It's not a bad idea @AlEverett, but be careful not to break their copyright
so paraphrase it
but I'm hoping for a new feature where you can seed questions under one account, so I don't have to post them under my own name
it feels wrong to ask a lot of questions and especially if they're 'easier' ones it be weird as a top user to start asking them
so I want some community user-ish account for asking questions to seed sites

@IvoFlipse I like the seeding idea.

woehoe! at least somebody does ;)

hah... you've asked it on so meta?
getting resistance so far?

no I haven't yet
just know that some people oppose seeding alltogether
well sorry to break it to them
not every site is a rockstar like SO
rocking MSDN contracts and stuff

it's a partially migrated beta site... does that mean an email went out to all former gadgets users? could we ping some of them back?
i see a lot of ghost images
dead accounts

no, I don't think they will want to do that
and really, there are enough android users in the world, that we can do without them
but how to get them
and keep them when they're here
that's a tricky question

5:14 PM
the android tag on SO is already "owned" but if we could get traffic from SO that might help
i would have thought android devs would flock to it
or maybe trying to appeal more to the SO audience is "preaching to the choir"

if I were a developer I'd let SO handle my Android FAQ

well SO is for dev questions but i would think a dev would want to be active on AE too... learn the issues people are having, gain credibility, etc.

well exactly
he could seed the site with his own Q&A
well at least I just bought the Desire HD
so if I have a problem I can ask it

5:37 PM
anyway, i'll look out for a "seeding" question in SO meta or AE meta

Q: Can we get the ability to ask questions as a Community User?

Ivo FlipseTLDR: I want to be able to ask questions that are attributed to a Community User, such that any high-rep user or moderator can seed his site with the questions that really should be on it! I think there's a problem across the Stack Exchange network with regards to the expected level of experti...

there you go
inspired me to a nice long rant!

I like the idea of seeding questions. I've done it a couple times but for the reason Ivo pointed out, I've refrained from asking the really easy questions.

well and it would really be silly as the no 8 on SU to ask how to format cells in Excel
but a lot of things are a mystery until you unravel it

Ivo, I know how you feel about "subjective questions" in general, but I've been thinking about this for a while and I think quality subjective questions may be useful to building community. Have your thoughts on the subject changed at all?

9:00 PM
depends what the question is on a case by case basis
good questions are good
and even app-recs can be good
given that they hold information

Agreed. I think that is the key point. The difference between a listing of apps and an app suggestion based on a thoughtful series of criteria.
Based on the discussion in the meta, I was under the impression that the prevailing sentiment was that there was no place for subjectivity.
So in order implement seeding questions from a "Community User" account, short of a change to the way SE sites run, would it be reasonable to create a normal User Account and share the login credentials amongst the mods and hi-rep users?
It would be a little bit of a pain because you'd have to use a separate browser or keep logging in and out, but it would only be used occasionally.

9:36 PM
yes that would probably be a solution
at least until I can think of something else ;)
but mostly I want to hear other people's opinions

10:03 PM
Would it be appropriate to cultivate a couple community wikis that act as guides or news repositories? Let me explain my thoughts on the "News Repositories" first...
A quick look at Google Insights shows that the term "samsung galaxy" is a rising search term related to Android. I know personally, about a month ago I was frequently checking for updates on the Galaxy Tab, specifically trying to find more details on specs and release dates. It was not easy sifting through all the junk to get to the relevant information, and it wouldn't be helpful to keep asking "When are they releasing the Galaxy Tab on Verizon."
Knowing this is a hot topic, having a community wiki might be a good way to keep updated information about the device in one place, and draw people in that are looking for answers about it. If done right, this could be very effective, but I can also see it being a mess as well.
As far as a guide is concerned, this seed question by Bryan is a good example of what I am talking about: android.stackexchange.com/questions/1184/how-do-i-root-my-phone
