Q: Coming out as transgender in the mathematical community

RdmvI don't know if MO is the right place to ask such a question, but anyway it's my only hope to get an answer, and it's very important for me (not to say 'vital'); so let's try. I'm at this time a Ph.D. student, and I plan to defend in the spring 2018. I'm currently looking for a postdoc position ...

@MassimoOrtolano, interesting - thanks for your insight :)

@D.Hutchinson BTW the website you mentioned is notable enough to have separate Wikipedia article: Library Genesis.
On Wikipedia one can also read about some similar sites and related topics. For example, this is the site which was closed after a legal action from publishers: Library.nu
BTW it seems that this website is quite popular around here.

Can anyone point me toward a record of global oil consumption over the past 100 years, up to 2016 or 2017?

@MartinSleziak thanks :)

@Piomicron I doubt you’ll find help for this here. You may find help on Open Data.

let alone publishing companies ...
@MartinSleziak, I didn't think any country could ever go after an illegal Russian website, btw ...

I believe Ireland (Galway) and Ukraine (Kiev) are mentioned in the Wikipedia article.

"LibGen is reported to be registered in both Russia and Amsterdam, making it unclear which legislation applies" and "In late October 2015, a New York district court ordered LibGen to shut down and to suspend use of the domain name (libgen.org),[6] but the site is accessible through alternate domains.[7][8]

As of November 2017, the Library Genesis database contains more than 2.1 million books." @MartinSleziak

Oh, I see. I thought that you were talking about Library.nu - that is the one which was shut down.

ah, I see @MartinSleziak
@MartinSleziak, what did you think of that question on MO regarding the person needing to come out soon as transgender and wanting a support group to confide in anonymously?

I did not read that post.

ah, I see

But I noticed that it already got an answer (in fact the answer relatively quickly gained upvotes and Good Answer badge.)

yeah ...
that was nice
