To those who wondered where scaaahu is these days. I am just back from hospital. I had internal bleeding. My Hemoglobin dropped to 6, less than half of normal level. I was hospitalized 9 days, received numerous transfusions and finally back to 10 and then the doctor released me.
I used Academia SE as the home page, I forgot to logoff when I was sent to hospital by ambulance. That's why my login showed up when my wife used the computer.
@Wrzlprmft First, congrats! I wish I had the chance to vote, but I didn't. I saw some messages about SSimon, didn't pay too much attention. It's over now, right? Hope now we can go back to peace life.
@CaptainBohemian It can. The English is decent populated with academics, so unless it is purely a terminology of some field, it is probably on topic and answerable. Be sure to check the help center for whats on topic first, though.
@Wrzlprmft Really? I haven't seen much drama since 3/4 of the election. Perhaps I'm not looking in the right places.
@Wrzlprmft [ctrl+f: ssim] Ah, I see. So that is the appropriate talking venue. What a curious case. I'm afraid (based on past and previous behaviour) there's only one person who can help that user (themselves) and I hope that user 'recovers' soon from this 'stuff'.
@Discretelizard every time I want to ask a question in Englishsite, I rack my brain to think how to replace a sentence in the contexts of math and physics by a sentence without these professional jargons, because I am afraid people versed with English language, like linguists, can't understand me.
These days I am bombarded with a lot of linguistic jargons in English Language & usage, feeling quite headache.
I hope there is someone, like linguist, who can explain to me what those jargons mean.
@CaptainBohemian Well, you can always ask on Linguistics or ELU itself, provided that you can elaborate why a dictionary/encyclopædia did not help you.
How do I ask? I just post in ELU saying I am confused by xxx (an English jargon) because xxx (a post in ELU) and xxx (another post in ELU) don't use it consistently? Can I post this way? That sounds strange. I have never seen anybody posting this way.
@CaptainBohemian Not exactly. A fictive example: “Are adverbs a subset of adjectives? – My dictionary tells me […], which is inconclusive to me because […]. On this site, there are post like […] which I understand to claim that adverbs are adjectives, but there are also posts like […] which I understand to claim the opposite. In English linguistics, is there some general agreement whether adverbs are adjectives? If not, what are the arguments for or against this?”
@Wrzlprmft Sound like a decent way of asking a question. I'll try to see if I can compose a question like that way.
But I find people in ELU seem to be generally versed with those linguistic jargons. Sometime I am afraid they may tease how naive I am in asking that kind of question.
@CaptainBohemian one can only hope they won't and if they do that the mods will step in. If they do, then you have simply found yet another bad Internet community and you move on.
@Wrzlprmft Well, it is at least the venue that has been used as such ;)
@CaptainBohemian Yeah, just do what wurzepromft says. Also, terminology is sometimes more appropriate on the sites related on the field, e.g. you can ask what 'FPT' means on Computer Science.
I have asked a question. In this question, I provide details about what I mean and even a link to the content I am talking about. Some people put the question OnHold because they say It is not clear what you want. But when I asked what is unclear nobody answered or commented. It is very strange t...
I'll have to excuse myself if my question sounds rant-like. I am desperate.
Back in 2013, I started my 4 year (240 ECTS) bachelor course. The course I went to was ranked the best in the country (of 20) at that time. There was a schedule of what classes we would get in what year, what choice we h...
We have at least one old unclosed question asking to evaluate some commercial online services: Is Academia.edu useful?
This was cited in favour of questions going into the same direction: Is Peer.us useful? The latter question in turn has attracted a controversial answer originating from the oper...
A recent question that, in a sense, relied crucially on some details of the general Dutch educations system, got me thinking:
Wouldn't it be nice if this community knew more about the Dutch education system, not only on universities, but as a whole?
The advantage of a 'full cover' means that we...
