3:09 AM
I called Donald Trump an a** on twitter. I hope it doesn't have repercussions.

@EthanBierlein I don't think you're the first

@EthanBierlein I think that would only happen if you actually commended him.

@EthanBierlein I don't care for him either, but I'm sure he could teach you a lot of things.

But I did it twice, in the span of an hour, both tweets also would have given him a notification of the tweets because I did @user.

Meanwhile, El Chapo's son called him something even worse.

3:12 AM
*snerk* google-fu engages

@EthanBierlein eh, the worse that could happen is that he somehow gets your Twitter account burninated.

lol
That would suck though
A lot

I don't think it would.
At least, it wouldn't for me.
But, I'm not going to get it burninated for anything but inactivity, like as not.

Yeah, but I use my twitter account to stay in contact with some of my friends, so, yeah...

@EthanBierlein dude, the guy's got money and power, but not the time to hunt down every Twitter account that's calling him an a**.. no worries there

3:16 AM
It wouldn't look good for his campaign.

lol yeah

But, I can't say it looks good on your campaign either, so...

Maybe I'll hunt him down instead.

I'd just leave it at that

Menu > Discussion > End

3:17 AM
I for one hope that he makes it to the primary debates. It's gonna be so entertaining.

I've not been following politics, but anyone know what happened with all that money Hilary stole while Secretary of State?
Why don't we move this to the Nth?

^^

Fair enough

Oh crap. I'm out of snacks.

mumble mumble webchat is so much more awkward than IRC

6 hours later…
9:22 AM
I know about Joel
When that gay thing went down on StackOverflow, he posted an answer on meta

Gay thing?

Something about gay rights in the U.S.A.
Then changed the StackOverflow logo to a rainbow

You reduced that to "gay thing"? -.-

Yes, why?

Never mind

9:25 AM
I still don't get it...

I know, so forget about it

Can you please ping me and explain it on The Nth monitor?

No.

If I offended you in any way, it would be a good idea to explain it. Or is it something private that you don't want to share here?
Greetings

@JohnSnow - political discussions probably don't belong here :P I can see your frustration but I suggest you drop it and/or take it up with @IsmaelMiguel in private chat like he suggested.

9:40 AM
I just want to understand what the heck I did wrong...
Was it because I called it "gay thing"?

@IsmaelMiguel yes.

@IsmaelMiguel Yeah.
It's a bit of a bigger deal than a 'gay thing' to people who it actually affects

or to people who care deeply about it

As I said though, I don't really think we should be having a political discussion here. If you wanna talk more about it, create a separate room and Il'l join in :-)
@SimonAndréForsberg agreed, I am personally not gay but I have many friends and colleagues who are, so I fight their corner because I know how much it means to them

@SimonAndréForsberg Can you move this to The Nth monitor, as suggested? If not, I'll make a room or something.
@DanPantry To me, and to my best knowledge, it was something that happened related to gay right, in the U.S.A.
If I came here celebrating the 25th April, would you even care about it?

9:44 AM
@IsmaelMiguel It was the supreme court over-ruling all of the (mostly republican) state rules in the US preventing gay marriage and thereby the SCOTUS recognising that gay people are equal to other people, regardless of sexual orientation, and that they should be allowed to be married (and therefore miserable like the rest of us). That's a pretty big mile stone because it sets a trend for all western countries to follow.
@IsmaelMiguel No, I probably wouldn't. But I would be respectful of your celebrations and not downplay them.
I think it was just unfortunate wording on your part to use the words "gay thing" because it is so, so much more important than that.

I should mention that I'm British and so the SCOTUS don't actually affect me, but it was a huge landmark to see the SCOTUS giving their children states the effective finger and setting a precedent.

Honestly, it isn't something that keeps me awake at night
This will sound like an ass
But, if gay people want to marry, just let them freaking marry!

Well, I agree with you
A lot of people do
Unfortunately, plenty of states in America were ruled by die-hard... religious.. people, who seemed to think their religion should influence everyone else's life and affect the law.
The ruling was essentially SCOTUS recognizing that it should make secular laws, which is pretty big

10:06 AM
@DanPantry Now I see why he got mad... But still, it isn't a big deal for me and a while ago it was just something related to gay right that happened in the U.S.A.

