@eykanal, I think I'll ask people on Chat someday rather than forming a question. I deleted it as I myself wasn't happy with it much.

Based on the recent meta thread, should I reword my question to have less personal details and be more general?

Q: How do I specify I do not want to perform a specific type of research on my CV?

CanageekA couple of years back I did some research at a company in a field (Computational chemistry) that I am no longer interested in perusing (To be blunt: I discovered that I dislike computational chemistry, and lack a certain numerical intuition needed to interpret the results). As I have this and a ...

@Canageek To be honest, I think your question is quite general, because you made the effort to talk in general terms, and to add in parenthesis the specific topic.

@CharlesMorisset I figured that would get me better answers as well, since then people who know CVs and academia but not chemistry are more likely to answer.

@Canageek I just added a comment on your question, but my problem is not so much with Chemistry :)
@Canageek Do you apply for grants? (that's what I understand from "funding application")

@CharlesMorisset In Canada & Chemistry you typically get a summer job with an 'NSERC URSA' grant from the goverment that pays 75% of your salary. I fill out a form describing myself (Past grants, awards, attach a transcript) then the prof fills out another form that I don't see unless they email it to be, describing the research and why they should get money to hire me.
@eykanal You know we have a very active LaTeX SX, right?

@Canageek In this case, you might want to add this piece of information in the question, because for me it sounded a bit weirded that the duties were added after the application.

@CharlesMorisset Is there a way to add a footnote with that information?

@Canageek Not that I know of, but you can add an EDIT: " ..." at the end of your question, that should do the trick

@CharlesMorisset Does what I added make sense?

@Canageek yes, thanks for the details :)
