Algorithms, Data structures etc

Go for C or C++ indeed. Find a course online

Okay cool

super quite and calm

@buoyantair Yes, definitely algorithms and data structures are very fundamental to CS. Unfortunately, I am not sure what a good introductory book would be. There are a few courses online which may be more appropriate than books for your case. Eventually, pick a book or a pdf later as supplementary material.

@nbro how are you?

Hey dude
fine, and you?

fine, still trying to solve something in the homework lol.

Ahah, yes, sometimes homework can take a long time to finish

Tell me about it >_<
That's bad. I should be researching

12:45 PM
Sometimes you don't plan well how much time you need to finish a homework...
I think I still need to find a better way of working
eheh

for us masters students the most critical thing is time management
dont you agree?

I am not the most organized person in the world, that's probably one of my biggest defects

do it like me
use Google Calendar

@TheNotMe Yes, I probably have to agree with you

@Evil The 3rd might look weird, but is indeed correct, right?

12:50 PM
Yes, but even worse than being not very well organized is not having discipline :D
Anyway, tell me about which types of questions do you have in your work. I am curious to know the difficulty of your homework
Btw, how many questions do you usually have in your homework? And how much time do professors and TAs leave you to finish them?
Of course, this may vary from course to course. It depends on how much the course is worth. But you can give examples.

1:44 PM
I only take one course per semester -- most of the time goes to research
This course for example asks (and this is one of the questions in my homework) to develop an algorithm that generates a random subset of {1,...,n} proportional to its size
Many combinatorial questions

@TheNotMe Strange that you can do that during all semesters.

what do you mean

You're doing a master, not a Ph.D., so I don't understand why they let you just follow one course during each semester. In my case, I have to obtain a certain number of ECTS to go to the next semester, etc, and to obtain them I need to follow and pass courses...
I usually need to follow and pass 5 to 6 courses, unless there's a special course which is worth more than 6 ECTS (for example, a thesis).

No, I must total around 7 courses.
But I did most of them in my first year.
And now it is my second.
So I ended up this year of having to do 1 course per semester

Oh, ok
I don't know the workload that you had for those courses, but it looks like you have been a bit lucky to just have to follow 7 courses during one year :D
I wish I could do that!

5:52 PM
But $7$ GIANT courses.

Do you also have in your country a way to measure the workload of courses, like the ETCS for us?

"Academic points"
4-5 -> very heavy
1 -> seminar-like
2-3 -> medium
