Huh.
Yeah, vlogging is pretty pope.
I mean dope.
I usually write my blog posts / diary entries right here.
I've never seen pontificate outside of papal contexts.
I saw endoglossic first used a couple of days ago, and today there's a question here on ELL about that exact thing.
I stumbled on it randomly while looking at the etymology of glossary. Apparently glossa is in Greek what lingua is in Latin.
Wikipedia made me happy recently. I looked up cave art, as in prehistoric art (there's a special term for that, but I can't recall it presently), and among a bunch of images depicting large, impressive animals, there are a couple of paintings that are basically just hand traces, outlines. They were done presumably using some kind of tube thing the artist held in their hand, using which they blew the paint onto their other hand, which they'd pressed flat against the wall.
So I'm just imagining some guy doing this 30,000 years ago. He left his trace there, in some cave in South America. He was like "Yeah, I'm gonna leave my trace here, and other people will know that someone has been here.". He was just a little human, the same as us.
I'm happy for him, and that made me feel a connection with the rest of the humanity.

@userr2684291 Yep, that’s why we have bilingual but diglossic.

How many times will they make "Dracula"? I mean a tv-series on Dracula?
God!

@AIQ Well the running in Basketball is hardly cardio.
@AIQ Haha you should see Zorro

@M.A.R. That is just absolutely blasphemous. I am deeply wounded.

@AIQ Haha no, I meant burst running is a totally different kinda thing
And it requires different criteria.
Normal cardio is monotonous, it really depends on the overall condition of your body and how you're fueling. The faster you run, you'd also require stronger muscles and a leaner body, but the elderly can do a 30-min jolly walk and it'd still be cardio.

Q: Tidying up "slovenly" usages in question text

FumbleFingers Reinstate MonicaIt strikes me as "ironic" (whatever that means! :) that we often get questions asking how something should be "correctly" expressed, where the question itself gratuitously includes irrelevant "incorrect, non-standard" forms. For example, this recent question asks: Can I say I am gonna go Amaz...

16:51
When I write to the Queen, I always say I am going to go shopping on Amazon.
I see gonna used frequently in text it's completely unremarkable. For some reason the sentence in the question did strike me as slightly off because of the gonna. Why is that?
Maybe FF has got it right, and posts on SE should be a little more formal?
@snailcar How do you feel about stealing a song, but for a good cause, and with no profit made from it, all because it's kinda awkward to ask for permission?
Never mind.

@userr2684291 Tolerating informal writing in the Q&A parts of the site nudges people in the wrong direction, giving the impression that we’re all just hanging out shooting the shit instead of trying to compile a reference work that will be useful years from now. (in my very well-thought-out and never humble opinion ;))
TLDR: Yes, writing on SE should be on the more formal side but with short sentences and common words.

in my very well-thought-out and never humble opinion - wowowowowow I like this version of ColleenV (if there is more than one - which I think there is). This sounds arrogant (like reckless confidence) and I can't wait to use it. I just read this to myself 10 times, trying to get the feel of it. Trying to make it my own now!
21:57
@AIQ That’s the real me - most of the time I have to tone it down so people will still talk to me ;)
I used to be very shy a long long time ago and worked really hard on not being shy. Apparently there is no middle ground, it is either “painfully shy” or “arrogant know-it-all”
I do tell myself how awesome I am every so often. I assume other people are just too shy to say it to me directly because of how awesome I am. (Yes I’m joking! Mostly.)
22:15
@Eddie I saw that and I will hold it against you in a court of law
@AIQ That is very ColleenV
There's something very humble in pretending not to be so.
@M.A.R. Bah, you’ve found me out. I’m the most humblest.
I will not fall into a trap of infinitely looping that logic
It's almost 2 a.m. here
You’re on the ball today - I give up on trying to trap you
@NewMetaQuestion To overuse it is but one attitude we take
22:20
@ColleenVpartedways Nope, not gonna take the bait
I'm actually back from a very noisy birthday party
> The thing about me that's so impressive
Is how infrequently I mention all of my successes
sings I’m so humble
Still trying to comprehend what kind of a beast I was as a kid that could run and scream for four hours straight and not blink an eye
If we could harness that energy we wouldn’t need fossil fuels
Just children and sugar cubes
I was starting to share some of my profundities with the world again but I'm going to sleep now. Night

A person lives in peace and harmony when they don't reflect up on existence!
So I was talking to this 20 year old and they seem to be so much more matured than me.

@AIQ I keep saying that. There are reasons why people don't do it, however.