@IsmaelMiguel I can see why it wasn't a big deal for you, but the words 'gay thing' make it seem like you are downplaying/shrugging it off

Thing because it was something

The best thing you can do is use language-neutral terms - "wasn't that to do with gay marriage" would have been fine
it was something
but it wasn't just any other normal thing that happened
it was a landmark decision

But I didn't knew what thing

in the same way that you wouldn't refer to WW2 as 'that war thing'
I do sympathise with you :) I can appreciate you didn;t know what it is

10:08 AM
But that's world war

as I said, it was just an unfortunate usage of words

How else could I say it?

> wasn't that to do with gay marriage

"It was something related to some stuff about gay right or something"?

also you could easily argue that anything the SCOTUS does essentially end up affecting the entire western world
America tends to set precedents like that

10:10 AM
I have no idea what SCOTUS is
It sounds like "scouts" misspelled

Supreme Court of the United States
It is the court that made the ruling and it is also the highest court in the US.
If the SCOTUS makes a ruling, EVERY state in the US has to listen to them

I had no idea of that
But, honestly, to me, it really doesn't have much value
That is, to me
But I can see why he was mad about it
I'm against gay stuff (by stuff, I mean everything)
In fact, it's repulsive

I respect your opinion

But I respect if they want to marry and all that

My grandparents also do not see eye to eye with gay people
However they also do not enforce their views on others - and thats exactly what states were doing

10:14 AM
It's different

as long as you understand why he was pissed thats all that matters really

not to say he is right or wrong in being miffed by what you said
but at least you understand his POV

It really wasn't a fortunate wording, but I didn't had any better
Either I would say that

Don't need to apologise to me :P

10:16 AM
I'm not
Do you think that this will give me chat ban?

10:49 AM
@DanPantry Actually I was dropping it when he kept insisting we keep on talking in private. :P

@IsmaelMiguel no :-) we aren't that strict. It was just a misunderstanding and I'm sure even if it got anywhere near that the mods could see your isde.
@JohnSnow I was aware of that but I figured it woudl be a good idea to iron out the detaeils

@JohnSnow I just wanted to know what I did wrong, so I don't repeat it
@DanPantry See my isde?

@DanPantry My 'no' was supposed to be the end of it :P
And I wasn't pissed if you were talking about me
I don't get pissed

@JohnSnow it was a figure of speech, I wasn't actually suggesting you were angry :-)
@IsmaelMiguel side

@DanPantry I doubt. Moderators aren't here to 'see sides'. They are here to take actions.

10:56 AM
by weighing all of the evidence from both parties.

Which would result in me being banned. Why? Because of how I spoke about it and probably because Jamal hates me for picking on his edits

I think you're being a bit too paranoid, friend.

@DanPantry Well, there were no angry or upset feeling. If anything, disbelief.
Maybe because you keep taking things too OT? :P

Put an 'over' on it! I'm always paranoid!

I'm admittedly guilty of OT

10:59 AM
@JohnSnow OT?

I'm trying to change that
Off Topic

Anything is on-topic here, unless it is too specific and about code

Well, I thought you said you got banned in the 2nd monitor
What happened to the water cooler?

I didn't got banned. I don't want to get banned

Wasn't that a good chat to move the off topicness to?

11:01 AM
It's not that.
I don't want to get banned because of how I spoke about gay marriage

It's a political thing.
therefore there is no right or wrong answer, it's an opinion
You won't be banned on CR for having an opinion.

Unless you target a minority with hateful speaking, it's fine to have whatever opinion you want.
2

Jamal hates me, he probably would love to see me banned

Jamal won't bann you for no good reason

@IsmaelMiguel I'm sure he doesn't.
And even if he does hate you
He's not corrupt.

11:03 AM
I find him to be very tolerate and understanding.

He isn't going to ban you for personal reasons.

I got banned once for 30 minutes because I said to fill a house with lead
Shotgun lead
(I didn't said about shooting it!)

That is the implication though
if I walk into a store with a balaclava I'm going to be treatedl ike I'm going to rob the store even though I haven't done it yet
or have no intention of donig it

Maybe I should add; you should not target ANYONE specificly with threats or hateful speech. Even as a joke.
2

^
That wasn't because he hates you. that's because you broke the rules.

