Idiom of the day: to be on one's beam-ends
> As day advanced the weather seem'd to abate,
And then the leak they reckon'd to reduce,
And keep the ship afloat, though three feet yet
Kept two hand and one chain-pump still in use.
The wind blew fresh again: as it grew late
A squall came on, and while some guns broke loose,
A gust—which all descriptive power transcends—
Laid with one blast the ship on her beam ends.

My free urinary cortisol (24-hour) is at the highest levels ever, despite escitalopram. I'll have to go to endocrinologists again..
Now I really have no idea why it is so high. SSRI drugs must have decreased it by now.

Frown.
But the upshot is that I feel elated often.
SSRI must have some effect on me
And I'm jogging like mad.
I've been doing an average of 10 km each day, against an average of 5 km each day, according to my Strava account.

Wow!
8 days into antidepressant, I did an 11-km jog and was preparing to stop and go home, but then I realized that I was not tired, and jogged for 3 kilometers more.
So it's an interesting effect.
I jogged for 15 kilometers yesterday

SSRIs take more time than that to build up in your bloodstream and start having their normal effect, I think. At least, that's what I was told.

But I think they can have side effects when you start or stop that don't take as long to show up.

From personal experience, I remember having those side effects almost right away.
Anonymous
I used to be on Sertraline.
Anonymous
Oops, maybe that shouldn't be capitalized.
Yes, an SSRI only starts working after 14 days
I've translated quite a lot of articles on antidepressants
And was offered to translate a book on the treatment of resistant depression once.

But you didn't take that particular job?
So it all might be just the placebo effect.
@snailboat They offered a pay that was less than a street sweeper gets

Frown part two: electric boogaloo.
But I still have the book in Russian on my bookshelf
what is "electric boogaloo"?
@snailboat The side effects that I had were as follows: abrupt awakening in the morning, with a feeling of "going mad".
I was afraid of this particular effect, and had a benzo handy.
But it only lasted for 2 days and was not severe enough to quench it with a benzo

There's an infamous movie titled Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo.

It's a dance.
The other side effect that I'm feeling is decreased libido.
I used to help myself every day, and now I can go without self-help for a week.

They messed with my appetite.
But strangely, several days ago my desire for women returned. I again notice every curve on the street.
@snailboat Did you want to puke? My friend said he wanted to puke while on an SSRI
I felt somewhat dry in the mouth the first week, but then it passed.
I feel like my fingers are typing faster on the SSRI

Nothing like severe nausea.
Anonymous
I also clenched my jaw somewhat.
Ah! Yes, sometimes they cause this. An antipsychotic is more likely to cause facial dyskinesia though
My friend is a psychiatrist in Moscow, and he is used to dealing with dyskinesia issues of his patients.
@snailboat Did it go up or down? My appettite did not change, but on high cortisol the appetite will always be high.
Anonymous
Down, I guess.

nods

I didn't lose weight, though. My eating became more habit-based.
Cheers! I'll go for a jog ))
It's 3 pm here

Enjoy your jog! It's 3 am here on the opposite side of the world.
Welcome back @snailboat

Science is great

Q: The usage of synonyms of "many things"

MrtThroughout the years when I read texts written in English, I came across word groups that basically mean many, additionally to one words having similar meaning such as several or numerous. However, because their usage and the tone of connotation and formality can change, I would like to ask how i...
