One fun way to promote your community is to consider what upcoming conferences, seminars, conventions, events, or meetups appeal to your community and would be a good opportunity to attract new, high quality users who love this stuff as much as we do!

There are a bunch of ways the community team can support you in this; to date we’ve done the following.

One way to promote your community is to have a one-page color flyer available to hand out to interested folks at events. We’ve created a few of these already, such as this one for gis.stackexchange.com …

Q: Where are the 'stock wallpapers' stored on the htc Desire S?

JezI just bought an htc Desire S, which runs Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). I can connect to FTP via BLuetooth's OBEX file transfer, or download one of the many file manager apps on the app store. But one thing is driving me crazy. When you 'Personalize', you get 'Scene', 'Wallpaper', and 'Skin' as t...

@GAThrawn @MatthewRead Any idea about this wallpapers one?
it seems amazingly difficult to get at those stock wallpapers. i want to get one and customize it a little. then i can upload it to the gallery and set it as the new wallpaper hopefully

@Jez At a guess they're hidden somewhere in the System partition. I would also guess that HTC don't particularly want you to extract and/or modify them. The wallpapers are part of HTC's marketing and brand image for the devices, they don't want you subverting their brand, or making other phones look more like theirs.

boo hoo
it's my phone, screw htc

@Jez Best bet on getting the extracted wallpaper files would be to hunt around the relevant forum on forum.xda-developers.com someone there is bound to have done it already or will know how to

@GAThrawn what on Earth does XDA stand for?

@Jez I think XDA was the model name of an old PDA/phone that HTC used to manufacture as an OEM and phone companies sold it under their own brand (HTC used to be mainly a contract manufacturer, it's only the last few years that they've started manufacturing and selling phones under their own name). I think the XDA Devs site started as a group of people hacking on that phone, then later moved onto hacking all HTC phones and these days they cover most Android phones both HTC and not.

Has anyone used HTC wildfire,I think its resolution is not good :(

@ManjotSingh The Wildfire is pretty much a cut-down, lower cost version of the Desire. So yes it has a lower screen resolution, though it also has a smaller screen so it doesn't always look like the resolution is lower. It also has a slower processor (pretty much the same one as the old HTC Hero, I think). Whether either of those are a problem for you depends how you want to use it, I'm sure for a lot of people mainly using it as a phone and texting it won't make any difference to them.

I usually test my Android app on HTC wildfire, app looks fine on emulator but doesn't look good on HTC wildfire and its touch is also poor I think so then.

@ManjotSingh You can change resolution settings on the emulator to match different phone models, you should be able to pick one on there that matches the Wildfire's 240x320 QVGA resolution.

Ya,I 'm doing that also
