@ColleenV Yay! Alive human being linking to something I can't watch.
15:27
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ Sorry I couldn’t find the Celine Dion version anywhere

3 hours later…
18:38
@ColleenV I'll check it out
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ it’s just a remake of a sappy song from 1970, and a bad attempt at humor. Celine sings the crap out of it tho
19:20
BTW, @Colleen, first part of clearing my conscience was posting something on meta.Chem, and the other part consists of contributing to the contributor guide.
19:32
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ Yay! Well not “yay your conscience is nagging you” but “yay someone else thinks the contributor guide is worthwhile”
@ColleenV It's all we can do, and we really should do it. I have figured "but most of them don't even read" is counterproductive and defeatist.
When you're assuming who your audience is, you can't aim for the lowest common denominator.

Maybe with more hath and ambiguous profoundness.
If nothing else, it gives us something detailed to link to when we try to explain something in a comment, and the voting helps give it some credibility
Writing up even the best posts takes few hours, I think I need to fully digest the existing eighteen answers first to find out how this can become a useful source.
@ColleenV Something that has always bothered me is the astonishingly low amount of meta comments on ELL. People very rarely (compared to other sites) seem to challenge or advocate for close votes, link to meta posts, explain policies etc.
I mean, don't get me wrong, high or even medium amounts of it is usually a headache
But it kinda sets the mindset in the right way.
Like the rare spice. Very delightful or even necessary in scarce amounts.
BTW, I rerealized how ridiculous those claims about that golden asteroid are.
WTH does everyone becoming a billionaire even mean
The fix is easy though. All it takes is a handful of eager moddy regulars with some renewed stamina.
We'll see what comes. It's summer but I'm not that free. Helping out in the pharmacy, reading novels and scientific stuff, arguing with random people over random topics on the internet
19:50
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ I agree it’s a problem. The most engagement we get is when someone is mad because their comments got deleted
I think though that English learners are pretty collaborative by nature and the confrontational people tend not to be as warmly welcomed as other places.
It creates an environment where people try to work around things instead of pushing back, which also causes issues
@ColleenV exactamundo
I mean, isn't that what ELLs are always asked to do?
'this is the rule, but it's kinda complicated because languages aren't supposed to run by a single rule, so just use "the"'
I have a sudden urge to enclose quotes in quotes.
The language barrier, and diverse nationalities make this stack unique in some ways.
"'"''"Global Warming."''"'"
That's a pro-climate change quoting a scientist who's been quoted by a denier and quoted again by another denier in sarcasm.
Lol, I’ll take “Overkill” for $100 Alex
