Q: Identify parts of speech

PhoenixThree statements: It weighs about a pound. about = adjective or preposition?? 'about' here adds information to the noun 'pound'. Therefore I believe it should be an adjective. But in regular sentences, 'about' functions either as a preposition or an adverb. So, what is it here? ...

I am re-reading this Q&A after reading it for the first time yesterday
This is an extremely difficult question, IMHO
Araucaria wrote an answer back then, and was asked to provide further evidence and/or clarification but they declined.
Later Araucaria removed their own answer.
I know if I delve into CGEL I should be able to find a more convincing answer, but really don't have the time now. The accepted answer and the new answer both look fairly okay to me.

@EddieKal I am crying already.

6:25 AM
@DhanishthaGhosh Fret not. You will be able to edit posts more freely. And you can still suggest tag wiki edits.

6:42 AM
@EddieKal Aha...I almost forgot that one.
Oh by the way, if you are free, I had a query, for quite some time now.

@DhanishthaGhosh Sure go ahead

Why come you are the only one moderator who is active on ELL main site? No disrespect meant to the other mods. I am sure they did their fair share of work before you were elected and before I came here.
Glorfindel is mostly active on ELL Meta.
Is it because you are the newly elected ones and hence are supposed to do more work for certain time period?

In the fewest possible words: different people have different routines/schedules. So this is not unique to ELL in any way. On a lot of SE sites it is not uncommon to see only a few mods active on the main site while others are more laid back
The current SE mod team has six mods.
Two, myself included, are newly elected, as you know.
Some mods have been mods for a long time. They are no longer active most likely because they are busy with their real life commitments

@EddieKal Yes I know. Got the info from that users tab on home screen.

Up to until a year ago, two mods were most active on the site. One of them retired. The other one is sort of taking some time off sE

6:50 AM
@EddieKal Oh, I see. I thought it is kind of a policy.

Em., another current mod, is still actively providing answers. But even Em. has said they can be very busy from time to time

@EddieKal ColeenV. Yes I know. I saw the post few weeks back.

Yeah, so even back then, I am talking 2 years back, not all mods were active on the main site.

Oh, and here I thought Mods did the greatest amount of work. That can be pretty tough, and I agree, they have their own lives to deal with.
I believe the suggested edits are visible to many users above 2K rep, right?

What do you mean?

6:55 AM
No, I mean many users answer certain questions and just hang around here, now and then. But not many people are interested in seeing the suggested edits tab.
Not everyone likes editing jobs I guess

You mean the review queue?

Yup, that. I forget the name. Silly me

Yeah, not a lot of people are paying attention to the review queues. Both Glorfindel and I are big reviewers. I just enjoy doing it.
Glorfindel is an incredible network-wide reviewer

@EddieKal That's cool.
@EddieKal He has some great answers on Meta.SE
@EddieKal I hope I get the 2K rep soon so that I can contribute to the work load as well.
I hope both of you won't mind.

@DhanishthaGhosh I know. He has been around much longer than me. He is part of a network contributing group. He does a lot of great things I don't even know about. You should ask him if you are interested.
I appreciate it, but to be honest, not a lot of people are making edit suggestions nowadays.
So you have been pretty much the lone low-rep editor
Most edits now come from people who do not need approval to edit

7:02 AM
@EddieKal He doesn't hang around here I guess. And I fear just dropping by on some other chat windows. It may turn out pretty bad sometimes.
@EddieKal I have seen that. Void does many of them.

@DhanishthaGhosh Yeah, Void has been very helpful
So a lot of things have happened with the SE network, which drove people away in droves
That is why we lost a lot of very important contributors. The site used to be more prosperous

I wonder where does JamesK live. He is pretty much always active. He beats everyone in answering first.

@DhanishthaGhosh He is from the UK, as he has said. He is a consistently reliable contributor

@EddieKal Too many of them.
@EddieKal That's pretty awesome. But I sometimes low-key envy him. He sometimes beats me to the answers which I am capable of answering.
And then I sit huffing and puffing.

@DhanishthaGhosh You can still post yours. It doesn't hurt. This site is about learning and self-improvement. A lot of people come here and learn a whole lot. So it doesn't matter if someone else puts an answer there before you, you can still give it try.

7:10 AM
I feel like there is nothing more to say. Hence the reason I don't post repetitive answers.

@DhanishthaGhosh Hahaha, don't worry. There are a lot of unanswered questions out there for you.

Oh by the way, I have to go now. I have a lecture starting in five minutes.
Will catch up with you later.

Alrighty. Take care

7:29 AM
