Q: Is NTFS file system supported on Huawei u8160?

Mohamed EssamI have a Huawei u8160 running Cyanogenmod 7.2 . I have a 500GB portable hard drive which is file system is NTFS , I connected the hard drive using OTG the phone didn't recognize it at all. So I was wondering if my Android system supports NTFS? and if it doesn't how can I make it supported? ...

12:19 PM
From above -- below here people rather try to shout :)
Besides that: Check Google from time to time: NTFS Android, your answers are all on page 1 of that simple query. Hope you accept my answer to your question and upvote it -- in that case a real big thank you for those easy to answer ones ;)
@MohamedEssam ^^

12:55 PM
@Izzy thanks NTFS&HFS+ worked
and about the portable hard drive?
I connected it ,the phone didn't see it all

1:26 PM
@MohamedEssam You need to compile and load either the NTFS kernel module for linux or the fuse driver for NTFS to access a NTFS formated partition

@Flow when I do the "ls /dev/block/" command it doesn't return any ub** devices
but when I connect a flash drive that is NTFS formatted it sees it normally

So you are already able to read NTFS formated partition with your android device
next step: use lsusb to assure that the usb device is recognized by the kernel

Any nandroid experts around? Is nandroid the "backup" option is CWR?

@Flow It was when I used it last time
;)
Which CWR version? I'm not sure with 6.x+

Then I think I did just my first nandroid backup
6.X

Congrats!

So nandroid is subset of cwr?

Oh -- they changed something there, I did not yet understand what. Looks like incremental stuff -- and that's a different format then.
Spell it NANDroid -- and you get the idea
Backup of the NAND flash.

2:07 PM
Have you ever wondered which question got the most views on an.sx?

It started as separate scripts on XDA (guess something like figuring out the right partitions, and run dd)

Q: "MTP USB Device" driver error (screenshot) when connecting my Galaxy S to my PC in Kies mode -- How can I resolve this problem?

Fitri I always got this error when trying to connect my Galaxy S to my PC in Kies mode. I can connect it as "Mass storage" with no problem. But I need to connect with Kies mode to get 2.2 (froyo), but I always get this error. What is this error and how can I correct it? I have Windows 7, Galaxy S 2....

Urgs
Master Trash Protocol...

Yeah, but it looks like it's a Samsung fail

Yeah, it has its advantages -- but it should not replace the other one.
Ah. So no native drivers on Mac, is that also Samsung fail?
UMS is supported on most systems. MTP is not. And, last but not least, I'm not sure whether MTP is fully free of MS patents...

2:11 PM
I just think that Samsung has an bug within the MTP implementation of the SGS, that is all.
I am even not aware what UMS is

And as for "Samsung fail": They have the most Android devices around, so its more noticed.
Usb Mass Storage -- something you probably use from time to time :D
UMS mounts the entire device (basically like a card reader).
MTP just sits "in between" and gives access on the logical level.

Yeah but MTP doesn't want to replace UMS
But I don't like MTP either

So no access to "deleted blocks" with MTP. No recovery of "accidentally deleted files".

what we really need is a protocol that allows access to the filesystem to both, the host and the client
and neither UMS nor MTP provide that is a clean manner

And in combination with "who needs SD-Cards": For me, a horror.
That's true. Why else it is recommended to copy the card on a PC with a card reader (when upgrading).
And since Zuul is sleeping, why the heck do we communicate in English? Only Germans left here ;)
Oh -- left, I have to leave for a few minutes...

2:15 PM
I will be away soon too

2:44 PM
Zuul awakes from the dead!
@Izzy English all around please, otherwise Google Translate will become my dearest friend :D

@Zuul or become confused xD
I mean the Google trans, not you -- though it would have the same results probably xD

3:12 PM
@Flow it doesn't get detected

with lsusb?

and dmesg shows also nothing?

I don't know
I think it is too big to handle
I'll see about the dmesg

dmesg/the kernel/the usb subsystem should at least notice that there is a device plugged in an USB port

3:29 PM
dmesg noticed it
I'll give you what it says just wait a sec.
@Flow it says : "<6>[1162, bhostcontroller]8364.848351] msm_hsusb msm_hsusb: portchange USB_SPEED_FULL"

Thats strange, usb devices are then usually show up then noticed in lsusb
But I have to go. Cya all

4:03 PM
@Flow when your return : it's been detected in lsusb and ls /dev/block but it doesn't want to get mounted

4:32 PM
@Flow : it said : mount : cannot mount /dev/block/uba on /sdcard/data : no medium found.

2 hours later…
6:37 PM
May his medium have multiple partitions? wondering

Perhaps!
I use a hammer every time I take too long to solve an issue :D

@Zuul If you've got a hammer, every problem looks like a nail, huh? xD

:D