11:06 AM
And that's why I'm worried I might get banned

You already got your punishement
you need to commit a new rule breaking case to get another punishment.

11:51 AM

12:14 PM
Just so they can deal with the whole page situation without us takling over thenm

I'm like never here

It's new, so neither am I xD
@skiwi just read a question on SO where someone wanted to store a JavaSCript function in a cookie and then execute that javascript from another page..

"I have a section on a website that has multiple pages which are accesed with ajax. I'd like to run a js function that is stored in a cookie so that i can refresh the content of my page after doing some modifications from several select boxes"
Why not just... store the data to pass to the function instead
you're a java man right?

Q: Calling methods from the constructor

rmaikI wrote the below code, and as you see, in the constructor I call some methods to perform certain operations. And now what I am inquiring about is, whether it is a good practice to call those methods from the constructor OR declare those methods as public and instantiate an object from the class ...

@DanPantry What's up with that question, you've already answered it.

I wanted a 2nd opinion

Your answer looks good, states the important facts. What he's trying to do is not what he should be doing.

I haven't used Java in donkeys years, so

It's taking the wrong approach and a typical XY problem. He's trying to implement a solution which doesn't solve is problem. He just moved the problem.

12:32 PM
> He just moved the problem.
if you looked up "programming patterns" in a dictionary
you'd see that :P

@DanPantry Yeah... and also a busy man ;)

@skiwi sorry :P I should be updating this documentation myself....

@JohnSnow Why did you change your name anyway?

@mast hodor
(who was JohnSnow?)

Gemtastic

12:38 PM
Ah

And what does Hodor have to do with anything?

John Snow is a character from Game of Thrones.
hodor is a character from Game of Thrones that only says Hodor
he's something of a meme

@Mast Because I know nothing

@DanPantry Yea, I googled it. But what does he have to do with the conversation?

"You know nothing, Jon Snow" is a meme from GoT

12:41 PM
Oh, they're both GoT thingy.

Never got around watching that show.

Neither did I
but I know the memes :(
Reddit is a blessing and a curse

Currently watching Stargate with my wife :-)
Just finished SG-1, now in S1 of Atlantis

"people who are not actively building the Code Review community"
I feel that discussing hodor and stargate is very much community building
:^)

12:43 PM
CR consists of many communities, with overlap.
Sometimes they shouldn't be talking in the same room.

One of my colleagues just put Blink182 on in the office
Many people are complaining right now lol

I don't know that band.

Fairly old song,, I think it's older than me..
Not quite - it's ~16 years old

@DanPantry Why are they complaining?

I guess some people don't like blink182
(myself included)

12:52 PM
Which song?

all the small things

I don't dislike, but I'm not an overly-attached fan anyway
That one is alright

XD
90s nostalgia

@DanPantry Async JavaScript, right up your alley?

Q: Nested SQLite transactions in jQuery

TimoI'm using Cordova with jQuery and jQuery Mobile to develop a hybrid app. In this app I need to save data that I get from a server. The data is a JSON. I chose this SQLite plugin for Cordova to save the content in tables for easy access. I make an AJAX-GET call to get the data I need and call the...

12:54 PM
I generally don't like when people play their music loud.
Even if I like the songs played I think it's invasive.

Found a headphone, now I'm going to try that band and see if it sounds familiar
Oh, that...
That song reminds me of that song in Eurotrip.
Scotty doesn't know

I don't remember it

The movie itself isn't that old.

I know

The Matrix is older. Everything younger than The Matrix isn't old IMHO.
For movies, that is.

1:03 PM
But Matrix is alright
I like it

Does a dedicated Python chat exist? I can't find it.

for Code Review?

@Mast I've got that open in another tab. When I'm doing with the bureaucratic rubbish I have to do ATM I'm going to review it.

@DanPantry Just finished my bureaucratic BS.
@Malachi If possible, but SO/Programmers is also fine.
Also, has everyone read the latest what-if yet? It has been up for a while now.

@Mast Not my thing. I'm not into xkcd

1:20 PM

I don't get it

You'd have to read the rest to get it.
It's like a reverse cliffhanger.
Trailer perhaps.

It's hard to understand

"Here's the good news: NASA will have to pay for your car"
lol

@DanPantry That, and clean up the neighbourhood.
It may or may not be worse than Fukushima.
Probably worse though.
